I can go on Amazon.com today, buy a 100 pound lawnmower and more than likely get it delivered to my door tomorrow. Went to DWR to buy an Eames table. Not only would I need to use my child's college fund to buy it, but they say it will take 13-14 weeks to deliver it (plus shipping) because it's in another warehouse. Decided to buy a small Panton lamp as that's "easy" to get. Three weeks later, checked online to see shipping status, and it has yet to be fulfilled (sitting in warehouse). Called DWR and they say it may be another 2-3 weeks to ship. For the cost of shipping alone on this small 2 pound lamp, I could ship myself via UPS across the country to the warehouse and pick it up. What company on the planet still operates like this? It's no longer 1987. read more

First, I like to say I was hesitant to come to the Larkspur DWR because of some of the recent negative reviews mainly focused on customer service. But I prefer seeing for myself to justify writing a review and I have to say that my customer service experience at the Larkspur location was superb! I was helped by Tom, the Studio Account Executive. I was walking around the studio space for a few minutes and Tom walked up to me and asked if I had any questions. I was looking at the Eames lounge chair and he helped me answer all of my questions on size of chair and finish. He was very patient with me and pulled out a variety of leather samples to show me and talked about what size chair that works for me. Having actual floor samples helped me understand what worked and what didn't. Tom was extremely helpful in my case. I highly recommend you see for yourself. Customer service was friendly and far from the negative reviews. I do have to say that the negative reviews were directed at a specific person who was not there when I visited. read more

Unfortunately DWR has some well designed items and some not so well designed or executed products. I've had enough problems with them that I had to finally leave a review as a courtesy to other customers. We just waited seven months for a rug, and they arrived to white glove deliver and the company never sent the rug pad?! We'd moved all our furniture out of the room to accommodate the rug and now we WAIT some more for the rug pad to arrive. The salesperson, Andy, told me on the phone, I have good news, it will be there in a few weeks. Good news? Interesting what passes for customer these days, especially after you drop thousands on merch. I've also had two employees accuse me of not running orders through them so they get credit for the sale, who is working for who here? BTW they were wrong! Lasting I ordered some walnut night stands and the drawer runner was not secured in place, so I had to Dismantled and reattach screw and repair myself, brand new?! Sad times at dwr! read more

Stopped in for the opening weekend at DWR in Corte Madera, to a light, airy showroom. I have mixed feelings about DWR. They are now owned by Herman Miller (since 2012) which gives them more stability as a brand and so they are able to expand their retail to San Francisco, Berkeley and now Corte Madera. The opening weekend featured lots of friendly staff saying hello, a gorgeous showroom, complementary food and local kombacha and mimosas, and more convenient (for us) Marin location in the Marin Mart. On the other hand, the prices ensure it's not accessible to many customers. And then there's our experience with customer service on the delivery side. We purchased items from the Palo Alto store, and our last purchase was a nightmare due to their use of an outside vendor, XPO Logistics, who performed the delivery. When I asked today, I was told XPO is still their corporate logistics vendor of choice. (Yikes. Just Yelp XPO Union City, to see why this partnership is highly problematic.) So, jury is out on whether we are willing to try purchasing at DWR again given our last nightmare experience with XPO. Meanwhile, the opening weekend (and the showroom and staff) made a positive first impression. read more

Purchased a Herman Miller chair which we love. After about a year the backing broke off. Since it is under warranty, it merely needed to get the approval, and send to my husband and to me a return box for the broken piece, which would be repaired and returned. BUT... worked with Fox at DWR Larkspur. Gave me a couple different versions of the steps. It took A MONTH AND A HALF -- SO FAR -- not even including repair and return time to get to the point of getting the approval (didn't take long), the return box, the label and scheduling with Fed Ex for pick-up! Throughout this whole time, I had to keep checking in once or twice weekly with our salesman, Fox, on the progress, only to hear that he's surprised "they" hadn't taken care of it and that he'd look into it. He dropped the ball continually. It took DAYS of checking in DAILY just to get the box and then TWICE DAILY to have him send me the Fed-Ex return label because the return box didn't come with a return label, nor was one sent to me. Meanwhile, Fed-Ex came to my door daily to pick a package that wasn't ready because I was waiting on Fox to send me the return label, so I had to keep turning the drivers away. After waiting DAYS for the label, with TWICE DAILY checking in with Fox, instead of prolonging this indefinitely, my husband worked with William, the manager, who, in minutes found the label and emailed it to us. We are taking it to a local Fed Ex office to avoid any further aggravating delays. This simple process turned into an absolutely absurd and unprofessional way of doing "business." I will NEVER EVER shop here again. The prices are very high, and numerous items can be purchase, on sale elsewhere. I will be sure to let my friends and family know about my experience and to avoid the store completely and to shop elsewhere. read more

First, Ill say the staff was friendly and product was well made. Problems started when the in stock furniture was delivered damaged, then replaced 2 weeks later with a damaged piece again. For a month, they have been trying to deliver the wrong piece and Ive been calling, emailing and texting to let them know of the mix up with no response or delivery correction. While the showroom staff has been very nice about saying they will fix the issue, it hasn't happened. 2 months later and I still don't have the furniture I ordered. The delivery company sends about 4 texts, 4 emails and 2 calls per day to arrange for the wrong replacement piece. The whole experience after the showroom purchase has been an exercise in frustration. read more

I had been searching for a local shop to try a Herman Miller chair, but was really hesitant to come into this store because of all the bad reviews. It actually stopped me from even considering these chairs when I was in the market for one myself. This afternoon my wife and I came in and we found the store to be perfectly normal. We were helped by Annette who was very friendly and approachable. She showed us all of their office chair options that they had in store. They have the whole selection of Herman Miller chairs lined up like a showcase. Annette was very honest and didn't try to up sell us on anything. My wife fits a size "A" Aeron but they didn't have that size on their showroom floor. We were shown how important fit was while testing out their size "B" chair. We were also walked through every single adjustment point and then compared the rest of the chairs. We ended up asking her about the chair she sits on, and the moment my wife sat in the Embody chair she knew it was the perfect fit. We appreciated hearing Annette's feedback with the chair since she uses it daily at the store. If I could go back in time, I wish I could have tried out this store and I would have ordered an Embody chair for myself! read more

I went to this store (opposite the ferry terminal) today (7/26/21), and wow, talk about unfriendly and discriminatory treatment. I am deliberately holding back from saying "racist treatment" because that is a pretty serious assertion, but frankly, it felt like racial discrimination. I walked in with my toddler, we looked at side tables (that I wanted to purchase) for about 15-17 minutes - no attendant came up to us to ask if we needed help (they actually didn't acknowledge our presence at all); I was the ONLY one on the store floor. There were three attendants that I could gauge. None of them took the time to say, "we'll be there in a few" (IF they were busy). Nothing. Then, walked in a White family, and within 2 minutes an attendant came up to them. I actually waited to see if that same person would walk up to us to ask if WE - people who had been there for 15 minutes - needed assistance, but they didn't. Seeing this, I walked up to the desk and said that I had been there for about 15 minutes and hadn't been helped. I was explicit in stating that they chose to greet/assist people who came in AFTER me. I was then helped, but only because I asked. I would have bought the tables I was looking at because they were for a friend in San Francisco, but now, I am going to purchase them elsewhere (DWR is NOT the only place that carries that brand or other brands) and have them shipped to my friend's. Well, DWR, today you lost a loyal customer of over 15 years. If I didn't have my toddler with me, I would have been less gracious than I was. Being a supposedly premier furniture store since its founding back in 1999-2000, perhaps the company should employ people who embody a sense of worldliness and an understanding of DIVERSITY. Ignorant and rather tacky treatment of customers only lowers the value of the brand. Quite frankly, it demeans the designers DWR sells. read more

This place is absolutely terrible prices are outrageous more than restoration hardware how in gods name do they think they could get a business plan that would make this work at those prices.... also very pushy and not friendly at all don't go here unless you want their hands in your bank account. So we ordered online and selected items that were "in stock". That was 6 weeks ago... finally got a notice that our order shipped but with no delivery estimate or tracking information. So I sent an email, place numerous calls to get an estimate. Finally got through after something like 45 minutes of hold music only to be told that they couldn't give me a shipping estimate but speculated that it would take 3 more weeks. I get there is a pandemic and all but this is really frustrating. Would never have ordered "in stock" from them had I known that we would miss 1/2 of summer awaiting a shipment. Lesson learned... will never do business with them again. Ordered other items from RH and had them a week later. Unacceptable especially at these inflated prices. read more

If I could leave a zero star review I would. We have had multiple problems with damaged furniture that Design Within Reach did not adequately replace. We bought a bed in Spring 2021 that arrived damaged. The store staff advised us to reject the entire bed, which we did. We then ended up with pieces of the bed. Now we have a used bed despite paying full price for a new bed, and the store still has not sent us the new bed that we paid for. They also sent us a broken bedside table that they are now refusing to replace because we were two weeks late in reporting the damage. Do not buy their furniture because you will be stuck in an endless cycle of broken, damaged furniture and poor customer service. We stared sharing what we were looking for and mid sentence the female sales person interrupted us to ask her coworker a question. Rude!!!! We will purchase our chairs somewhere else. I went to this store to return an item. The manager was really rude and unfriendly and send me away with the item because she has no storage space! On top of that I needed to pay re-stock fee and return shipping costs. I called DWR and they were not happy to hear about the customer service. They informed me that they will pick up the item at no charge. Very disappointed about the way how the manager Gail Bravos was dealing with a return and did not even do an attempt to help me out with this. read more

I walked in ready to buy another Herman Miller chair. We have 2 that we bought in the East Bay. No One even asked me if I needed help. I was very ignored by the sales people who where not doing anything. And the store was empty accept for me. After 29 minutes I left. And drove to another store and bought 2 chairs and am looking at a bedroom set. read more

Poor customer service. Stay away and visit one of the other stores or online. You will regret ever dealing with this store and/or manager.
