While traveling in northern Kentucky, he stumbled upon one of these places, The Farmstand Market & Cafe. Farmstand offers comfort food with a farm-to-table focus served in a cozy space with a bar and attached market. We started with the Goetta Hanky Panky Dip. This was made with cheesy goetta, bagel chips, pumpernickel bread, and light rye served in a cast iron skillet. The dip had a good sausage flavor with salt and some light spice while being cheesy, creamy, and full of flavor. The bagel chips were very crispy but were not served warm. The pumpernickel and rye were dry. Each complimented the dip, adding texture to the bite. My wife had the Reuben Sandwich. This sandwich came with sliced corned beef, homemade Thousand Island, pickled pig sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on light rye with bacon ranch pasta salad. The pasta salad was cooked spot on while also being creamy. The bacon added crunch and saltiness to the salad. The rye had a great toast, and the Thousand Island was tangy and creamy. The pastrami was dry but had a good salty flavor. The sauerkraut was crunchy and had a good sour flavor cutting through the salty meat and the sweet dressing. The cheese was gooey and nutty and added flavor to each bite. I sampled the French dip sandwich and Mulligatawny soup. This was prepared with a sliced top round with provolone on a French roll. The soup was prepared with rice, chicken, carrots, onions, celery, lentils and spices. The chicken was very tender, the rice was cooked well, and the vegetables added texture to the rice. The soup was flavorful, had a wonderful aroma, and had a good salt content. The top round was thin and offered good flavor and chew. The roll was fresh and had a good chew paired with the ooey and gooey cheese with an excellent buttery flavor. The au jus had good flavor but was slightly salty, which overpowered it. Farmstand offers grilled cheeses, hot sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers, soups and main entrees. They also serve beer and have a full bar. The servers were pleasant and knowledgeable. The Fat Man says that The Farmstand Market & Cafe is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

It was easy to find seating around 6 p.m. on a weekend, and the restaurant wasn't too busy. The margaritas are decorated really cute. I got a torta over lettuce (since I'm GF) and specifically asked for it without meat, adding beans instead. For some reason, getting it over lettuce instead of having a tortilla costs an extra $2, which is a crazy upcharge because I would expect it to be cheaper. Even worse, the beans had meat in them. Since I specifically asked for no meat, they should have told me that the beans contained meat and suggested another option. The service was also disorganized. Three different waiters came over asking for our drink order, which was weird, and then it took a really long time to actually get our drinks because of whatever was going on.

I finally decided on the Cinnamon Roll, Oreo, Elvis (banana, peanut butter, bacon), PB&J, Fruity Pebbles, and Salted Caramel Macchiato. They actually top the doughnuts right in front of you - which is fun to watch, and validates the freshness. Each doughnut base is the same traditional, cake doughnut, and I was thrilled with how moist and flavorful they were. My favorite by far was PB&J - and my husband's was the Elvis. This location is okay, but with all the pizza spots in Anderson Township, I hate to say but this is not among the best. The service is great, the atmosphere is nice, but the food could be better. I went with my work crew on a Thursday for lunch. It wasn't busy at all and there was plenty of seating. We sat ourselves and started perusing the menu. The menu is pretty big with all the usual pub grub favorites. Not a huge drink menu but they have a decent selection of beer, hard seltzers, and some wines. We started with a few appetizers; mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms, and fried pickles. We didn't wait too long before they were ready. Overall, they weren't horrible, but definitely too much breading. So much that it was tough sometimes to taste anything BUT breading. The mushrooms were probably the best though. Then we ordered a couple large traditional pizzas, one buffalo chicken and one veggie. Again, we didn't wait long until they came out. Both were good but I can't say they were great. It was the kind of pizza that if you see it at a party you MIGHT have a slice or two before moving on to something else and not going back for more. On the whole, this spot is okay, but if given the choice, I hate to say it due to the great service, this would not be one of my top choices. When we asked how long on the next cheese pizza, the server shrugged his shoulders and just replied he didn't know. Once you are finished with your plate, there wasn't a location to place your used plates. There were tables with 4 people and a stack of plates at least 5-10 high. Spills around the soft drink area were not being cleaned up. We noticed several people almost slip. I do not know who trained the staff but they definitely needed more training and someone keeping an eye on them.
