I took it to the Apple Store and explained that my main concern was recovering my photos. They did a quick diagnostic and could not get a response from the phone. The Apple Store said that they cannot repair water damage and would need to replace the logic board which would mean I would lose all the data and that it would cost about half the price of a new phone. They referred me to a data recovery business that everyone online says charges exorbitant fees, likely thousands of dollars. I decided to give GadgetMates a try as their website lists water damage and iPhone data recovery among their services. I brought my phone to them late on a Friday afternoon and they said they would diagnose it and get back to me. I expected to hear back Monday with some bad news, but was surprised when they called me back an hour or two later saying the phone just needs a new screen, power port, and proximity flex cable and the cost would be about half of what the Apple Store quoted. Most importantly, the logic board was intact. I swung by their store to enter my pin while they had it hooked up to a new screen so I could confirm the photos were all there. They were able to fix it that same day while I waited in their shop playing some arcade games. I highly recommend GadgetMates for any phone issues and wouldn't hesitate to use them again should the need arise.

Unfortunately, we did not buy the protection plan from our wireless provider (we never do), so when we came in to see our options, they recommended we come over to CPR Cell Phone Repair to see if they could fix it. Walking in, we were greeted warmly and explained the problem. The person at the desk (I forgot his name, sorry!) was quick to see if they had a screen for his type of phone and gave us a quote, with an estimated time, pretty quickly. The price was fair (much less than purchasing a new phone) and he quoted a wait time of a few hours. We gave him my phone number and moved on with our day, expecting to probably pick the phone up the next day. However, there were no other orders in front of us, so he texted us that the phone was done in a little over an hour and a half, much less time than was quoted! We were impressed by the work, you couldn't even tell that the phone had anything wrong with it.
