We know David Mitchell through our parents and we have experienced high quality work from his company. He is honest, hard working and punctual. Dave is very good and reliable when we needed our basement foundation (sister joists) refitted, 3rd story washer and dryer closet-space reconstructed with electric/plumbing installation, external front doors re-hung, internal stairs rebuilt and 4-story back stairs repaired. Deanna, his office manager is right on the ball, overseeing the day-to-day communication, organization and coordination that made the projects run on time. Both David and Deanna have given us good referrals on architectural engineers, plumbers, painters and electricians that made sure that every project is up to SF city codes. David always made sure to clean on-site thoroughly by the end of the day and kept the promised time-frame in check for all the jobs he took on in the past 3 years. He has a keen eye for work detail and gives sound advice (or calls in evaluation from the experts for fields outside his area of expertise) before he works on any of our projects. Deanna and Dave is currently working on finding affordable glass French doors for the kitchen to match the ones in the living room, as well as re-install new custom-sized Milgard windows in the dining room. I am impressed with Dave Mitchell. We had a major leak in the shower. Dave tells you upfront what he intends to do and how much that will cost. At each stage, Dave told us what the implications and cost were. My feeling is that his costs are below average for SF. He came back after the repair to fix a minor problem without complaint. So, Dave Mitchell was referred to us while we were in the middle of a basement remodel a few years ago. We were using a local San Francisco construction company which was f***ing us over in various ways and we wanted nothing more than to severe our relationship from this company and move on. We were introduced to Dave but were gun shy at that point and really didn't trust anybody...but we had a half finished project and had to move on. Dave completed the project and it isn't a stretch to say that he greatly help restore our faith. Dave is methodical, conscientious, quality-oriented, and highly skilled. He sets the bar high for himself as well as the subcontractors he'll bring in to the project. We recently rehired him to install a large wood/glass door and transom at the top of the stairs in our home. The project was structurally slightly complicated and we needed a custom door built. Dave brought the owner of Golden Gate Doors and Windows (also a great company) to our home so we could all discuss together what was needed. The finished result is awesome. That's an example of the way in which Dave works. We've learned the best you can hope for in the expensive world of home construction projects is that you get quality results for the money spent and you're able to trust those doing the work. Construction is a dodgy old game, where goalposts get shoved around with regards to estimates versus real costs, and the quality of work provided. True Line, and David Mitchell, are an honest honest honest, no BS business with truly artisanal skills as well as outstanding fundamentals. For us it was expanding our bathroom storage with new shelving and cabinetry; a small job for sure, but we were treated with enormous respect, the estimates on time and $$ to do the job were spot-on AND it was damn fine work. I actually enjoyed inter-acting with a contractor! Unbelievable. Put it this way, if I had the money to redo a home, I'd hire him in a heartbeat, but as it stands, I know he will always do great work on even the smaller jobs. Top drawer! read more

I can't say enough good things about True Line Construction. They did a remodel on my home and from start to finish were professional and personal. Dave was never late for any appointment we made. They are absolutely organized in all aspects of the remodel process and Deanna who manages the billing is top notch. I was so thankful that Dave went the extra mile in so many situations to help me create my dream home. He went above and beyond to research various things that would "fit" with my particular esthetic and design but were out of the normal contractors responsibilities. I was looking around for someone to help with odds-and-ends type of stuff at our house... someone to help put together my daughter's loft bed, to fix one of our doors that was off the hinges, to fix the railing on our banister... that sort of thing. Looked around, found True Line and gave them a call. Wow! They were responsive, honest, fast, and affordable. The work was outstanding and Dave was super-cool. Dave Mitchell/True Line Construction just finished an extensive bathroom/closet remodel for us, and we love it. Dave came recommended, and I would not hesitate to do the same and recommend him to others. We received three quotes for our job. Dave's wasn't the cheapest but it was the most detailed, which meant that it probably was the cheapest in the end, as there was no discrepancy about what was/wasn't being done. As Dave progressed through the job and ran into unexpected situations, he was quick to notify us. Not only did he explain issues in detail, he always had several solution to offer, along with the pros/cons of each. We have heard many horror stories about contractors walking away at the end of a job, but with Dave, we experienced the opposite. He made himself available in the weeks following the completion of the job in order to make minor fixes. Dave Mitchell, of True Line Construction, recently finished building a porch with stairs in my backyard, installed a new back door to my garden, and built custom bookshelfs in my living room. Originally, we had hired Dave to build the porch and replace a door. But after Dave started work on the porch we came to admire his craftsmanship and attention to detail. My wife decided to ask Dave if he could help build her some bookshelfs that she had long wanted to have in our living room. My wife gave him a conceptual idea of what she wanted. We ended up with something that was not only aesthetically pleasing but exceeded expectations. I think we talk more about the bookshelfs than the redwood porch! We had Dave Mitchell of True Line Construction do two medium-sized remodeling jobs: one to remove our bedroom wall to replace it with sliding doors opening on to the garden, and replace rotting and leaking wooden frames for ceiling to floor windows on two floors, as well as replacing rotted joists and studs. The second job was to remove the ugly vinyl siding we endured for 15 years with Harvey board, after insulating the outer wall, and to construct a 50 ft long drainage ditch to divert hillside groundwater from our ancient & inadequate brick & mortar house foundation. Dave is as honest and hardworking as anyone could possibly be, as well as skilled and experienced. Many times he carefully thought through extremely complex carpentry solutions made more difficult by our poorly constructed Victorian structure which had settled and lisped downhill. He was always perfectly clear about why he recommended a particular material or solution, but was also very cost conscious and attentive to our limited budget. The subcontractors that he choose to work on our projects (e.g. electricians, plumbers) were also excellent, and when we needed an architect for aspects of the job, he worked well with her as well. Dave is one of the sweetest, and easiest people to get along with; just an all-around decent person. We wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. read more
