The menu offers a great variety of dogs, burgers and shakes, and it's obvious this is a popular spot around DePaul U! I ordered a normal Chicago dog (no peppers) and my fiancé ordered the Wisconsin braut. Service was quick, inside was clean and colorful, and my dog was pretty tasty! My only complaint would be that by the time I got my dog, the toppings has caused the bun to become soggy, and both the bun and dog were cold. It's a Chicago hotdog joint. The line is ever present but moves along at a good clip. I had the Chicago Dawg and the Clucker Sandwich. Skip the sandwiches and stay with the dawgs. My Chicago Dawg was classically done up and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Clucker Chicken Sandwich with slaw was remarkably tasteless. I also had a Chocolate and strawberry shake - big selection for shakes... I dug the shake. It came with an extra wide straw... nice touch. I did not sample the namesake hot dawgs, however, what I had was fabulous! I ordered the clucker sandwich and bag o' fries. The sandwich was divine! The chicken was super tender and juicy with a perfectly crunchy exterior. The slaw was very mild and the Chicago pickles added a nice briny crunch. The pretzel bun was fresh and stood up nicely to the chicken. The fries were French fried perfection! Brown crispy exterior with a nice light fluffy interior. Service was friendly and efficient. Ok, so first when in Chicago you have to try many hot dog places. Now that I live in Texas I always have to have a Chicago style hot dog when I am back. Before I describe the food, let me describe the place. This place is in the South Loop Area, its a hole in the wall place that is worth the trip, although I also think spending some time in the South Loop area is a good idea too. I don't know if the owner is a veteran, but as a Marine I had to try Devil Dawgs! I ordered the Chicago Style Hot Dog, of course, as well as a Chili Cheese dog. The Chili Cheese dog was fine, the chili was ok and the cheese was not melted but sprinkled on top. I wasn't that impressed but it was good. The Chicago Style dog was everything that I was hoping for however. The bun is good, the dog is quality and I mean who doesn't like a great Chicago style dog. The stand out for me was the Whiskey battered ORings, they were full of flavor and went well with the dogs. I gave this 4 stars because of two of the 3 things I ate were amazing and the one dog was what it was. After getting pissed off and leaving because the food truck fest sucked, I headed over to Devil Dawgs with a group. The outside and the inside of this place aren't much. It is very divey, with a ton of neon signs in the windows, and I couldn't imagine more than 15 people in here at a time because it is very small with limited seating. Maybe six or seven tables at most? The food is really great though! Between the four of us we ordered two buckets of fries, one with cheese sauce, one taco hot dog, one coney hot dog, one double cheeseburger, two sloppy spicy burgers, and four drinks. Our total came to 40 bucks, which is really cheap for all of that food! Once you order, you find a seat (if you can) and wait for your food. We waited maybe 5 minutes because there weren't a lot of people in there which was nice. When we got the food we were kind of disappointed by the size of the burgers. We didn't know it before we went here, but they are known for their 'small, smashed' burgers. They were super small, especially considering the fact that they were doubles. I couldn't imagine what a single would look like. But I guess that explains why the prices were so cheap! Although we were disappointed by the size of the burgers, the food overall was really tasty. The fries are homemade and hand cut and a single bucket of fries (only $2.95) could have fed four people easily. The hot dogs were great, especially the taco dog. It came with some special taco sauce, pico de gallo, shredded cheddar cheese and tortilla chips on it. My sloppy, spicy burger came with horseradish, chili sauce, and onions. It was delicious and the horseradish was really strong. But again, the size was disappointing and it definitely didn't live up to its name of being sloppy or spicy. There wasn't much chili on it and the horseradish was more tangy than spicy. It still tasted good though. There were a lot of other items on the menu that I wanted to order because they looked and sounded really great. They had one cheeseburger called the Elvis and it came with bacon and peanut butter! Aside from their small, smashed burgers, they are also known for their milkshakes which for five bucks, looked pretty big. So when we found our planned dinner destination to be closed, we looked for hot dog joints on my Yelp app. Luckily, we found this establishment only a couple blocks down from the Hilton. My breakdown: I. FOOD *Chicago Dawg: Solid classic with mustard, onions, relish, pickle, tomato, sport peppers and celery salt. The mustard didn't overpower and the pickle gave a great crunch. I also appreciate the pillow-y soft bun. Pretty good. ($2.95) *Boykin Dawg: Consists of their homemade Coney sauce, hush hush slaw, and pickle. While I don't know what the first two ingredients I listed are, I can tell you that I had no problem scarfing this beauty down, and I liked it more than my Chicago dog. ($2.95) II. SERVICE Dogs came out in under five minutes and the staff there were nice. No problems. III. ATMOSPHERE/ DÉCOR It's "hot dog" shaped (ha ha), and clean, despite the foot traffic they get. There are some hi-top tables and sit-down seating. I imagine it would be impossible to sit anywhere, though, during peak hours. IV. PRICES They are very reasonable for the South Loop. V. Late night hotdogs for the win! Luckily there was a line so I could use that time to make my selection. I ended up with the Jose Caliente. I thought my husband and I were splitting a bag of fries with coney (chili) and devil sauce, but somehow we ended up with a bucket of fries and two sides of devil sauce. At 3am I just didn't feel like dealing to get it fixed and the fries were so good, we just ate what we got. So the devil dawg was supposed to be hotter. I didn't really find it to be spicy but the quarter pound meat was nice. The pico de gallo and pickled cucumbers were a nice touch in making it a meal and not just a hot dog. The ingredients tasted pretty fresh and light, which is a nice compliment to a greasy dog. The devil sauce was more mayo based and not overly spicy so wasn't really my thing, but I could appreciate the complexity. The employees were also pretty efficient in keeping the line moving. I thought all the food was also pretty inexpensive. I wouldn't be surprised if I make it back to Devil Dawgs several times during my Chicago adventures. read more

It's kind of small, but it's a hot dog shack, so to be expected. Now, the food. I had the pleasure of eating a chicken sandwich and fries. Both were very good and fresh. The chicken sandwich was huge, so I only ate about 1/3 of it. It was perfectly seasoned and fried, however the toppings made the sandwich. It was topped with pickle, some good cole slaw, and some kind of sauce. The sauce is called "hush hush" and I have no clue what's in it, but it's good. The fresh cut fries are some of the best I've had. In an attempt to mitigate damages with my calorie count.....I opted not to get cheese with my fries, but I can tell that those fries with cheddar cheese sauce is DREAMY and I will not be skipping the cheese next time. We stopped in here for a quick bite after we did some shopping on State Street. I got the yahya chicken slider and green chile cheese fries. My husband for the cheddar cheese dog. The Yahya chicken sliders is jerk chicken, cabbage and a sauce on a small bun. I thought it was great. The chicken was spicy and tender, the veggeis were crunchy and the bun was soft but didn't get mushy. The green chili cheese fries are exactly what they sound like, cheese fries with green chiles. Without hesitation I was given a recommendation to go for a Devil Dawg. It was a quick walk to the restaurant, but I almost turned around because it seemed too busy. I ignored how tired I was and decided I will wait for the meal no matter what. Surprisingly I did not wait long. The line progressed as fast as it could. When I was at the register to place my order I was greeted by an enthusiastic and welcoming man. I informed him what I was looking for and we shared a great conversation about the quality of their restaurant and what he would personally recomend from the menu. I placed my order then he shared his business card. I appreciate he reached out to me after we interacted. In such a manner he showed me his character as a man who ensures he is producing quality, not just managing a business. I got my meal after a very brief wait and bit into a warm, flavorful and unique dawg. I really enjoyed the meal, not because I was hungry from not having eaten all day, but because it was undeniably delicious. Taco Dawg ($3.95) - As you can reference from my picture, this hot dog is covered in a mountain of tortilla strips and the buns were so soggy, all I could really taste was the tortillas. There was nothing special about this flavour, I wouldn't order it again. 2. Signature Hand Cut Fries - Not fresh to say the least. I wouldn't buy this $1.95 bag of soggy potatoes next time. Stopped in while downtown for a quick lunch. We ordered The Clucker & Kick Azz burger, fries and 2 can beverages all for $15. The Clucker (fried chicken breast on a pretzel bun with pickles and special slaw) is very good. I would order it again even though I waffled between trying it and the Demon Devil Dawg. The description of the ingredients in the triple D was more appealing than the name of the dog. As for the kick a?! burger, it was tasty and what's not to love about hand cut fries..... A regular order of fries is a pretty large portion so it can be shared. If you can stomach paying for metered parking (required 7 days a week) and would like a quick but good meal at a fast food price point, check them out. read more

This place is the epitome of a cheat meal. While visiting Chicago, we couldn't resist the appeal of a Chicago dog. We got that, but wanted more. That's where Devil Dawgs comes in. My husband and I ordered a disgusting amount of food. Among those foods were a chili cheese dog, bacon dog, burger, onion rings, and fries. OH. MY. GOD. Grease was seeping through our pores after, but it was worth every bite. The onion rings were freshly battered and fried to perfection...same goes for the fries. The dogs were equally amazing. Of course, after that big meal, why not get a hand-crafted milkshake? We split a chocolate peanut butter shake and it was probably the best milk shake I have ever had in my life. Perfectly okay fast food joint. I tried the Elvis burger. The burger was a little smaller than average, but about what you'd expect from a $4 sandwich. The cashier made mine a double (and charged me for that) without asking, which was a minor aggravation. The peanut butter and bacon went well together, but nothing about the burger or the ingredients was particularly exceptional. I could see it playing very well in an airport or with college kids looking for a cheap bite. The Latin Beat shake was a little bit of a letdown. At $6, it was admittedly massive - plenty of a meal on its own. The chilis added a grainy texture, however, without adding particularly much flavor. It was just sort of a weirdly textured chocolate shake. It wasn't a bad shake, per se, but it didn't live up to my expectations in terms of flavor or feel.
