From the first time I…read morereached out to him, he was very patient and forthcoming with me, even offering advice and guidance with how best to get started with approaching the city, as well as assessing bids. We have a three-story Victorian that needed the original brick foundation replaced, as the condition was very deteriorated and well past its useful life. Jim came out to assess the situation and wasn't intimidated at all. He is a straight shooter and tells it as it is, and our job was going to be a major one. I picked Jim because he truly knows his craft and enjoys what he does. Plus he doesn't sugarcoat the inevitable surprises that will arise (plus he has a wicked sense of humor and some great stories to share). We started in the middle of last Summer and finished right on schedule during early Fall. I will be the first to say that it was a huge capital investment to undertake: excavating, removing the original perimeter foundation and shoring up the massive structure, while ultimately putting rebar and pouring the new concrete. I was quite nervous about all of the things that could have gone wrong, but Jim communicated constantly throughout the process and made sure his men were on task and doing quality work. Mid-way through, we had a incident where the sprinklers were inadvertantly triggered overnight, causing water to flood into the trenches. Jim came out immediately with his men after they became aware of the situation (even though it happened on the Labor Day holiday) and personally went to work to shore up the beams that were supporting the house and checking and double-checking any structural weakness caused by the water. Because of his diligence and attentiveness, I honestly felt like we averted a major catastrophe. Jim treated our home with the care and attention he would have given had it been his own home. He has a penchant for finding creative solutions to deal with a host of unexpected problems, and through it all, he was punctual, steadfast and very thorough with his oversight, being on-site every day. We have now moved on to our next phase of the project, but without Jim Patterson & Co, we literally wouldn't have a solid foundation for which to proceed. My thanks to him and his team for the transformative work they did to our forever home.

Last summer Jim and his crew replaced our 130 yr old brick foundation. It was a huge job and we shopped it around, but Jim's estimate came in at the bottom end of the range. What really won us over, however, Jim's approach. He is old school and dedicated to the craft - you could just tell by the way he approached the bid and the conversations w/ the Engineer. And he did not disappoint. He showed up early every morning, had his crew in line and busy every moment of the working day. His guys respected him and all mentioned how much they learned working w/ Jim. I was pretty hands-on, crawling around and checking things. Jim helped me understand all of the parts of the process and how he was making key decisions. He was patient w/ my questions and often went the extra mile to keep me happy. For example, I needed to replace some drainage and he had his guys dig up the concrete on the side of the house to help me out (definitely NOT in the contract). There are also little personal touches that you can't pay for. When his crew found an antique bottle from the SF Dairy Company, Jim put it by the front door with a little note - he knew that this kind of thing would matter to us. Anyway, the job was done on budget and ahead of schedule with great communication throughout. Most importantly, Jim always worked with us to resolve any issues (real or perceived) that I came to him with over the course of the project. Five stars!!

Fahan Construction, quite simply, did an incredible job. That's the long and short of it. They…read moreimpressed, whether it was with the handling of inspections and inspectors, the transparency with financials, or the simply trade itself, John Shaw and his team were always on top of our renovation. Professional, respectful, and highly communicative, he was always there whenever we needed him, by text, phone, or in person, if we needed reassurance, advice or progress reports he always seemed to be right on the ball. It's hard to communicate just how important this is to keep the blood pressure down while undertaking something as life altering as a major home renovation, but we always felt Fahan had it under control. Our project was completed on schedule, 7 months to do a new kitchen, master bath, staircase installation, family room and deck, plus electrical and lots of small detail work around the house. Seven months is really something considering how easily big renovations like ours can go off the rails. Horror stories abound, and we, quite literally, had none. What a huge relief. In terms of costs, Fahan was transparent and upfront with us. They estimated and invoiced all expected and unexpected costs up front, and clearly stated any potential overruns. There were some, but none that we felt were from left field, and for each one we were given options to keep in line with what we were comfortable with. We understood and signed off on everything before anything moved forward, with a comforting degree of transparency. The only downside we could see was that the pricing tended to be high. It's not entirely clear however if this was due to the current economic conditions of '22-'23 or if it's just what quality work and workmanship costs. But as they say, you get what you pay for. Overall, we felt well-taken care of throughout the process, like there was an insider who knew the business, the pitfalls and the tricks. "I trust them", were words we uttered more than once. Most of the time we weren't even at the house, only catching up on the progress on weekends, but we always knew that the work would get done and with little to no issues along the way. THe house turned out amazing. We really couldn't be happier with the work they did. Fahan's just a quality outfit, contractors and subs, that you should trust with your house too. Just top-shelf all the way. Two thumbs up.

We hired Fahan for a number of projects at our home in the Outer Sunset of San Francisco: building a new deck, extending power and plumbing to the back yard, replacing our leaky roof, providing access to the new deck from our bedroom and a number of other misc projects inside our home. All of these projects were completed on time and with superb quality. John was incredibly friendly, professional and responsive throughout the whole process. He was extremely thorough: from working with the architect to co-ordinating with all the inspectors, to introducing us to all the members on his team and what we could expect from them on a regular basis. He managed the whole project effectively by providing us with timely quotes, invoices and being diligent about addressing any follow up questions we had. If there were any unforeseen issues with the weather or supply chain issues, John kept us informed and worked around each of these issues while keeping the project on time. Every single day, his team would show up on time and work diligently while keeping us posted if they needed anything. When we wanted something updated or changed, they obliged us immediately. What was particularly impressive is that they pulled off a number of different projects working across 3-4 different groups of people! I will definitely miss them around our home. Eugene responded quickly and is easy to communicate with and eager to help. We ended up making a lot of changes as the we worked through each step. So it ended up costing more then originally anticipated but Eugene was always helpful and willing to execute all the change orders. Also he was very fair on the pricing of all the change orders. We will be using Rebase Building again for our upstairs bathroom and master suite. For now we are enjoying our new kitchen and bathroom!

Dennis' bid was significantly less than two others, and when I asked him about this later, after he had finished the job, he said it's because they work quickly and efficiently and don't drag things out. That was definitely the case! They replaced and/or relocated all of the plumbing fixtures, tiled the walls and floor, installed new lights and medicine cabinet, relocated and replaced a window, built a custom window surround and a matching decorative niche. Dennis worked closely with me to figure out dimensions and alignments so I would get the results I wanted (I am an architect, so admit that I'm picky). The project was completed according to budget and faster than I could have hoped. I highly recommend Dennis and his team, and I hope he will do my kitchen when I finally get around to it!

Dennis had his crew repair a rotted sill in my basemt. i think they did a good job on that, but…read morethey had to jack out some concrete to get to it. Dennis asked me twice whether i wanted the concrete repaired. I told him yes, twice. But then he just left it. When I got my house appraised for refi a couple yrs later, the appraiser thought it was earthquake damage, and it reduced the appraisal. So then I asked Cole Hardware for a different recommendation -- which guys were even worse. And then I heard Dennis was angry with them for not recommending him again. And again, Cole requires a fee from contractors for recommendations, and does not actually vet their work.
