Jose was helpful every step of the way. The estimate was fair and the project did not stray from the original estimate. They passed every inspection without any issues and were clearly familiar with the permitting process in SF. They proactively identified issues with my new roof installation and replacement windows. Addressing these issues delayed the project, but ensured that the work they were doing wouldn't be compromised. There was also an area of damage that was not identifiable until the walls were torn down. Luckily, Jose had warned me ahead of time that this was possible, and the change order was reasonable. All the workers were respectful when entering my home and knowledgable in their craft. I asked many questions along the way and they took the time to help address any concerns I had. Thank you to Johnny and Zen who handled the carpentry work and Mariano and Benjamin who handled the painting! We have a three-story Victorian that needed the original brick foundation replaced, as the condition was very deteriorated and well past its useful life. Jim came out to assess the situation and wasn't intimidated at all. He is a straight shooter and tells it as it is, and our job was going to be a major one. I picked Jim because he truly knows his craft and enjoys what he does. Plus he doesn't sugarcoat the inevitable surprises that will arise (plus he has a wicked sense of humor and some great stories to share). We started in the middle of last Summer and finished right on schedule during early Fall. I will be the first to say that it was a huge capital investment to undertake: excavating, removing the original perimeter foundation and shoring up the massive structure, while ultimately putting rebar and pouring the new concrete. I was quite nervous about all of the things that could have gone wrong, but Jim communicated constantly throughout the process and made sure his men were on task and doing quality work. Mid-way through, we had a incident where the sprinklers were inadvertantly triggered overnight, causing water to flood into the trenches. Jim came out immediately with his men after they became aware of the situation (even though it happened on the Labor Day holiday) and personally went to work to shore up the beams that were supporting the house and checking and double-checking any structural weakness caused by the water. Because of his diligence and attentiveness, I honestly felt like we averted a major catastrophe. Jim treated our home with the care and attention he would have given had it been his own home. He has a penchant for finding creative solutions to deal with a host of unexpected problems, and through it all, he was punctual, steadfast and very thorough with his oversight, being on-site every day. We have now moved on to our next phase of the project, but without Jim Patterson & Co, we literally wouldn't have a solid foundation for which to proceed. My thanks to him and his team for the transformative work they did to our forever home.

Last summer Jim and his crew replaced our 130 yr old brick foundation. It was a huge job and we shopped it around, but Jim's estimate came in at the bottom end of the range. What really won us over, however, Jim's approach. He is old school and dedicated to the craft - you could just tell by the way he approached the bid and the conversations w/ the Engineer. And he did not disappoint. He showed up early every morning, had his crew in line and busy every moment of the working day. His guys respected him and all mentioned how much they learned working w/ Jim. I was pretty hands-on, crawling around and checking things. Jim helped me understand all of the parts of the process and how he was making key decisions. He was patient w/ my questions and often went the extra mile to keep me happy. For example, I needed to replace some drainage and he had his guys dig up the concrete on the side of the house to help me out (definitely NOT in the contract). There are also little personal touches that you can't pay for. When his crew found an antique bottle from the SF Dairy Company, Jim put it by the front door with a little note - he knew that this kind of thing would matter to us. Anyway, the job was done on budget and ahead of schedule with great communication throughout. Most importantly, Jim always worked with us to resolve any issues (real or perceived) that I came to him with over the course of the project. Five stars!!

They…read moreimpressed, whether it was with the handling of inspections and inspectors, the transparency with financials, or the simply trade itself, John Shaw and his team were always on top of our renovation. Professional, respectful, and highly communicative, he was always there whenever we needed him, by text, phone, or in person, if we needed reassurance, advice or progress reports he always seemed to be right on the ball. It's hard to communicate just how important this is to keep the blood pressure down while undertaking something as life altering as a major home renovation, but we always felt Fahan had it under control. Our project was completed on schedule, 7 months to do a new kitchen, master bath, staircase installation, family room and deck, plus electrical and lots of small detail work around the house. Seven months is really something considering how easily big renovations like ours can go off the rails. Horror stories abound, and we, quite literally, had none. What a huge relief. In terms of costs, Fahan was transparent and upfront with us. They estimated and invoiced all expected and unexpected costs up front, and clearly stated any potential overruns. There were some, but none that we felt were from left field, and for each one we were given options to keep in line with what we were comfortable with. We understood and signed off on everything before anything moved forward, with a comforting degree of transparency. The only downside we could see was that the pricing tended to be high. It's not entirely clear however if this was due to the current economic conditions of '22-'23 or if it's just what quality work and workmanship costs. But as they say, you get what you pay for. Overall, we felt well-taken care of throughout the process, like there was an insider who knew the business, the pitfalls and the tricks. "I trust them", were words we uttered more than once. Most of the time we weren't even at the house, only catching up on the progress on weekends, but we always knew that the work would get done and with little to no issues along the way. THe house turned out amazing. We really couldn't be happier with the work they did. Fahan's just a quality outfit, contractors and subs, that you should trust with your house too. Just top-shelf all the way. Two thumbs up.

All of these projects were completed on time and with superb quality. John was incredibly friendly, professional and responsive throughout the whole process. He was extremely thorough: from working with the architect to co-ordinating with all the inspectors, to introducing us to all the members on his team and what we could expect from them on a regular basis. He managed the whole project effectively by providing us with timely quotes, invoices and being diligent about addressing any follow up questions we had. If there were any unforeseen issues with the weather or supply chain issues, John kept us informed and worked around each of these issues while keeping the project on time. Every single day, his team would show up on time and work diligently while keeping us posted if they needed anything. When we wanted something updated or changed, they obliged us immediately. We took the entire house down to the studs and then moved and replaced all the studs. To say we were terrified is a complete understatement. We talked to several GC's, and were referred to Aaron Gordon by our architect. He stood out from the start, and there was really no question who we'd go with after meeting with him and running through his process. He broke down and explained every aspect of the project, and priced out the entire thing in advance. And this wasn't a rough ballpark quote like you get from most GCs, it was down to every detail. We were always in the loop on every aspect of the project. We had bi-weekly onsite check ins, and they provided weekly summaries of work completed and what was on the schedule for the coming week. We were never in the dark. Most importantly, I am happy to say now that the project is over, there were no surprises, and they finished on time and on budget (slightly below actually). That's quite an accomplishment considering the scope of work involved. Their quality is top notch, and the entire team is 100% professional. Not to mention they are just genuinely really good people. They would repeatedly go above and beyond what's expected. Just as one example (to which there are many), right when we moved in we tried to start garbage service through Recology and have bins sent to our house. Unfortunately Recology was hacked and their systems were down for weeks. We had nowhere to put our garbage, so the AGC team swung by several weeks in a row to literally pick up our personal garbage, just as a courtesy until we finally got bins sent to us. I could rattle off countless examples, but I just wanted to highlight the level of service they provide. I was flat out impressed at how they conducted themselves both professionally and personally. This whole thing could have been so stressful, but the team ensured it never got to that point. I dare say it was even enjoyable. It was amazing to watch our home transform knowing it was in good hands. I have zero hesitation recommending them to anyone starting a new project. It was an unfortunate discovery, but working with Aaron, Joro, Denis, and team made the whole process significantly less painful. We also elected to do some minor remodeling to the affected areas, and directly provided AGC with the design. They were extremely accommodating in this, and Joro, our project manager, provided a wealth of feedback and suggestions that we incorporated. We hired them largely based on their portfolio, and even got to tour one of their previous SF projects that was being prepped for sale. They definitely specialize in higher-end construction, but in the end we felt that both the structural and cosmetic work needed the attention to detail we felt AGC could provide.
