The first time I came here, I had high hopes, but had a maple cinnamon roll that was very raw on the inside. The flavor was ok but the dough was really undercooked. Decided to try it a second time, to give it another chance, and got a donut that was hard and had bad flavor. The icing didn't have much flavor either. Now these doughnuts are GINORMOUS and for $3 and up for each doughnut they should be GINORMOUS. But theres not enough glaze on the doughnut. So to me its just a lot of cake doughnut. They have some of the largest donuts. You might think $3 for a donut is too much, but they're the same size as 2-3 regular donuts so it's really not that expensive. The glazed donuts (vanilla, lemon blueberry, raspberry hibiscus) are very cakey and in my opinion, they're a bit too dry. But the flavors are impeccable and unbeatable. The bombs (cookies & cream, nutella, buckeye, peanut butter) are the same size but since they're filled, it doesn't feel as dry and cakey because the filling cuts that and adds moisture to the donut. They're something I love to get when I'm looking to indulge in sweets but definitely not something you should eat often. They're huge and eating it, I feel guilty about how much sugar I'm ingesting, but once I take a bite, all of my worries are lifted haha. The only thing I wish they had was a menu of what flavors they have on certain days or whatnot. I understand they like changing it up but I feel like I'll get one that I love and when I go back next time, they don't have it... However, that also forces me to try their other flavors and perhaps find a new favorite. Their donuts goo fast, but don't be alarmed! A few years ago I tried these donuts at the North Market and remember them being pretty tasty. I was excited to see that they opened a location in Clintonville. Unfortunately I was very disappointed by these doughnuts. They seem more like instagram doughnuts than flavor packed. The chemistry of the dough was delicious but the flavor just leaves you wanting more. The coffee was not very good as well. We paid $17 for four doughnuts and a black coffee. I got the Apple Cider raised donut. It tasted like apples and cinnamon (which was expected) but I felt like it was missing something. Memorial Day weekend road trip to Columbus. First time to North Market. Tip: Don't leave your parking ticket in your car. Take it in and get it validated at one of the vendors for $2 parking. Also take/find a knife to cut stuff up to share. Now Destination Donuts should be your first destination (see what I did there?). Beautiful, hard to choose, super friendly staff. These are not like Krispy Kreme's that melt in your mouth with hardly any chewing necessary. These are big, cakey and vanillay base donut dough. The dough is about the same in all the donuts with different toppings. We got lemon blueberry, chocolate decadence, chocolate peanut butter & salted butterscotch. Meh--- I'm surprised this place has 4 stars. I've heard about it quite a bit and I live right by the North Market and since I love donuts, I was long overdue to try this place out. So when my sister called me on a Saturday morning to meet up with her and her kids at North Market, I was excited to try this place out. For starters, they are similar to Jeni's in that they just don't have basic flavors. They all have pretentious sounding names and that instantly turns me off. There was just a straight up plain glazed donut and it's called "Belgian Vanilla" or something like that. When I asked the associate what that kind was she said "It's like a regular glazed donut." Ok then call it that! I opted for that since it was the most familiar to me. There was also a chocolate one that looked good so I ordered that one as well. The regular glazed was okay. But not at all worth any hype. The big issue is that there is way too much dough, so the dough to glaze ratio is just off. It would be much better if it were a regular sized donut. And the chocolate one....ugh gross!! I took two bites and passed it off to my family. This donut soon made its way to two of my sisters and my two brothers in law and NONE OF US liked it! The chocolate frosting was gross. We all agreed that it was semisweet baking chocolate that they used on top. That is not what you're supposed to use! Classic chocolate frosting will do. Seriously, not worth the calories. All in all, it's safe to say that I will not be returning. IMHO, you are better off driving farther out and going to Amy's Donuts. Heck, even Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme are way better than this place. I am obsessed with donuts and if I willingly gave one away, that tells you that these are not good. read more

I was at North Market again and I saw that they had a Buckeye Donut available, when they hadn't before. I decided to give them another chance and I came to the same conclusion as before that these donuts aren't worth it. The donut is way too big (I guess as part of the way to justify the price). Whenever I tried to get a bite, I would either get a mouthful of donut or a mouthful of peanut butter cream. I never once got to taste the chocolate on the donut. While the cream was good, it was offset by the vast amount of donut with it, and the donut, in my opinion, wasn't a tasty donut. So, I will not be trying them again. They have a fun and unique selection of flavors. Some of them sound a little different but do not be afraid to give them a try. Raspberry hibiscus is to die for. I'm so happy that Destination Donuts has a permanent spot now in the North Market. Happy for them and happy for the fact that when I get to North Market late, the donuts won't already be gone. Prior to me waking up early on Saturday to go get some donuts, I'd only tried DD's cinnamon-sugar donut, and it was nice and fluffy and pretty damn big. This is how all their donuts are I've come to find. When I got to their stand just after 9 am, they had about 6 different flavors out, plus a sour cream donut hole. I ordered one of each, so I'd have a better grasp on what I'd want the next time I was here. I don't remember the names of everything I got, but I'd say my favorites were definitely the Raspberry Hibiscus, and this butterscotch one I had. The Dueling Vanilla, Macadamia Nut, and Lemon Blueberry were also pretty tasty. One was covered in a chocolate icing that I wasn't a fan of. These donuts were super light and fluffy and stayed that way pretty much all day. I think my only gripe is that they're pretty cool when you get them or at least mine were. I like donuts every which way, so it wasn't a big deal, but I was kind of wishing for them to be a little warmer. If you're trying to cut weight like me, stay away; otherwise, stuff yourself silly. I usually stay away from donuts, but after seeing some pictures earlier in the week, I had such a craving and couldn't hold back. Every time we visit Destination Donuts in the North Market the employees are always super friendly and genuinely seem happy to be doing their jobs. They are always working constantly at either creating more donuts, cleaning up their vendor space or waiting on the long line of customers that can pile up, so it's great seeing awesome customer service nowadays. On this last visit they had about 6 different round donuts with different toppings to choose from (I do really wish they had some cream filled options more often!) We chose a Butterscotch Sea Salt donut, which really just tasted like a glazed donut...but an out-of-this-world-amazingly-delicious glazed donut!!! Super soft and chewy, thick and perfectly cakey, just the right amount of glaze on top. Girl at the counter was very helpful in egging me in the right direction of getting an additional cinnamon roll. I really liked the glass display windows of Destination's booth...really convenient that they're on a corner too...that way you can not only see all the prettiful fried goods, but also the process of them being made (hopefully I'm not the only one that silently 'oooohs' at things being fried/glazed, lol). But yes. Back to the donut. The streaks of chocolate glaze was just enough to give that hit of dark chocolate, but really the standout flavor was the valencia orange. Definitely didn't taste like the overly cloying/fake sort of orange flavoring you get in mass produced sherbet. Who doesn't love a donut? Especially the giant, brightly colored, frosted ones at Destination Donut. While they're visually pleasing, on the flavor front, I was disappointed. First off, their dough leans towards being bread-like, similar to Portland's Blue Star which is cool with me. As mentioned earlier, their frosting and glazes weren't as flavorful as I expected them to be. The Dueling Vanilla (Madagascar + Tahitian) tasted no different than your typical glazed donut. It was extremely hard to taste any hint of vanilla flavor, let alone the TWO kinds of beans that were used. As for the other flavors that I tried, this "less than expected" experience became the norm. For me, the best donut that I had was a strawberry jam stuffed one. Where the donut hole was filled with strawberry jam and topped with almonds. For me, these donuts are more of a feast for the eyes than the stomach. read more
