The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, there's always a rom com to watch on tv, candy to snack on and Thank you to Nick for always being able to work around my insanely busy schedule and helping me squeeze in a pedicure when I decide on a whim I need to make it happen. HUGE HUGE HUGE thanks to Tonia the literal best nail artist in town. She has been allowing me to do all kinds of crazy nail designs for years. There is truly no one better than her. Her precision and dedication to perfection is unparalleled. I receive so many compliments and you can just absolutely tell the care and passion she has for her craft with every new idea we have together. I would like to give them a 3.5 at least as I did have a somewhat pleasant experience. I decided to try a new nail salon since I had some class pass credits to use. Thy Thy was assigned to me and she got straight to work. Her demeanor was very pleasant and she worked efficiently. She didn't talk much (which I was ok with) and when she did she was very friendly. My only gripes were she was a little rough around my cuticles and she didn't mention French tips were extra (I haven't had them before so I wasn't aware). It was an additional $13 I would have rather spent on lunch since I had already prepaid for a Gel Manicure through a Class Pass. The owner (I'm assuming) made the additional charge known to me when I went to get change for a tip. He didn't even try to apologize or accommodate me at all for the lack of information. He just said "they're always extra" and when I told him I never had them before he didn't say anything. Had I known I would have just gotten basic nude gel. Last random facts: Vibes are minimal. The manicure set up was not the most comfortable. Bonus points for having a parking lot in Studio City. If you're sensitive to smells do not go around lunch time. I appreciate their affordable $44 gel manicure (now well over $60 including Upcharges and gratuity) but I may pay the additional few dollars to stay at my regular place where I'm treated to water, tea/coffee and warm herbal neck pillows for a similar price. Disappointing experience here unfortunately. I think the staff are still learning new products like Dazzle Dry, and while the girls doing my nails were polite, the service quality and communication about pricing were disappointing. I left with lumpy nails and the tips already chipping. The total was much more than expected and he said it's because of hard gel removal. I sent the manager pictures and he credited me 10 dollars and also said anywhere I'd go they'd charge extra to take off hard gel because I told him I wish they let me know it would cost an extra 14 (the other salon I go to doesn't when you get a service) I likely won't return, but I wanted to share my experience so others are aware. I ended up paying so much only to have a 10 dollar credit and having to schedule else where for a new manicure :( read more

This place reminds me of a sweat shop; it has a slavy-driving feel to it. My nails began to yellow after having them done here. I discovered that I had contracted some bacteria after repeated gel treat- ments. Had to see a doctor. I was told I have to let them grow out. Does Josesphine's disinfect the tubs they use? I've been going to Josephine Nails Spa since I moved to the area 3 years ago and they are wonderful! Nick, who handles the bookings is always pleasant when I call or come in. Nick knows his staff well to refer specific nail techs when I want something specific (ex. Gel-X, design, etc). Super welcoming and remembers the names of the regular customers names! My go to for Gel-X or hard gel is Jennifer and Nina. I always gravitate to getting French tip or neutral every time and they always do an amazing job!! Plus, the staff is always sweet! The salon has a very family oriented vibe from what I observe. My favorite part: they play all the best Rom-Com movies that I love rewatching or watch for the first time! :) The only thing to look out for when coming here is parking, especially during the weekends. My first visit was during Covid-19. I just really needed to get out of the house and my feet needed some tender loving care. And I've went a few times just to see if the service was just eh cuz of the pandemic but nope it wasn't. First, omg the parking is horrendous. If you can get dropped off, get dropped off cuz they have like enough spaces for 5 cars max. Be warned. Lyn was the first person I had and she was good overall. Good at the pedicure and good at the massage. Next was Julie. She did a good job on the pedicure but the massage portion was weak. It was like she couldn't wait to get finished with to move onto the next person. The last time I went, I got a guy and he was mediocre. He didn't really get all my cuticles and there was nail polish on the skin of my toes after he was done. And the massage was mediocre as well. This is one of the better nail salon experiences I've had in a long time and I'm not even mad the nails only lasted a week before they started breaking, though I hope we can avoid that next time. I would come back because: 1. The guy who operates the scheduling and front desk (Nick, I believe, also might be the owner?) has it down pat and makes the whole experience go smoothly. Super professional and makes sure you're taken care of in a timely fashion despite it being crazy busy--the place was jam packed on a Friday night. 2. I got to sit right in front of the TV and watch 13 going on 30 the whole time so that was fun. I usually hate getting my nails done because I'm bored beyond belief but this might be the first salon I've gotten to watch a decent movie in. Probably got lucky with that one but if they typically have movies playing, count me in. 3. They had a TON of colors to choose from. More so than anywhere I've been in years. I just wanted a cream shade and they had like 30 shades of cream. Nice. 4. The girl did a great job on my dip set and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. The price was reasonable enough to have me come back in for another appointment. My only issue was if there was something she could have done differently so my set didn't start peeling and breaking within a week. But I am willing to give them another shot and see if we can make them last longer. First timer at Josephine's and I'll definitely be back! 8/10 on my gel manicure. Since I had requested an almond shape, filing to the shape probably took the most time. Some of my nails are sharper at the tip than others, and the height is variable. I had originally wanted French tip but was told it might not look good since I have a thicker white part of my nail that you would still see. So we went with a glitter ombre look instead. Very happy with it nonetheless! 10/10 on the gel pedicure! Lilly took her time and did a great job! The callus removal is well worth it for sure, my feet came out feeling like a baby's bottom! 4/5 stars total and would highly recommend! Would be 5 stars but the shaping of my manicure was inconsistent and I was at the salon for 2.5 hours, which I felt was a very long time. read more

I love this nail spot! They are so nice, way gentler on my weak nails, and have special long lasting polish options (dazzle dry). I live out of town, but plan to try and make a regular visit when I'm in town. They also always have good tv to watch while I'm drying, and don't have a terrible nail salon smell. I love the fact that they have a variety of colors(even though I only go for nude colors--they manage to have a selection of this) Parking can be tough, but you can squeeze in your car in the back parking lot and even block other cars because one of the staff can always move the car for u if you aren't finish with your service. Somehow I keep getting stuck with the same pedicurist each time, even though I've specifically asked to try somebody new when I make the appointment. I believe they keep a record based on your past services and won't accommodate a switch. The upsell is exhausting. There are several extra services they interrupt and ask if you want to upgrade to during your session. This includes your nail polish selection. I picked one OPI color and my pedicurist made a big deal of switching to Dazzle Dry and paying more. The last thing, is that they typically start 10-15 mins after your appointment time. One time it was 30 mins and they offered a bit of a discount on my pedi. After 4 not so great experiences here, I'll be switching salons. read more

I started seeing Tonia and she is the best and quite the perfectionist ...my nails last until the next manicure which is usually two weeks. The shop has an enormous selection of colors more than any shop I've ever been to. Everyone is so friendly from staff to clientele, especially Nick, the manager of the shop, who will always do whatever he can to fit me in If I end up calling at the last minute. I originally made an appointment with Tiffany but when I got there a different nail tech had to work on me because she didn't know how to do a French ombré. Really wanted to try a new place out as my go to nail salon is always busy, and I would love to have other options in the area. I called to just have a gel manicure, and went in on Friday. At first everything seemed nice, they had a lot of color options to choose from which I loved, the space was inviting, and they had a lot of seating. The parking was horrible they have a small lot in the back with only 4 spots, and if it's full you get to park on the streets, which on Ventura Blvd get very busy. Going to my nails, I always ask for short straight square nails, and the lady who did my nails made them slanted and oval and when I asked her to file one side of it to make it more straight she completely changed the shape of my nail from square to some squoval shape. Again this was almost for every single one of my nails, so at this point I lost hope, and accepted my disaster of an outcome. My cuticles were not even properly cleaned it barely felt like she was using the tool on my hand. Not even 2 days later I noticed my nail has chipped, I'm so upset at the service I received here, and the price I paid for. For 44$ for a gel manicure you can receive better quality, with lower price literally anywhere else on Ventura Blvd. So disappointed. At this point I'm glad they chipped so early so I can just return to my regular nail salon to give me a decent gel manicure. read more

The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because the people who work there (including my nail tech) are lovely. So sweet and accommodating. But my nails are terrible. They are so thick it looks like I painted them myself ... and put on 5 coats of polish. There is clear coat all over my cuticles and underneath my nails, they are glued or polished to the skin. I'm not going to name my nail tech because she was absolutely lovely and I'm hoping it was simply an off night. My appt was at 6:30p, which they promptly sat me down and got started. She began working on my nails and then a tech came over and began my pedicure. Even though I would like both done at the same time to save time, I think doing acrylics while in the pedicure chair is maybe not the best idea. Covid safety is great, they have plastic partitions every 2 chairs, but that made it extremely uncomfortable and also difficult for her to do the acrylics - or to hear each other! We eventually moved to a table. She worked on my nails from 6:30p until 9p. I got acrylic full set. I planned on regular polish but ending up paying for the gel because by the time she started painting, we would have been there past 9pm waiting for my nails to dry. For the amount they charge (which is not crazy high but more than what many places charge) I would expect the nails to be flawless when finished. So very disappointed. I will call in the morning and I hope they do the right thing - remove the polish, even out the acrylics and repaint. But that means in total, I will have spent around 3 1/2 - 4 hours getting an acrylic set with gel polish (when I wanted regular polish. Posting pics but I'm not even sure they do justice to how thick, and poorly polished, they are... plus I'm still trying to get the underneath of my nails unstuck!!! read more
