While the items may be a bit on the pricy side, you're definitely paying for good quality Indian food. The saag and tikka masala are especially good (and mild) and the vindaloo is great for the daring spice eater. And always ALWAYS get some naan to dip in all the leftover curries, sauces, etc. If you're in Bushwick and you're carving Indian, this is the place to go. However, if you're not dining in, then you should stop on by to place your take out order in person. Good neighborhood spot when you're craving Indian food. I've ordered from here for some time now. Their lamb vindaloo is a little spicy, not overwhelming, but I'm sure you can request them to up their chili game if you prefer it that way. Their lamb saag is also really good and the spinach curry is not the creamy kind at other restaurants. Their chicken tikka masala is creamy with chunks of chicken. Their naan is fluffy and buttery. My only complaint was my chicken samosa had raw chicken in it. I called and they immediately sent the delivery guy back to bring me a replacement, which luckily did have cooked chicken. I can't think of another Indian restaurant in the neighborhood... which isn't so bad because this one suffices. read more

Came here for dinner on New Year's Eve with the bf and 2 friends. I believe I've actually ordered delivery from here a few times in the past, but this was my first time actually dining in. It wasn't too busy when we had gone in, and it's overall a pretty standard Indian place. On NYE, they had a 3 course prix-fixe menu for only $19 a person. I got a samosa for my starter, the paneer saag for my entree, and gulab jamun for my dessert. The food was nothing spectacular, and the service was a little on the slow side, though it was very friendly. This place is BYOB, though, which was a little unexpected for us, and overall did improve our dining experience. I'd want to come back here to try other dishes in house, and of course, to bring a bottle to have said dishes with. read more

I used to love Desi Grill and found it to be a little gem in Bushwick where there aren't many options for Indian food. Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago I went to go pick up my food and noticed from outside that a driver walking around the restaurant wasn't wearing a mask (yikes). I was a little weirded out, but walked in anyway. The host/manager is laying down in a booth with his feet up, also not wearing a mask (gross) and I tell him I'm picking up a chicken tikka masala (basic but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). He then gets up and walks behind the counter and swings open the kitchen door to ask about my food. As the door is open, I noticed that no one in the kitchen was wearing a mask either!! At this point I asked him "Does no one wear a mask around here?!" and pointed out that I hadn't seen anyone masked. He seemed confused and went back to the kitchen and yelled at everyone about masks while still unmasked himself. I then told them to keep my food because I didn't order a side of COVID. The papadum was perfectly crisp and the paneer makahani had just the right amount of spice (I asked for mine medium) with wonderful texture and bite to the cheese cubes. The food is terrible here....not authentic at all!! My friend and I ordered vegetable samosas, aloo gobi and chicken tikka masala. The tikka masala tasted different so I asked the waitress if there was ketchup in the dish and she said yes (as well as other spices). I felt like I was eating chicken with ketchup over rice. They even charged us for each condiment (onion chutney and sauces) which is never the case at other Indian restaurants I frequent like Aaheli Indian Cuisine, Indian Taj, Jackson Hole. I've ordered delivery from here a bunch of times. The food is so so good and the portion sizes are not skimpy. The chicken tikka masala doesn't contain nuts, which is awesome (I have a nut allergy). The samosa chaat is so good and only $5!!! Sometimes you'll find whole cardamon pods and other spices in their rice, which is a great sign that they definitely don't skimp on flavor! And a lot of their dishes come topped with fresh herbs, it's those little additions that really show the quality and freshness of their dishes. I have been complaining about the gentrification of Bushwick since I liked the neighborhood the way it used to be 15 years ago. However, there is one addition that I absolutely adore is this outstanding restaurant that serves the most delectable Indian dishes. I cannot count how many times we have ordered from them and every time we are taken by the delicious flavors of their cuisine. Desi Grill is in my opinion the best Indian restaurant in Brooklyn, absolutely amazing! Nans cooked with so much care, exquisite salads and by far my favorite Chicken Tikka Marsala..an absolute must! I usually wait till I've eaten at a place a few times before I give it a review. On Halloween I was feeling blue and missing my Uncle. He had introduced many cuisines to me but Indian was his favorite. So I decided to stream a horror flick and get indian in his memory. I knew nothing about Desi Grill. It seemed close enough they might deliver. I'm so happy they did. I used Seamless to order. I recvd updates via seamless and directly from the restaurant. They confirmed seamless estimated delivery time... and then they showed up on the dot and followed the included delivery instructions. I ordered for my husband and I , the (2)vegetable & the (2) chicken samosas. They were huge. I needed to reheat them a bit. But I live a distance, to me this was fine. Everything else was "flown to the sun" hot. Also ordered Saag w chickpea. Delicious! 2 orders of Tandoori chicken. It was half a chicken each, not just legs. Loved it! Smokey, well marinated, juicy. Got a little bit crazy couldn't decide between Rohan Josh (lamb) or Chicken Tikka Masala... ordered them Both. The Rogan Josh had plenty of lamb that was nicely trimmed meaning no fat, no grizzle, no bones.The sauce was excellent not just some doctored brown gravy like some places. The chicken tikka was some of the best I've ever had. The food came in round leak proof plastic containers. Basmati rice came in a pint clear plastic container. I was pleased to see it wasn't mixed into the entrees. I ordered 2 rosemary Naan. It comes cut in half I cut it again and gave it a warm up in the oven. There were a lot of leftovers and we had lunch and another dinner out of all of it. I looked forward to ordering from them again. Someday maybe even eating there. They did not include a paper menu with our order. I wish they had, but oh well. Looking forward to trying the Vindaloo and Aloo Gobi next time. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Yeah....no. Here me loud and clear, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, the owner is terribly petty. You can see a picture of the food that I received in the picture section. As an avid eater of Indian food, this stuff was.. eh.. Tastes like there's lots of fillers in order to stretch the amount of food. I ordered from these guys late at night.. I might've been one of their last orders.. I ordered on grub hub, and ordered a chicken dish, naan, and a 2 liter bottle of "sparkling "water. The seltzer was $4.00. Altogether, I end up paying in the $20.00 area. The food arrives, and when I open the bag, there are two small 8 oz cans of seltzer (which generally sell for $1.00), not the $4.00 2 liter bottle that I ordered, and when I open the container to my chicken dish, there is such a small amount of chicken in a small amount of sauce - this is my $10.00 plus dish. I call after 10pm (since this is when I received the food) a man, seemingly the owner, says that if I call and order another day, he will see to it that I receive complimentary food and the 2-liter bottle of water that was ordered. I asked him if he wanted my name, and he replied that he wouldn't need it, he will remember me. So the next time that I order, of course, he doesn't remember me! A young person answers the phone and proceeds to grill me and disagree with almost everything that I tell them, basically assuming that I am trying to get a free meal that I do not deserve. Finally, the owner / manager gets on the phone, and tells me that I will need to make a brand new order on grub hub (so that he can get more money out of me), and if I mention there that I didn't get the food and items that I should have gotten last time, they will include it in this order. I tell him, that this is not what he said the night before. This is where things begin to piss me off. The manager tells me that he is too busy right now to take my order, because they are dealing with "customers." Well, am I not a customer, whose order you messed up?!?! He tells me that he can no longer talk to me further, to call another night, and puts the young person back on the phone. The young person then hangs up, and does not pick up the phone again. When I finally reach them again (I was feeling determined), I was put on the hold several times for long periods. This all takes close to one hour, I kid you not, they were not going to send me anything, and were fine to rip me off. I finally told the young person to tell the owner that I would not be calling back, that it was my intention to call grubhub and write a report on yelp... This is when he says that they will send me the complimentary food that he promised previously. As my order is being taken by the young person, the owner must be nearby, because when I say that I will try a shrimp dish that costs the same price as the chicken dish that I ordered the night before, he tells the kid that I am not allowed, that I will have to order another chicken dish. Here's the real petty part: when explaining to the manager/ owner that there was so little food, that I could count the amount of small chicken pieces on the bottom of the bowl with very little sauce, he remembered the exact number of pieces that I mentioned. When the delivery person came, I smiled, offered a tip, and he responded by telling me that he had a message from the owner. ***** THE MANAGER HAD WRITTEN IN BLACK MARKER HOW MUCH MY TIP NEEDED TO BE! The number written matched the number of pieces of chicken that I told him were in the first order." Additionally, I go to open the bowl, he has put exactly the same number of chicken pieces in the dish... I suppose the number thing was his way of sticking it to me.. (Shaking my head). I never got my $4.00 2-liter bottle of "sparkling" water. Here's a clue, if you are so unable to accommodate your customers, or you are so petty that you cannot fix a mistake that you obviously made, you are in the wrong business. If there is mistake, just fix it, and you're done! I'm a fairly understanding person, but I don't appreciate being treated like my patronage is not respected. It's unfortunate, because I love Indian food, and it is very close, but I will never order from here again. And I do not recommend this place to anyone else until they get their act together. We told him we would go outside and he wasn't there, so we called back and he again just kept saying "food delivery?". Evidently has no grasp of English. Clear instructions that delivery was to be to room 1; did not even enter hotel and try to deliver. only discovered this when we called the restaurant and were told over the phone 45 minutes later. Woman on the phone seemed clueless. Was unhelpful and based on some of the comments by other people the food would have been lame even if it did arrive. Do not order. Company lacks any basic common sense (to levels of idiocy) or sense of decency. read more

I will caveat this review by saying that my roommates and I are Indian. It's incredibly frustrating to order Indian food and be this let down. Our expectations are generally pretty low- if we order Indian and its even 60% close to being authentic, its a win for us. We're really not sure how the food we received this evening even qualifies as being Indian. The Dhal Tadka was flavorless. I don't really know what to say beyond that. It made hospital food sound like a treat. Bindhi Masala was fine. It was the redeeming dish in the order and what earned the one star. (The other star was awarded for the speed of delivery- which is generous considering curry had leaked all over the place) But the pièce de résistance was the Veg. Makhni. Tomato paste is a base of many Indian dishes. However, it seems whoever is cooking the food here feels Heinz Tomato Ketchup is a viable substitute with about 3 spoons of sugar to boot. I really don't think ever I've eaten a curry and felt the onset of type 2 diabetes with such immediacy. Obviously I've only just chucked the rest of the meal in the bin and I'm incredibly annoyed, having between the 3 of us, wasted $75 on the meal. What really angers me though is that this is being sold as Indian food! Its insulting to a cuisine with the rich history and assortment of flavors Indian food in known for. read more

I used to love this place until the waiter tried to scam us for our money. We come here for lunch special EVERY TIME and he knows that. Today, I went and wanted to substitute rice for raita (homemade yogurt sauce). I changed my mind BEFORE ordering. He asked if I wanted my food "regular". I agreed, meaning that I want the meat and rice because that's the norm - not with the raita. All of a sudden he charges us for the dinner rate during lunch special hours and claims that I asked for it because I agreed to the "regular". The regular for me is the lamb shahi korma lunch special which I get every SINGLE time - which he also knows. The food is amazing. It's just unfortunate that I will never return. When you go be very careful with what you order! The waiter will not educate you on the lunch specials when serving you and try to upsell you in a sneaky and dishonorable manner. read more

My experience is strictly with their food as it was delivered to my door and I had no face-to-face interaction with whoever runs that place. The food was a disappointment. When I lived in the city, walking north on Lexignton Avenue led me to a an assortment of Indian restaurants, one which became my go-to. For about $9, I could get an appetizer, chicken tikka masala, 2 sides, and complimentary naan that would last me 2 days. That order is my usual, so that's what I had at Desi Grill...and paid $20 for. The chicken was dark meat (I completely agree with Amanda M's review below) and unchewable. "I wouldn't even give it to my dog," I thought and I don't even HAVE a dog! All I had left is a mediocre naan, ok rice, and some sauce. For twenty hard earned dollars! Ok, ok, I know It's a hyperbole, but if you are tired of pizza or spanish food or chinese or hipster-americano or pizza or spanish food or chinese, its nice to FINALLY have a decently priced option for something different. I got lamb, which was tender, and flavorful. The rice, wow!! so good. A little bit of green, that tasted fresh as well. The service and ambiance needs a bit of work though. Thank god I got take out. the place was SILENT. No Music, no AC or Fan noise, just SILENCE. I was greeted with a confused look followed by a "No" when I told the host I was there to pick up a seamless order. After assuring him that I had indeed ordered, he went back to the kitchen and told me my order was in the works. I was afraid they had forgotten or something, but it was just the host, 2 minutes later I had my food. The food is worth it. I love this place for samosas, mulligatawny soup, Chana masala and their naan! Tried their veg biryani, felt a little over cooked, I wish they removed their fragrant inedible spices like clove, peppercorn, cardamom pods and cinnamon sticks before serving, and wished it was a little lighter and fluffier, less oil. Great location-right next to the Jefferson L train stop. Divey, cozy atmosphere. BYOB, which I loved. Our server was super friendly and opened our bottle of wine for us. The food was perfect-not too salty or oily, and full of flavor. My Dal Tadka was a generous portion, and the perfect consistency. Amazing with the unlimited rice provided. I had a bite of my friends Aloo Gobi which was very spicy and delicious. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options here, all around $11 for entree size. I look forward to returning. read more
