Came here to get a dress altered and overall the actual alteration work was done well. I needed the…read moredress taken in slightly around the bust and waist area and it cost me $90. The dress fit perfectly afterward and they completed it within a week, earlier than the pickup date I had asked for. The main issue for me was the organization during pickup. I received a text saying my dress was ready, but when I arrived they brought out a completely different piece of clothing even after I clearly described my dress. Turns out they had mixed up the name tags between my dress and someone else's. I ended up going to the back with them and immediately spotted my dress myself. I pointed it out and they asked if I was sure it was mine, which was a little strange. Then they asked me to try it on. At first I thought they just wanted to confirm the alterations looked right, but it turned out they wanted to see if it fit me to determine whether it was actually my dress. Thankfully it fit like a glove. Even after that, they still seemed unsure so I showed Yelp messages I had previously sent with photos of the dress, along with my receipt and even how much I paid. I usually throw receipts away, so thank goodness I still had it. After confirming in multiple different ways, they finally let me take my dress home. Another woman was also there picking up clothing after receiving a text notification and they were struggling to locate her item too, so it didn't seem like an isolated issue. Overall, I think the tailoring work itself is solid, but the shop felt pretty disorganized. The guy working there did apologize before I left, which I appreciated, but the whole process of having to repeatedly prove the dress was mine was definitely frustrating.

I cannot believe I am finally writing this review eight months after wearing my favorite dress…read moreever. After my experience with Mary, I assumed I shared my excitement and love for her work MUCH sooner. Shame on me. Let me start off by saying that I had a short engagement and didn't start planning until three months after being engaged. From the time we locked in a date, venue, & dress, I had six months to get everything finalized. After a quick Google search, it was apparent that Mary is quite literally the best in the industry. I was lucky to have some great vendors along the way, but Mary was definitely in the top 2. I managed to get a slot in after a cancellation she had (same way I got my venue, haha). Thankfully everything worked beautifully with my timeline, and if it didn't, Mary sure made it feel that way. So this is your sign to send her that email and get in ASAP! From the first email to our last conversation in person, Mary detailed every step of the way. She was very detailed in exactly what alterations she was planning on and why. She initially even quoted me higher than she ended up charging me at pickup. I mean...what a delightful surprise that is before the wedding! Mary is also kind, relatable, and professional. I was able to take off and put on my dress with 100's of pins in it and not get pricked once. She takes Covid precautions very seriously so a mask and vaccination card are required (as of 9/3/2022). She also recommends taking lots of pictures and recording the bustle appointment so you don't run into any issues the day-of. I can't say enough great things about Mary and how I could fully trust the process with her. She turned a dress I really liked into a piece that I love and absolutely adore. In the end, it fit like a glove and never did she make me feel like I had to fit a certain criteria to achieve this feeling of adoration on my wedding day. And that my friends, you can't put a price on.

I took in two pair of jeans (one brand-new, one vintage) for alteration. The new pair just needed to be hemmed. I specified ORIGINAL HEM. They weren't embellished and didn't have difficult seams or finishes and they charged me $75 to hem and the original hem wasn't applied. I called them twice while I was waiting for them to be done (I wanted to remind them, because it was prom season and they were busy). the woman on the phone said "We always do original hem" but I didn't get original hem back and now the jeans look cheaply made (the hem is also crooked). The other pair is a vintage pair of Calvin Klein jeans that I bough a size too large so they could be tailored to my body. They charged me $100 for those, which also seemed steep but I paid it. When I went to pick them up, it's like no one had actually touched the jeans. I tried them on again for them to correct it and was specific when the attendant was pinning them. I still don't think they were done, because now it looks like I have saddlebags because they were never taken in on the hips where I showed. I have now paid almost $200 for two pair of jeans to be altered that weren't what asked for; getting it fixed at another tailor will mean even more money spent. I will continue my search in Chicago for someone who can make basic alterations to clothing. Not removing/adjusting seams or dealing with challenging fabric-just 100% cotton fabric. with basic hem or just taking inches in along the side seams. Basic tailoring shouldn't cost so much or be this hard.
