A friend was coming to town and she is a good shopper so I did some research and came up with a variety of consignment stores to visit. Well, the first was Design + and that was all I needed. The minute we walked into the store, Raul, the manager, greeted us and made us feel welcome without any "pressure." He was right there to help but never intrusive. And when I found some pieces I wanted to purchase, he was efficient and friendly AND he recommended one of the best movers I have ever experienced. Got an exquisite (!!) reclaimed wood end table and coffee table. I knew I loved the pieces, but wasn't sure if it would flow well at the house. They let me take the furniture for a 24-hour review period without obligation to purchase. Less than three hours later, SOLD! They got the sale because of that policy--I would have otherwise remained on the fence. Two guests have already commented on how beautiful the pieces are. I've had a good experience with this store. They sold a sofa and a lamp for me and I was surprised at how quickly the items sold! I got a receipt and a check in the mail right away. The store is decorated in an attractive fashion, which is challenging if your merchandise changes continually. I've found the staff pleasant to deal with. read more

We had some nice furniture from Crate & Barrel and Restoration Hardware that we wanted to sell after remodeling our home. We realized our old furniture was too large for the space and bought smaller furniture from the same vendors. We paid a lot of money for the original furniture and didn't want to give it away. Craig's list did not bring us for whatever reason any prospective buyers, neither did Nextdoor Soma. I discovered Design Plus through Yelp and talked to Raul who was super helpful. I sent him pictures of the furniture and he recommended a mover, Jacky, who was incredibly meticulous and reasonable. I purchased eight spectacular Antique English Chippendale chairs from Design Plus in pristine condition. This is the best consignment store that I have ever stepped into! I viewed the chairs online and when I arrived I was overwhelmed with all of the exquisite furniture that consigners had entrusted to this store. I recommend that if you see something you like purchase it right away as things sell quickly! I was eying a corner chair when I arrived the first day and when I came back less than 24 hours later someone else had already purchased it. I've consigned with several stores over three decades and this is the first store that I've received checks that are worthwhile. This is a review for their consignment function. I was having the hardest time selling some pretty nice stuff on craigslist. I was about to give up, then I learned about these guys. I took over two pieces to have them sell for me. The staff was super friendly, helpful, explained the whole process to me, as I had never done consignment before. I thought their terms were very fair and the prices they chose to tag the items at was a good price (more than I was asking on CL, by the way). The nice thing I like about the arrangement is you just sit and wait. No need to call and check in or worry. Sure enough, a few weeks later a check comes, one of my pieces sold for more than they had estimated. Hopefully the other one will go soon as well. I have complete confidence that it will, and if they have a hard time, they will call me and make some other arrangements. It is obvious that they care about customer service and know that building good relationships helps build a solid business. Consignment or "antique" furniture has become very popular, and as a result there are many shops that open up but the quality of them varies dramatically. Often times you enter into one of these stores and it looks much more like a garage sale than a furniture gallery. We have already purchased a chandelier, designer chairs, and a unique coffee table as part of some remodel work that we are doing and the quality of the pieces from Design Plus has been great. Their inventory is constantly changing, they have a great aesthetic and thus selection, and prices are reasonable. They should be at the top of the list if you are looking for quality designer furniture but not interested in paying designer prices. read more

I have been to both the SF and the San Rafael stores. Both have great selections and the inventory is always changing and something new is there. In addition, the Design+ team are great. Greg and Raul both are great, very helpful and their 'wishlist' feature on their website is a great way to have them looking for that special piece. I also didn't feel like the store was a consignment store. Everything is in very good or like new condition. I recently bought a great solid teak wood media table/console table at a super price. I love this place, I think it's such a gem in the middle of SoMa where every other furniture store is damn right out of their minds with the prices. I recently purchased my Crate & Barrel sleeper sofa from here after buying the worst Ikea couch ever.
