I'm not sure why this place isn't 5 star all around. The chicken was literally the best chicken I've ever had. The lamb lollipops were outstanding - drinks and service were fantastic. Highly recommend. Ambiance was amazing! read more

This is one of the only "nicer" ambiance cocktail bars on West 6th Street, so it stands out amongst other establishments in the area. The basement location feels exclusive and the interior creates a moody and upscale vibe, but be sure to make a reservation if you visit with a group on a weekend evening. On my most recent visit on Friday evening, the place was packed with a birthday party. It was difficult to get to the bar to get a drink, and the bartenders were noticably stressed with the amount of business. They were still friendly however, and made delicious cocktails. I ordered the Hellfire, their version of a margarita, which was delicious, but definitely overpriced for the amount of beverage I received. Devil May Care is a cool spot to check out, but I personally don't feel the need to return. read more

Walked about two miles checking out places to visit in Austin and finally found this welcoming gem. Sat at the bar and had the fortune to have Chris as our bartender. New place downtown, classy and hedonistic at the same time. Now let's talk ambiance, food and drinks. Ambiance : first things first - there are no proper tables to eat a meals at, its lounge style seating but that worked well for us too cause we shared everything was tapas style. Next, I'd break it into two sections, it has a casual bar atmosphere but also a chic dark sexy vibe. The DJ plays bomb music! Food : great tapas style Mediterranean blends. The hangar steak shawarma interpretation is legit. Nothing like a shawarma but super delish! Drinks : for Austin, the cocktails here are a good find! The waitresses know what they're doing, they can customise too (only if you ask nicely ) After midnight this place turns into a really cool underground lounge with epic music and "I'm too sexy for you" crowd. A different and must checkout nook in Austin. read more

Love. This. Place. I missed their vibe so much that I decided to order a date night package with my man to celebrate our anniversary. We tried to re-create their vibe on our "coronacation" so we put on Spotify and played their playlist because I was obsessed with the music when I was there. The beautiful wooden box came with the cute date night activity cards and some divine smelling incense to enhance the evening. Literally had everything we needed for our special night from logo'd matches to light up the incense to a lovely personal handwritten note. We ordered the DMC platter online through their website & had it delivered. It came pretty fast, the pita was still warm! The platter consisted of their delicious pita bread (honestly... the best pita bread I've ever had), couscous, hummus, veggies, and some accoutrements. To top off our staycation we ordered a couple bottles (didn't want the party to end!) .... one was Château Musar, it was a red Lebanese wine that's perfectly balanced for this meal. And a bottle of PJ champagne (YUMMM). This box hit the spot! Thank you DMC for making this night special for us! P.S. Profits help out the staff that's been displaced during this pandemic. read more

On a visit to Austin last week for work, one of my colleagues wanted to check out Devil May Care for happy hour after a friend of hers recommended it. We got there around 5pm on a Thursday, and it was pretty empty. While they do offer happy hour Wednesday through Friday from 5 to 6 (half off specialty cocktails, select spirits, and wines), it seemed like a late night place, not so much a place for happy hour. According to their website, they enforce an "upscale Austin dress code," so I guess I'm lucky they let me in in my summer in December outfit! And while the outside patio was nice, we had a harder time getting service out there than may have been possible inside. My cocktail was good, but the whole bar wasn't my vibe. With so many great, chill bars in Austin, Devil May Care was a little fussy for me, but if you're into more of a speakeasy/dark/slightly clubby vibe, it might be your jam! read more

Fairly conflicted here, lot's of ups and downs all around... - Food was good, but we found a bone in it. Could've easily chipped a tooth, but thankfully I caught it before I bit down. Staff was kind and agreed to take it off of our bill. - The drinks were good, but the pours were weak. I ordered two martinis and each was a little over half-full. - The vibe is certainly unique. It's got a sort of upscale "gentleman's club" vibe (if you catch my drift). Very Vegas/Miami. The waitresses are mostly all women in high heels and short skirts. - The crowd is an interesting mix. Mostly girls looking to go out clubbing on West 6th after dinner. Then a few regular diners. A couple men dining with a "lady of the evening". The restaurant itself turns into a club late night, which is cool, but also adds to the party vibe of the entire restaurant! Certainly fun, but definitely not everyone's cup of tea. I'd probably come back just to do appetizers/small plates and drinks before a night out. I wouldn't come back for a casual or formal sit-down style dinner or family setting. read more

Where do I start with this place? It's the epitome of trendiness while remaining surprisingly approachable. When you walk in you feel like you're in a bigger city than Austin. It's as if you found a secret underground spot that you're not sure you want to tell people about because, unless you know about it, you would walk right by. But that's obviously a massive part of the appeal. As far as the experience itself? It's a little bit odd because you think it's just going to be a bar/lounge with nice cocktails and beautiful staff, however their menu is both extensive and incredible. I'm somewhat of a Mediterranean food connoisseur and I have to say DMC isn't topped by anyone else in Austin. I basically had to try everything but the real highlights were the octopus, potatoes, ribs, and steak. Everything was cooked well, 100% seasoned properly, which is the part most restaurants miss, AND the presentation is something you'd expect on Chef's Table. I'm not a huge cocktail guy so I just ordered an off-menu Mezcal Mule, but damn do they do a good job with their execution. To be honest though, the MAIN draw to this place is the vibe. Although not easy, anyone can cook a decent meal and pour a decent drink, by the energy and vibe is always on point! Although I don't want it to start getting too crowded, make sure Devil May Care is on your list of places to try in Austin! read more

This is a cute bar - we went when it was extremely crowded and had to snake out way through the crowd but were somehow still able to find seats and chill for a bit. I popped in here while having a girls' night this week. It was Wednesday, and they had a jazz band playing that night. We ordered the whipped ricotta and goat cheese dip, the patatas bravas, and the lamb pita paninis. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the whipped ricotta dip, but the lamb pita paninis were a really close second. We enjoyed the music, but were far enough away to chit chat. This place definitely has a swanky, jazz bar kind of vibe. They were out of a few of the wines we wanted, but quickly provided suggestions for substitutes on those. The food was really the highlight here for me - it was impeccable. read more

This place is a hidden gem for folks that desire that classy lounge experience. This ambience is so much harder to find with the rest of casual Austin. You actually get good service here and the drinks are nice and bold. The happy hour is one of the best value especially if you're planning on impressing some guests or having a birthday. I recommend to hop on their reservation list for a table during happy hour from Thursday thru Saturday, 5-6:30 (as verified by the business website) which is perfect way to start and hype up for the night. Our group was sold on the the platter where the caviar was divine, lobster succulent, oysters so fresh clean and crab beautifully sweet. Our waitress, Jannie, was very attentive, very professional. I particularly took note of her level of consideration of me as a guest when she asked me if I didn't like my drink, even though I'm simply just slow drinker while I eat. I've worked in plenty of service industry to know this is good training and alertness. Would definitely return and keep this on my rotating list of classy bars on West I'll frequent. read more

Trendy spot on West 6th. We went during happy hour, so they were doing half off of all drinks. And the drinks were really good. I got the Hellfire, which was basically a spicy margarita, and my girlfriend got the De España, their variation on a martini. We also split the deviled eggs and hummus to start. I wasn't a huge fan of the deviled eggs; I didn't feel like the strong beet flavor worked well. But the hummus was great, and the grilled pita that it came with was fantastic. We also split the little gem salad, which was tasty but on the smaller side. For our main, we split the lamb shank. The shank itself was delicious and fall-off-the-bone tender. The sides that it came with were alright, but nothing too special. The flavor of the baba ghanoush was a bit funky, in my opinion. I did enjoy the pickled vegetables though. For dessert, we split the baklava. It came with a side of turkish coffee affogato, which was a nice touch, and paired well with the baklava. And the baklava itself was pretty tasty, but it started to crumble after a couple bites. The ambiance was nice, but it's a better choice for happy hour/hanging out with friends than it is for a date. They don't have real tables, only little tables with stools, which are a bit awkward to eat off of plates on. They also have bar seating. However, the service was awesome, which was a huge plus. Good music too. read more

I would like to give a 5 star rating for the food, drinks, and the ambiance but unfortunately, tonight's service was one of those nights. My friend made a reservation for Happy Hour and we were excited. As it turns out, the post I saw on Austin.Bucketlist on IG regarding HH --all the info was false. Our waitress (the asian waitress who is tall with long hair), who was rude and emotionally unintelligent, got defensive said, "that post was not from us," with an extreme negative tonality and attitude. She could've just responded, "unfortunately, our HH ended and we're sorry about the misinformation. We didn't post those. Is there anything we can do for you?" Or something nice? Overall, all waitresses are pretty young and not property trained--it wasn't the misinformation. It was how unprofessional and condescending she was to me. Ironically, there was another waitress who the rude waitress was training tonight, and she was phenomenal. She was more friendly and professional than the trainer?! I highly recommend you to properly train your young staff with integrity, friendliness, and optimism. I wanted a second drink but I just felt so disrespected, especially after I spent $50 on one drink and appetizer with that kind of unacceptable service. Just because of one incident of incompetency and lack of customer service, I refuse to go back there for awhile until I hear an apology from a staff member. read more

I came into Devil May Care just before it temporarily closed, and it was such a fun time! I can't remember who our host was, but she was really friendly, helpful, and bubbly. It had only been a few months since she started working, but she knew the menu like the back of her hand. The way she described items made my friend and I want to get everything. I initially found the lounge on Instagram, and it's as aesthetic online as it is in person. The vibe and atmosphere is chill and comfortable, and the decor is quite fitting of the chic name. From start to finish, our experience was great. Everyone was friendly, and hostesses even stopped to help take a photo for my friend and me. We ordered two desserts and two cocktails. The only reason why I give this place -1 stars is because their cocktails are not that memorable. I keep expecting NYC-level drinks, but I have yet to find a place in Austin that serves that kind of complexity and balance in a drink. Our desserts were awesome. The baklava dessert was quite light, and the vanilla ice cream and Turkish coffee combo was delightful. Our favorite pick of the night (and one I still dream of) was the grape panda cotta. It was truly one of the best desserts I've ever had, but I might just be a sucker for panna cotta. For such a small glass, it packed a ton of flavors and tartness. This is a great place to chill and hang out in. I would take friends again, and I highly recommend ordering the grape panna cotta. You can make dessert time any time of the day! read more

One of the sexiest spots in Austin!! From the moment we walked downstairs I had a feeling this was going to be interesting, but once we got inside and we took in the decor, I knew for a fact that we were going to be in for a treat and we were! The hostess Kiki greeted us and I was already in love with her as we had prior conversations regarding my reservation and she was very accommodating. After we were shown to our table, we were greeted by Reagan followed by Leto and they made sure our evening was complete. My husband and I are huge fans of Ten Ten and were elated to discover that they were a part of the same group and Leto explained their program where you pay x amount of dollars in advance and you get additional money to dine on; the more you pay, the more free money you get. For instance, if you prepay for $250 worth of food/drinks, they give you an additional $50. If you prepay $500 for food/drinks, you get an additional $125 added and the best part is that if you do not spend it all in one night, it can be used later and at any of the restaurants in their group! Genius! Now, to the good part....what you should order: HELLFIRE---the only way to get the party started. By the time I was on my 4th, the Dj had kicked in and it was on! Chilled prawns Devil's eggs House hummus Labneh flatbread Lamb & beef kafta Octopus Grilled prawns Brussels sprouts Corn panisse fritters Every single dish was to die for, except my peeps felt the lamb and beef kafta was dry and a little too gamey. I strongly suggest that you make a reservation as they are limited and fill up fast. We will definitely be going back! read more

I like how when we showed up to this spot they wouldn't let us in cuz the dudes in our group were wearing shorts. I will preface this review by saying I already absolutely LOVE this place - it is one of the best nightlife spots in Austin. Incredible cocktails, top-notch Happy Hour specials and an unrivalled Dinner menu. Not to mention excellent service. Food-wise, it's simply the best quality you would expect from a top restaurant, and always a fun atmosphere. Now they have taken it up a notch offering a "Sunday Funday" party brunch! A friend & I went this past weekend and the food is just what you want for brunch - savory, tasty and soooooo so good. The Wild Mushroom Croque Madame was the real standout, a must. The Tortilla Española was also delicious and for something sweet you can't go wrong with the Pain Perdu french toast - it's filled with a spicy, nutella concoction that's everything you ever wanted but didn't know you needed. Plus, the best Espresso Martini you will ever have!! read more

I only wish that I had taken photos of the food and drinks because WOW. My boyfriend and I decided to try Devil May Care after a good friend told us about how "vibey" the restaurant is. From the moment you walk down the brick steps through the doors, you're transformed into what feels like an upscale lounge. The pinks, purples and tones of reds illuminate the space. The seating is well spaced out with fancy velvet chairs, sofas and might I add, very COVID-friendly. I'd highly suggest going during their 2 hour happy hour (between 5-7). This gives you the chance to order more items and do a combination of HH menu and regular menu. I preface this by saying, literally EVERY ITEM was just as good as the last. From happy hour the must haves: 1. deviled beet eggs -- holy moly! Just be sure to scoop up those little crunchy things with each bite. 2. The lobster tail with this magical brown butter sauce. I'm not kidding when I say I could've eaten 3 of those by myself. Be sure to scoop some of the rice-garlic looking filling out from the shell. It only made each bite even better. Dare I say, the best lobster tail I have ever had (and I'm from the East Coast originally). 3. Flatbread thing with apricot jam with pickled onions -- this was perfect for sharing and generously topped with that delicious spread. 4. Half dozen oysters: my boyfriend said they were great. So delicious and came perfectly dressed that they were easy to shoot right back. From regular menu: 1. Grilled Octopus: admittedly, this was my boyfriend's pick and I was skeptical. However, I willingly tried a piece and used the orange sauce. Pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this. 2. Brussel sprouts: large portion and grilled deliciously! The sauce they cook these in was super tasty. Lastly, the service was impeccable. The waitstaff came by the right amount and made sure we were enjoying the food and drinks. Top the entire experience off with our Waitress, Letto, bringing us 1 piece of her favorite menu item, the corn fritters. This was easily the best corn fritter I've had in my life. Kid you not. Her service particularly was impressive and her ability to speak to all menu and drink items with ease & credibility really stood out. Not only was the wait staff attentive, friendly and menu knowledgeable. The staff who works here are quite literally some of the most physically attractive people I have seen in awhile. Good new cocktail lounge downtown in the old Bess Bistro spot. The subterranean spot works a lot better for this Moroccan-style lounge than it did trying to be a sunny fun brunch spot, ya know? Though I appreciate what they are trying to do with the low tables, couches, and pillows, I kind of wish we'd sat at the bar. The waitress was nice but totally spaced on one of our drinks and didn't make it back to get our last order before happy hour ended. And the other staff seemed a little aloof--I didn't see one male staff member the whole time, so maybe I am not the intended clientele... Regardless, I will come back: earlier next time and sit at the bar cause HH is from 4:30 to 6:30 and is half off all cocktails and bottles of wine. Their wines range from $45 to $2,500. I would love to have a reason to drink a $700 bottle of Dom for half off someday...but last night was not the night, and we stuck to the cocktails. The best drinks we had was the Smoke and Mirrors, then the Rose Fizz...the drinks we didn't like as much were the Old Fashioned, which seemed to lack the mix of flavors from the bitters and from the cherry which was left out. It just tasted like a slightly sweetened glass of whiskey. The other drink not for us was the De Espana, a Spanish-influenced take on a martini which included Manzanilla Sherry and vermouth-- I thought this would be an interesting take, but the mixture just tasted like watered down cough-syrup. Live and learn. I do want to come back and try the food--they have an interesting mix of Mediterranean fare: seafood, shwarma, pita, olives, etc. but as another reviewer mentioned, it's hard to eat at such a low lounge table. Another reason to sit at the bar. read more

This place was really bad. Thought it would be a great place to take friends from NYC but was seriously embarrassed by the quality. The hostess was snobby but our server was actually really nice and personable. The drinks were terrible though. We ordered two Rose Fizzes, Smoke and Mirrors and the Aperitif. The Rose Fizz was absurdly heavy-handed on the rose water. Don't get me wrong - we love rose water - but this was like drinking straight perfume. The server said the bartender was new and seemed to expect that the drinks were not right when she saw we didn't drink them. The Smoke and Mirrors was ok, but it was unbalanced and our guest only drank half. The Aperitif was mostly all vermouth. We had to order a whole other round of drinks because the first was so bad. I won't go into painful detail, but it didn't get better. In particular, the Azafran was seriously nauseating. Let me just say that you should never make a drink with artificially sweetened red bell pepper liquor. The food was edible but nothing exciting at all. Plain hummus, fried cheese, Brussels sprouts--I expected so much more from this place. $150 down the drain but more importantly it was so embarrassing to have our friends think that this is what Austin has to offer. read more
