The torsion spring of one of my garage doors broke and the door was stuck in the closed position. I could not even get it open by pulling the emergency release. I called several places but finally settled on this one and hoped for the best. Well, here are the reasons I would call them again in the future: 1. An actual knowledgeable person at the site answers your call. Not just an answering service who schedules a house visit but cannot give one a firm estimate on the phone. 2. A company that has an actual listed local physical location. 3. A company that is listed as an authorized installer by the manufacturer. 4. Very good customer reviews. 5. A detailed quote that enumerated the cost of each part should it have to be replaced. 6. I was texted the ETA of the repair person along with his photo. 7. ETA and cost was as quoted. 8. The repair person did not try to upsale me more than what was need to do the repair. There is a certain amount of panic that sets in when the power goes out and your car is trapped in the garage. Some of you might be thinking, "Why not just disengage your garage door opener from the door, and open the damn thing manually?" And that's a great idea. However, it requires that the original installation was done properly. In my case... it was not. Thus the panic. My wife said that I would never be able to get the garage door fixed within the day, especially since we were in the midst of a city wide power outage. Thanks to the Yelp App and the mobile internet, I was able to find A2DS. Indeed, they were scheduling service calls a few days out, but when I explained my predicament, they were able to squeeze me in with an emergency visit within a few hours! The door did not get fixed that day, but the technician was able to work enough magic so I could free my car from its tomb. Then we were able to schedule a follow up visit to actually get the thing fixed. I wasn't even charged for the call. My heroes! As luck would have it, on my long list of to do items, was installing a new opener for the second garage door. So I was able to take care of that as well on the follow up appointment. The A2DS installation crew came as expected, made short work of the project, asked for my input when needed, and were able to complete the job for less than the originally estimated price! Now I have two working, modern, garage doors. Both are programmed into each opener, and I have new openers for each car. Plus there is a spiff new keypad on the side of the house, so I can open and close the doors manually. This all makes me more excited and happy than I had ever imagined! Oh yeah. There was one teeny tiny problem with the button inside the garage to open the old door. But after one quick call, and the problem was taken care of the following day. I was disappointed by my recent sales visit for a new garage door. I had hired this company last year to replace the automatic garage door opener and they arrived in a timely manner and did the work well. So when my garage door became completely dislocated from its metal hinges, I called this company back to repair it. My three main concerns are that: 1st, he said we couldn't repair it and would need to install/buy a new door. That was fine by us and we started discussing price/color etc. Everything was going well until, I asked him when he would be able to come back to install the door. At that point he informed me that due to Covid there were manufacturer delays that would mean that a garage door wouldn't be available for install until at least the end of December (4 months!). I couldn't wait that long and said thank you but I think I will have to try to call a few other companies instead. At which point he started going on and on about how no other companies in the area would have doors either and I shouldn't even bother calling. It seemed odd to me especially because, my garage door is a run-of-the-mill white 16' x 8' door. So, I thanked him again but said I will just call a few places and get back to him. He then started talking about how he would have to charge me a service fee unless I signed with him that day. This was never mentioned to me on the phone when I made the appointment. None of the other 6 companies that I have contacted since to give me a quote, have charged me a 'service fee' for not purchasing through them. I flat out refused to pay him and he left. 2nd, all 6 companies that I did contact had my door in stock and all told me they could install next week, with one company saying they could install it the next day. 3rd, he wasn't wearing a mask and then asked to come into my home to discuss the garage door. read more

Payment: Cash, check and credit cards. We used this company previously to install a commercial door on the pole barn at our old house. I knew going into it that I would likely use them again, but got two other estimates for reference. Making the estimate appointment was a breeze. Chris came out and assessed the scope of work, he was courteous and knowledgeable. I received the estimate via email a few days after Chris came out. The estimate was fair and I chose Ann Arbor Door Systems to do the work. When I started all this I wanted plain doors... no windows, no frills. Then I saw the Hass Door brochure Chris gave me and the Hass website. I think I emailed Chris 5 times with changes to the estimate. I changed my color choice twice, style choice once, added windows and finally added carriage door hardware. Cause you don't think you need it and then you see it and it just looks so incredibly good that you have to have it. Hahaha. I must have drove the poor guy crazy but he never batted an eye. I should mention that Hass Door website has a feature called Hass Create. It allows you to upload a picture of your garage doors and experiment with style, color, and accessories. I found this tremendously helpful. It should be noted that I was converting 2- 8x7 doors to 1-18x7 door. I was having a hard time finding a contractor that I liked, and Ann Arbor Door Systems recommended Stanford Enterprises, whom I ended up hiring to do the conversion of the opening. Gyll Stanford was outstanding and you can see my full review of his work on his yelp page. Gyll coordinated his work and the install of the doors with Ann Arbor Door Systems. After Gyll finished his part, Ann Arbor Door came out to install the doors. There was no wait time between contractors. The installers arrived on time and were very nice. The garage door install took two days, and the end result is excellent. At the end of the job I did notice that the window inserts did not match, and one of the door panels was dented. The installers took note of it, replacements were ordered and everything was corrected in record time. Overall, and excellent experience. I used these guys when I managed a Firestone Store due to their prompt service and quality work. 10 years ago I had a problem with my home garage door and called them. The service tech arrived and bluntly stated that my garage door needed to be replaced. Because of their proven expertise, I immediately accepted and they replaced the door at a reasonable price. It was a much better and insulated door, I realized instantly how right he was. Fast forward to late yesterday afternoon, I heard a spring break. I called them and they apologized that they could not come out until 10:00 this next morning. I, however, was thrilled. The tech saw the broken spring and insisted on replacing both, of course I thought as they are both the same age. I asked him to look into the bottom rollers and he insisted on replacing both as well as the rusted cables. The total bill was $286, an amount I found more than fair especially as he spent an hour on the job and charged only $20 in labor with no travel charge. If you want a flashy, detailed, warm and fuzzy sales presentation please do not call these guys, that just ain't them. Choosing this company based on reputation and not on price immediately paid off. The garage door to our home was already deteriorating when we rented it a year ago. Fortunately, our landlord finally gave-in and agreed the door was a safety risk and authorized us to move forward acquiring quotes from five local companies and permitting us to deduct the installation cost from the next month's rent. Though the Ann Arbor Door Systems quote wasn't the lowest, their online reputation via ratings sites like this simplified our decision. Further, there was no company during the quote process that was more thorough with respect to ensuring our awareness of precisely what decisions we needed to make and what they were promising prior to moving forward. For example, no other company took the time during their quote visit / inspection to review color choices to ensure a color match assuming we decided on their company. Though we were able to utilize the existing door opener system, all else was replaced including the track system. But at the end of the installation, a clear problem was at hand: there was a gap large enough for rodents, etc. to pass through on the right-hand side of the door bottom that wasn't there with our previous door. In other words, there was a concrete slope nobody noticed prior to installation. As the installers weren't decision-makers, the best they could offer once the work was complete was to recommend we look into a door seal and that they would advise their management of this situation. The next day we received a management follow-up call where we scheduled the original inspector / quote person (a manager) for a post-install follow-up in a couple of days. Upon his visit, he offered to install a retrofitting door seal himself at no charge. We gratefully accepted and could not be more pleased with the result. In the end, he acknowledged that such a gap would typically have been noticed prior to an original quote where the door seal solution would have likely been an additional cost. But because he did not notice that potential gap problem upon the initial quote inspection (most likely because the old door had simply settled into place because it was broken, thus sealing the gap on its own), he accepted that responsibility without question. The bottom line: expertise, thoroughly informs their customers, and stands behind their work. In my opinion, this company certainly earned the slightly higher price we paid by choosing them. read more

I'd been a long time customer of theirs, but after this last experience, I am no longer. Ten years ago, they installed a Marantec garage door opener. It worked flawlessly. The only problem was the cotton cord to the emergency release broke off. The cord holding mechanism did not allow for easy replacement, but clearly could have been done. Instead the company told me I would need a entire new mechanism with the same crummy cotton cord and the cost would be over 250 dollars!!!! No effort was made to see how the cord could be replaced with nylon or any other type of longer lasting cord. No, no no no, you either bought the entire mechanism at the inflated price or nothing. But you could buy a new Liftmaster opener for $560.00! And no, we don't carry Marantec anymore and no we don't carry Genie; we just carry Liftmaster. So, my choice was to pay almost half the cost of a new opener just for a cord or buy the Liftmaster. In hindsight, I should have called another company right then and there, but I purchased the Liftmaster which lacks several really nice features of Marantec and the Marantec opener unnecessarily was tossed into the waste stream because a company decided it was more important to rip you off than be ethical and more environmentally friendly. I have only nice things to say about Ann Arbor Door. Our garage door was acting wonky for a few days, and then just quit while the cars were parked in there. My husband and I managed to force the door up and the cars out onto the driveway, but something was seriously wrong, as the door was hanging incorrectly and coming away from the tracks. We called a couple door repair places - one never picked up, even though they had Saturday hours, and the other place USED to service Ypsilanti (because we've used them in the past) but don't any longer. So, I called Ann Arbor Door, and while they couldn't come out on the weekend, they promised to be there between 8:30 and 9:30 on Monday. They got here during the one-hour period they said they would, fixed the door (broken spring, which in turn messed up the cables) in less than 40 minutes and charged me less than $100. It seems a couple of chipmunks had eaten through a corner of the molding and I didn't want any unneeded friends in the garage this winter. If I could give this company a 1/2 star I would. I had an issue with my Genie garage door not opening. I called the company and had the technician come out to "diagnose" the problem the next day. The technician just took a quick look at the door opener and said that the circuit board was bad and said that I should replace the whole opener for $450 dollars. He did no troubleshooting or anything. I said that I was not interested in replacing the opener, I just want my current opener fixed. He refused to fix the opener because he said that he doesn't touch Genie openers and then charged me $65 for stopping by. After the tech left, I looked at the troubleshooting section of my Genie manual. It said that the chain may be too tight or loose. I tightened up the chain and wammo, the opener started working. I share a driveway with my neighbors so when he parked in the driveway I explained the situation to him and asked him to park on the street -- about 30 feet from where the truck was parked in the driveway. He gave me an extraordinary amount of attitude for this simple request, even though he doesn't know anything about my relationship with my neighbors or why I might need to keep my driveway clear. Calling in yesterday it sounded like the same guy I had install my double door 20 years ago. The main spring which counter weights the door broke. so it lasted 20 years - pretty good. Very helpful over the phone - would have sold me a main spring if I'd wanted to install myself but car was stuck in garage so I couldn't go get it. His man came out this morning 9 AM and fixed it quickly and charged only a modest amount which included replacing a shorted wire after troubleshooting why sometimes the door stopped as soon as it started. Ann Arbor Door replaced my garage door a couple of weeks ago. Everything about the process went smoothly. The day after I called, a sales rep came out and walked me through the options for replacement. I greatly appreciated the rep's honesty in saying that the opener was fine and that just the door, tracks and spring needed replacement. The installer arrived on time and did a great job, including wiping off his finger prints as he wrapped up. The door appears to be more solid than my previous door even though it is their basic model. I would recommend shoppers take a close look at sales materials (and possibly other garage doors in your neighborhood or in Ann Arbor Door's show room) as the some of the more basic doors like mine come with a substantial ~2 inch black retainer/weather stripping on the bottom edge of the door, including on white doors. I'm sure this makes for better protection from the elements, but the appearance was a big change vs my old door. Ann Arbor Door is so keen on customer satisfaction, they helped me resolve the appearance issue. I am a very happy customer! read more
