I was sorry not to see more recent reviews. Boguslaw is still at 919 N Michigan Avenue. IMHO he is the best tailor in Chicago. I have always trusted him with my very best clothes. He know just where to "nip and tuck" to make your clothes fit properly. i bought an inexpensive tuxedo (a size larger than I needed) he completely remade it for me and it looked like a Tom Ford. I hesitate to post this review because Boguslaw's got a lot of (surprisingly high-profile) clients in his tiny shop and still manages to turn things around fast ... I'm hoping this isn't one of those situations where too much business becomes a bad thing. The guy's had consistently glowing write-ups in every single Chicago style magazine, so I imagine the damage is done (insert bad joke about tailors and misunderstood Neil Young lyrics here). Summary: Boguslaw does impeccable work, knows his stuff, and is an extremely nice guy. I recently moved to Chicago and realized instead of shipping projects to my (also absolutely amazing) tailor back in DC, I needed to branch out and find somebody here. Three separate long-time residents gave me recommendations to go to Boguslaw on Oak St, and I am totally 100% sold on this man's genius. Tip: Take his advice. Every time I've been in his shop, he's been knee-deep in pinning folks who criticized his ideas and gave him a hard time. As a bystander checking out the work he was doing with his clients, he was absolutely right with every instinct. I had an amazing experience with Boguslaw I had a sample size wedding dress-a Reem Acra with really delicate beading at the top. He took it down to the right size, and it was done perfectly. My bridesmaids also went to him and he did a good job every one I have seen walking in there has really high end store garment bags...he must be doing something right!!!!! it's not cheap, but worth it if you want a good tailor read more

As is said in an earlier review, listen to his advice. He's the man. He's very honest and will not alter a something just for the business. I've only been in his shop a few times and I've seen him turn multiple people away due to them not needing their clothes altered. He also told me not to get a pair of jeans tapered because they always look horrible and that I wouldn't like them. Perhaps it's not a prudent move to turn away a paying customer, however, to me, it made me trust him even more. You won't be disappointed. read more

Super amazing work but very expensive - Boguslaw altered my wedding dress and did a terrific job. Highly recommend based on the thoroughness and quality of his work. As others have said, trust his recommendations 100%. Downsides: my dress wasn't ready on the agreed upon date which was a mix-up in the shop, but they did hustle and get it done by the next day. He also didn't tell me ahead of time that he didn't accept credit card, so I had to ask my MOH to write a check for $700! He also sort of insulted my mom when he told her there was no way she had enough cash to pay for it... Note - shop has now moved from Oak Street to the Palmolive Building. read more

Don't be afraid of the insane amount of clutter these people amass in there shop, you will get your clothing back! The work is top notch, had several suits tailored to a "T". Men: make sure you ask for extra areas you need specifically altered on clothing, they like to rush you in & out. My original quote was significantly less than my actual bill ended up being however the fit on everything I've had done at Boguslaw was perfect. They like cash. read more

Boguslaw is da man! He's altered a number of my off-the-rack sports coats and suits, and every article looks amazing when he's done. He is expensive, but he worked with me to prioritize each area that needed alteration so that I could pick and choose to fit my budget. He delivers his expert advice / suggestions with candor and can be slightly abrasive, but trust every word and do not get offended - he'll make you look like John Stamos! read more

First, he has since moved to the Palmolive Building (919 N Michigan, entrance is on Walton across from the Drake. He has done amazing work on two of my suits and three separate blazers. He is straightforward but not pushy with his recommendations. He'll tell you, what he recommends, how much it will be and leaves it up to you whether you want it done or not. Boguslaw does a fantastic job. Don't be fooled by the hole in the wall location, he transforms suits exactly the way you want to see them. I took a couple to him that were one full size too big and he was able to tailor them down to a great slim fit. It was a two week turnaround and pretty competitive prices. He's got a no bullshit attitude too which I love, he'll always give it to you straight. Will definitely be using him as my primary tailor here in Chicago. read more

Get some thing of yours tailored here and it is difficult to measure how much better it would look because it would look so much better.

I have been going to Boguslaw for over 15 years. I am an executive in the luxury mens business, and have all my clothes made in Milan. But when I need adjustments, or have issues, then this is the man to see. He has a great business for a reason, and pretty much every fine store on Michigan Ave in the luxury Designer arena, relies on his magic to make clients happy. Owner is SO mean. Work is mediocre. Worst location zero parking. VERY overpriced.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Boguslaw. The woman who measured me to have my dress shirts trimmed only wanted to pin 1, and merely copy the rest...I should have recognized that they were lazy. When I tried on my shirts, they argued with me about the final product. I ended having to pay $45 a shirt (cash only) and then had to have all my shirts (6) redone by another tailor who only charged $25 a shirt. Don't waste your time or money here... read more

Although he did in ok job on the tailoring of my wedding dress (which was difficult to take from a size 10 to size 2 with beading), he was so difficult to work with! He was rude and did not listen to my opinions. Additionally, he did not show up for my final fitting (after paying hundreds of dollars)! When I picked the dress up the day before my wedding, there was a stain on the back. Overall, a horrible expericence. read more

Due to all the overwhelming reviews, we selected this place for a wedding dress alteration. They did a great job in just 3 weeks. For $350, the dress was shortened (this was the simple part), a complicated bustle added, and steamed/cleaned. They were very nice to us even though we were late to 2 of the appointments. The store is very small and cluttered but don't let that scare you. And yes, Boguslaw does have a temperment of an "artist" but he has a great eye and is trustworthy. If you're short on time and want quality assurance, this is the place! read more

To give them one star is a stretch. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer. To say they have any customer service is an overstatement. First, they were not able to find my dress in the mess that is their store. The dress was not ready on time when they had MORE than enough time to complete a simple hem shortening. Then my alterations were WAY too overpriced ($60 for a simple hem shortening). They insisted I had to pay in cash and when I had a question about the quality of the alteration (the hem was not straight) I was yelled at and told it was my fault. I have never been so angry and so poorly treated. I would not recommend that anyone have alterations done here. read more

Boguslaw and his team came highly recommended by the place I bought my wedding gown. When we first walked in, it was a tiny shop with lots of activity. Boguslaw quickly made us feel welcomed, eased my mom's nervousness, and made me extremely happy with the alterations and advice he gave. He had to take quite a bit off in the hem and the dress had an asymmetrical hem, but they made it look even more beautiful and kept the design of the dress. They built a bra into the gown, removed and reinstalled (? is that the correct term for alterations) the zipper, and fixed the seaming in a complex gown. It was perfect, they were sweet, and we were so happy. While he did my pinning, he also handled other customers...just deal with it. He is worth it. The women who work with him are very sweet too. I have more regular stuff to take to him now...don't hesitate. This guy is great. read more

Really bad experience with very simple alterations to a number of pairs of mens trousers. I had lost some weight and needed some excess material taken out of the waist and the seat. I was quoted a price over the phone for this work, but then charged about 40% more because so much material needed to be taken out. OK, I figured... I guess I can live with that. When I got the first attempt back, the waist was perfect but the seat and the hips were really tight and uncomfortable. I was asked to wear them for a few weeks to get comfortable with the trimmer fit and then bring them back if I still didn't like it. I tried the tight fit, but couldn't get comfortable with it. I brought the trousers back and explained. I am willing to overlook the frustration in the man's voice as he rushed me through the re-marking process. I emphasized that the waist is fine but I need more room in the hips and seat. I picked up the pants a week later and it's obvious all that was done was to let out the waist again. Now I have a bunch of pants that fit horribly in the waist, the hips and the seat. It shouldn't be this hard. I give up and will try someone else who either cares more or has more attention to detail (or both). Really, really disappointed with how much time and money I've wasted. read more

I thought a lot before writing this review, but I just cannot not share my terrible experience with this tailor. I had my bridesmaid dress tailored there, which required a simple hem. It turned out it was not so simple, for the following reasons: 1) when I brought the dress in, he seemed disinterested and preoccupied (busy, I understand, but if you show your clients some professionalism, they may just come back to you); 2) when I picked up the dress, not only did they hem it, but they also replaced a zipper (which I did not ask!), which obviously ended up costing me more than just a simple hem; 3) the dress was not steamed, did not come in a nice garment bag or anything close to it and looked like it was thrown into the same bag that I brought it in and was more wrinkled than before; 4) lastly, and most importantly, the dress had a stain on it! Right in the front, as if someone grabbed it with their greasy fingers. Again, mistakes happen, and I would have understood it if someone told me about it and tried to fix it, but that did not happen. I saw the stain when I got home. I called them. Their reply was simply rude and after accusing me that the stain was probably there before they took in the dress, they hung up the phone. Yes! That is Boguslaw Tailoring. Oh, and they charged me $90 for it. So, if you care for your clothes and want at least a semi-professional experience, please avoid this shop. They should be ashamed of the work they do. read more
