3 months after buying our first home--an apartment in SF--my fiance and I discovered a mold problem in three different areas in the floors underneath our 100-year-old steam radiators. Ugh. We needed new hardwood flooring (and a little bit of subfloor repair) to replace what our mold remediator had ripped out. I got quotes from Ciaran and two other contractors. Ciaran got me a quote a few hours after coming to the apartment, and his quote was considerably less expensive than those of the other contractors. (Before all the quotes had come through, I had assumed Ciaran's would be the most expensive because the remodels on the Edenavow website look so high caliber!) Ciaran was able to match the new hardwood flooring to our existing (maybe 100 year old??) hardwood flooring so well. We also ended up using Edenavow to add some shelving to our hall closet and install a new door to our guest room, too. Ciaran is so nice and communicative, and we're so pleased with the results. We interviewed 3 contractors and Ciaran was the last one... he came into our home was like freaking santa clause so damn excited about the remodel and had such great ideas (even though we had an architect/design team)! If I gave him just a hint of a thought, he turned it into a reality. "what do you think of this space, Ciaran.. "you know what? I'd knock this wall down create and arch and it would be gorgeous" ...and hot damn was it! Ciaran and his team built the most beautiful arches in my home, I'm waiting for arch digest to call me! Now onto the details...We gutted our kitchen (well the crew did not me..but I really wanted to and I think Ciaran would have let me), knocked down walls, moved bathrooms, made a master bath, updated electrical (that dang knob and tube) rerouted plumbing and HVAC and insulated and sheet rocked our garage. Want to hear the best part? We lived in the home while this was happening.. ok that's not really the ideal but we aren't swimming in cash. I was so nervous of the dust and the whatever's as we lived downstairs with 3 kids. Emergency rain damage to a balcony caused a leak into a renters apartment. Our stress level was through the roof. We reached out and Ciaran who saved the day by letting us borrow his dehumidifier and even sparing his crew to help us remove some damaged drywall. Having had a bad experience with our previous renovation, I would have laughed my head off if anyone ever mentioned "a stress-free renovation". But this was before I had Ciaran and his team from Edenavow Construction work on our kitchen and bathroom remodeling. We are so happy with them. Ciaran and his team are professional, friendly, respectful and reliable. They really made sure that all the work was top quality and completed within a reasonable time. I truly don't think that I've had a single unpleasant incident with them. That is not to say that there were no mishaps - there were a couple of minor things - but Ciaran and his team addressed them immediately. The crew always kept the site very clean and were very accommodating when we could not have any noise in the house (this was during pandemic with zoom meetings) When these guys said they were coming over, they would arrive on the dot (I still can't get over this!). Our house was a real fixer upper. After spending about a year and a half on the inside we decided to start on the outside. We knew we needed the fences repaired, but were toying with adding a deck and getting the house painted sometime later this year. Well, once we met Ciaran we decided to do all three at once and he took care of it all and more. We couldn't ask for better than Ciaran and his team. Ciaran met with us each morning to go over what was to be done for the day. He was always right on time and answered all of our questions. My family moved into a 3 story home in Presidio Heights last Fall. In order to accommodate all of us we needed to move some walls around and transform a laundry room into a bedroom by taking over some space from the adjacent garage and flipping the W/D set up to the other side of the wall, so it was in the garage and out of the new bedroom. Anyway, a relatively small job, but large enough to cause a huge headache for a busy family 4 kids if not done right and timely. Ciaran was referred by a friend who is a highly respected residential developer. He worked with my schedule to come in, review and contribute to plans and give a decent quote - not bargain basement but very fair. He himself found ways to cut some costs. Once we settled on a price and a very fast schedule for getting things done, he and his team got to work. He worked well with the architect and was accommodating of ancillary requests. We both kept our sides of the bargain - I made it a priority to keep paying Ciaran on time and he finished work on schedule. The end product is very good. I am a very satisfied customer, and I'd even add that he restored my faith a bit that there are good, honest contractors out there who take pride in their work. I thought Ciaran was a very nice man when I met him at the start, while at the end my opinion was completely reinforced and strengthened. Of the many good qualities Ciaran and his team demonstrate, is the willingness to stick to the scope and charge you what he tells you upfront. He's not a guy to underbid and then come back and "scope-creep". Ciaran has gone above and beyond for us. Ciaran's project estimate was 30% more than the other bids I received. I figured it would be worth it to work with him since he came recommended. We planned to start the project 8 weeks later and he was slow to send a contract. He kept promising to send the contract over and then never sent it. Soon it was 2 weeks until the project's scheduled start date and he still had not sent the contract. We had rented another house to live in for the duration of the remodel. Finally Ciaran sent the contract and he raised the prices 20% saying he made an error in the first estimate. So now he was 50% more than the next contractor. This put us in a really tough place since we had a rental that we couldn't change and it was very short notice to find another contractor. In the end, we decided to pay $13k to cancel our rental and pushed back the project so we could work with another contractor. My feeling is Ciaran committed to too many projects and didn't care if he lost the project. He is definitely gouging people in this crazy construction market. read more

In August of 2017 we made a great decision when we hired Ciaran Dowler and his team at Edenavow Construction to do a much needed renovation in our 100 year old condominium in San Francisco. The scope started out as a complete gut of the kitchen and bathroom. We had a designer from the cabinet supplier but no architect or CD's to work from. It was basically a design / build project which required the contractor to do a lot of the figuring out to solution the installation. From the beginning, Ciaran and his team were very professional and solution minded. They were dependable and followed through on all of his commitments, while delivering a high quality renovation. Throughout the project we threw lots of curveballs at Ciaran. We added a garden window, new entrance door, refinishing of floors, complete rewiring and new lighting, painting the entire condo top to bottom, and even insulating the ceiling. He took all of these scope changes in stride and never took advantage of us on the pricing. There are a lot of boats out there named "Change Order" for a reason but Ciaran is not one of those contractors. He was fair and reasonable with everything. Ciaran built our backyard fence about 10 years ago. With the recent heavy winter rains, we noticed the back fence which abuts our neighbor's house was sagging forward. I took photos and sent them to Ciaran. When there was a break in the rain, he sent Sandor over to fix the fence. Sandor replaced the rotten post and double-checked the stability of the other posts, and replaced some finials that had become detached. I told Ciaran that I was happy to pay for the repair, but he refused even though Sandor was there for several hours. It's not every day that you meet a person who stands by their work, even though that work was performed 10 years ago, but when you do, you have a duty to let others know. Forget about the need to micro manage Ciaran because you'll never have to. What you get is an extremely detailed oriented crew that's on top of everything. Even the clean up was more than you would expect from a contractor. I never saw tools or equipment laying around for days on end. What's more, Ciaran makes sure he's proactively checking in throughout the job to ensure that quality work is being done. He installed a beautiful fireplace, sound proofed my cieling and managed a fantastic job painting older looking shaker kitchen cabinets; making them look new and contemporary. These were advanced jobs that required somebody that really knew what he was doing- especially the fireplace renovation. I'm absolutely certain that any other contractor would still be working on everything. Edenavow makes renovation mentally manageable and thats huge. Edenavow has completed a complete remodel of my bathroom in a 1936 Avenues house and has almost completed a complete seismic retrofit of the basement/crawl space. All of the work from shoring and replacing a foundation in the basement to the finish carpentry in the bathroom has been excellent. They use the best materials from the structural lumber to the shower door. Between Ciaran Dowler and our designer, Jennifer Gregory we have a greatly improved house. They have had several excellent ideas, that we would not have thought of, which have added greatly to the value of the house. I highly recommend them. read more

We found Ciaran on Yelp. From the beginning you can tell that he's on top of his game. He's honest, hardworking and a great communicator. We had him install 2 sets of french doors, a shower/tub glass enclosure and a few other minor touch ups around the house. He finished as promised and was extremely pleasant to work with. Just an all around great guy and goes out of his way to make sure that you are happy with his work. My wife and I would highly recommend Ciaran and his crew. read more
