So I ordered here yesterday, a few years after my last encounter, by complete accident, if I'm being honest. Last time, I went in person; this time, I ordered for delivery, and Desi Grill had very good reviews on DoorDash. Fortunately, my experience this time was a bit better than last time. The naan was definitely better. Unfortunately, their chicken tikka masala was very bland to me, which I guess I can understand if they're catering to a mostly non-spice-tolerant neighborhood, but I feel like it would be significantly better if they at least offered spice levels so people could choose to add more flavor if they need. Positives: the food arrived hot and pretty quickly. There wasn't a delivery fee. The price was not as steep as some other restaurants. The chicken tikka masala was also not sickly sweet, like I've caught some other places out here making it. It was not *bad*; for me, it was just missing the flavor that even the jar of chicken tikka masala sauce from Target has. read more

Been here a few times now so I wanted to wait to make a review until after I have tried a few things. The vegetable makhani was very good 10/10 which is why I continued to go back. The naan is also good but I feel the naan is overpriced almost $5 for a naan is insanity if you ask me. The aloo Gobi was mid not much flavor to it as well as the Channa Masala. The lamb biriani was flavorful but could have used some yogurt sauce. Definitely a good experience so I'll be back to try a few more things. read more

I came here because I wanted samosas. I got 2 vegetable samosas and 2 chicken samosas. This was 10 total. They were amazing. They were full of the filling and really tasty. Came here because a friend kept recommending the samosas to me. So I ordered the chicken and vegetable samosa. I also ordered the samosa chat. The samosas were $5 for two. The samosa chat was $7. It was my first time having samosa chat and I was surprised at what I got. The best way I can describe it is Indian vegetable nachos. Instead of tortillas it was the samosa. It was really good and actually surprised me. I wish the samosa was crunchier but I loved it. The samosas came out hot and sauces were provided for us. The samosa are good and for the size and price, no complaints from me. I will say I've had better vegetable samosas though. I don't think I'd get it again. I'd happily get the chicken samosa anytime though. All in all, this place was great. I plan to come back here in the future and try something else. read more

I hate to give a poor review. The food was not good. I felt a bit ill 2 hours later. The naan tasted store bought. The lamb had a fair bit of grizzle, if it was stewed longer maybe it would have melted down a bit. The pakoras were made in advance and super greasy after being refried. It took forever to get our bill, I had to knock on the kitchen door to get someone's attention. Maybe they just had a bad night. But I will never return again. We actually dined in here on Friday night and the experience was okay. I think dining in still feels a little strange and plus it is a pretty small restaurant. The food was really good though! We ordered a chicken tikka masala, sag paneer, chana masala, mango latsi, and garlic naan. My favorite was actually the chana masala its the best one I've had. It has a kick to it. UPDATE: 2019 Unexpectedly came back to this place, not remembering if it was the same one till I read my prior review. They may have had a change of owner/ or policy since it looked slightly different and there is now a lunch special. That lunch special is half the price of most other places! The good the Pluses: The food was of very high quality and it came very fast. I was sufficiently pleased to come a second time, I may even come again. Minuses: I had to ask if there was a lunch special. It is not listed in their in store menu. I had two different kinds of lamb curries on my separate visits, but though very different ingredients were listed they tasted very similar and though I asked on the second visit it be spicier, it really didn't taste spicier, To me that made the food "compromised" for Indian food, on the bland side for Indian food. If you are not a fan of spicy, you may prefer a place as this. For those who have tried a lot of Indian: Good lunch deal, but on the high end price wise comparable to other places at other times of day. The mulitwagny soup (whose taste varies wildly depending on the place you go) is on the tart side, something I would not order again here. read more

Look, this place is actually a two star. The only and I mean ONLY reason they get the third star is because the guy at the counter was super chill and gave me a free bottle of water while I waited for my to-go order. Now then--the real problems with this place: they neglected to give me my rice!! I can't go back and get the rice. This is genuinely gut-wrenching news!! And on top of that, the boneless chicken is tough and the portion was small. The gravy is good, but the meat's tough! Not a winning combination. I hope this can be made right somehow. read more

UPDATE from over 3 years ago. My friend and I dashed in Desi after a great show down the street and he and I could not stop raving about how great the food was. Throughout the menu they've made it clear that they use fresh seafood and indeed they do. The shrimp in my shrimp vindaloo were head on - gotta be fresh. I, we will definitely eat here again. The funny thing is, I told my friend about such a terrible experience I had with an Indian restaurant that clearly was not cooking fresh seafood. I go on Yelp to write a great review for Desi and behold this was the restaurant I had reviewed. Let me say this, the food was absolutely delicious!! DISAPPOINTED!! So we've ordered from here a couple of times without any real problems but this time was just unacceptable. First, our order was delayed by 1.5 hours. We contact the restaurant and they tell us that the delivery bike broke down and they were preparing new food. Not once did they contact us to advise us of the delay. Then when the food arrives 1 hour later - it's clearly "recooked" food. We ordered shrimp curry and salmon curry. The shrimp were hard like steak, signifying that they were over cooked. The salmon, was also hard and tasted like old bad fish, signifying that the fish was both old and over cooked. We contacted the restaurant and was informed that the cook was gone and to call back tomorrow evening for another delivery. HONESTLY, this food was SO TERRIBLE that we're apprehensive about ever getting food from here again. read more

I am a big fan of Desi Grill. It has become one of my go-tos. The food is solid and the service is quick and efficient. I've seen several reviews here about the price being high, I find the price to be generally in tune with similarly located Indian restaurants, however, and I think the prices are competitive and reasonable. Currently they offer dining outside, in addition to takeout and delivery. One thing I dislike, a minor complaint and a warning to customers that will be dining at the restaurant or picking up takeout: if one is paying with card, they will run the card and the receipt to sign for it offers to opportunity to add a tip. They simply write on the receipt "cash..." I asked if they could break a larger bill I had and they said no. I found this to be a little strange and a bit of a nuisance. That said: come prepared with a bit of cash for tipping if you are paying with card. read more

It was during the pandemic - none of the staff had masks on. At some point a chef comes out of the kitchen and coughs in his hands. No masks. There was no soap or hand sanitizer in the bathroom. Apart from that, the restaurant owner (I think) was all the time on the phone, having a loud argument with one of his delivery or waiting staff, being rude and demeaning, shouting at them for that they couldn't come to work. When he served the food, he forgot to bring the utensils. When I asked for it, he came with a "what do you want from me" attitude and brought us four knives and one spoon in a clenched fist, dropping it in the middle of the table. As we saw the chef leave the kitchen and cough, we decided against eating there and asked for the bill. As we were waiting for food, I asked for water. The restaurant owner brought it and charged us $2. It's normal that when you ask for water, you get tap water so I was surprised to see that on the bill - I asked him about it and he laughed at me asking if I think things are free. Really rude!
