I'm really surprised at all of the 5 star reviews here because I definitely did not have a positive experience here.
I originally went to my regular nail salon that I've been going to for years but when I got there, they were extremely busy ( I'm thrilled about this because I was one of their first customers and I love seeing how their business has grown). Anyway, I couldn't wait so I got on Yelp to find somewhere that was close and had a great rating.
Well, turns out that Designer Nails was only about 4 blocks away AND they were offering 10% off if you mention that you found them on Yelp.GREAT!
So, I get there and it's empty so they take me right away and seemed extremely nice and welcoming. I tell them that my salon was full and that their great ratings plus the 10% off on Yelp is what led me to them and they seem thrilled.
That's the end of the good part.
As soon as I sat down the owner starts trying to up-sell to me very relentlessly. First it was gel which I don't care for, then it was his designs-if I pay for a manicure with his designs THEN I'll get a cocktail, then it was his 3D designs, then it was a new organic acrylic powder. Next, I had to sit there while he pulled out his phone to show me a ton of different nails he's done.I felt like when you have to smile politely while somebody pulls out their childs every picture while you're sitting there thinking of how long is this going to go on for. He figures while he still has his phone in my face that I should give him my full name so he can friend me on facebook. He then asks me for my phone number and enters it into his phone(awkward!). After all of this,I was stupid enough (after feeling like I'd just visited a pushy car salesman) to ask about pink and white acrylics. Oh boy, did I get an earful.
He began to tell me how he is the only one who actually uses pink and white powder while every other salon just paints over natural colored tips and acrylic-NOT true, I've been getting my nails done for over 25 years and when I've asked for pink and white acrylic that's exactly what I've received.
The women who did my mani and pedi were very friendly but my toenails ended up cut crooked and though I asked for VERY square nails on my toes and hands, that is not what I received.
No massage,no lotion whatsoever for my hands or my feet.
Maybe my nail salon has spoiled me but I always get a small hand massage with lotion with my manis and a massage with lotion for my legs and feet with my pedis.
I felt like I was on the receiving end of a Spanish Inquisition while they asked me 3 times if my partner was my sister(it's pretty obvious just by looking at us that we are a couple, unless you've lived under a rock), where do I live?what cross streets?what do I do for a living? how long have I been doing it?who do I work for? What is my regular nail salon? Where is it?
Trust me, this wasn't just friendly idle chatter. I felt like they were sizing me up to see how much they could get away with charging me- the prices are not posted.
Thankfully, we're at the end and it's time to pay and get the hell out of there.I ask how much I owe and remind them about the 10% off on Yelp.
The owner THEN tells me that they are no longer honoring the 10% advertised on Yelp-I guess he didn't feel like telling me that when it was one of the first things I mentioned upon entering, why blow the sale before getting the money, right? It also turns out that the buffing of your feet is considered a callous removal and you get an extra $10 charge. Everywhere else I've been it's just part of the pedicure.
That, for me was the last straw, it's not about the $7, it's more because they wouldn't honor something that THEY have advertised and would just blow a customer off like that instead of taking responsibility and honoring their own promotion.
So, now it's 1.5 days after I went and my nail polish is chipping off of at least 4 nails(picture will be posted).I know I don't want to ever go back there(even if I get a steak and lobster dinner with that cocktail) so I call my nail tech and set up an appointment to get a white and pink full set for $40.
I open up my facebook and I see his friend request, which I do not accept, but I do message him with a picture of the white/pink set I want and ask what the cost would be(sheer curiosity) he replies with "$70".
At least I got a good laugh at the end of this mess. read more
