This place is the bomb. I might be partial because it is less than a block from my apt and therefore so satisfying to go to...but it really has everything I'm looking for in a restaurant. Not being a millionaire, I certainly appreciate the price point, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is calming, cozy and almost romantic. Terrible Chicken Tikka Masala, they used brown chicken meat, nasty and chewy, absolutely no taste whatsoever and of course is the cheapest way of making the dish. Bought some somozas and they were absolutely horrendous, I ended up throwing all the food away. I kept biting into whole pieces of spices, not a very good representation of Indian food. I've been here enough times to confirm. It's true, you order a coke and it comes to you HOT. No ice, no straw. The vegetarian dishes are fine, though the Chana Masala was topped with HEAPS of raw red onion, which I dislike. No mention about this garnish on the menu. What if I was allergic, hmm? There were times when I went to pickup food and after 25 minutes lapsed, it was STILL not ready. 10 minutes later, nothing. Straight up attitude when asked about the status. pfft. I was once charged an additional $2 in the restaurant from what their online menu stated for one of the dishes. Cashier said "You're wrong, that's never been our price." I still had their menu window open in Safari so I showed her and said.."this is your restaurant's website. See your logo? Your menu? Now tell me again how I am wrong." She then changed her tune, SIGHED, and said "we changed our price, it's more for the containers if you're carrying out." I live about a block away and eat here at least once a week. It's my go-to place for dinner in Bushwick. Definitely my favorite Indian food in North Brooklyn. The mattar paneer is great but I've liked everything I had. The butter chicken is really delicious as well. The staff is always very nice and service is very good. I also recommend the peshwari naan. Chicken Tiki Masala more like grey rubberized non breast meat Tiki Masala. It was such a let down ordered tonight and spent 40 dollars on vats of curry with very little meat. I don't know if they are aware of what constitutes as "breast" meat. The Paneer had no cheese again mostly a vat of sauce. The only thing that was good was the rice, so they get one star for that. This is delicious cheap food in New York! Ordered the Preshawri naan and aloo gobi lunch special. Came with an extra naan and genial service. The naan was soft, fluffy, and chewy with equal parts sweet and savory. The Aloo Gobi had thick cuts of cauliflower and potato and was spiced perfectly. It's also BYOB. Sign me up! read more

I rarely take the time to leave bad reviews, but, because I just looked at a bank statement to see I was OVERCHARGED for my meal on my credit card, I decided to make time. This place when it first opened was amazing: good food, great service. Since its opening it's gone down hill fast. The food is still good, but, the service is horrendous, and, they take liberties with changing pricing on a whim. According to my receipt from March 10, 2019 -- I authorized 57.59 on my credit card. But, my bank says I paid 77.59. So, my teenage, untrained, out-to-lunch waitress, who had to be asked for something as simply as water several times, who would yell across the room at the other waitress, who belted out songs while on the dining floor--decided she needed a 20.00 tip? Last time I checked that's called stealing. Never again will I go to this establishment. They have children running the front of the house. Children who know nothing about waiting tables, or, customer service. I may be contacting my bank about this obvious fraud. But, I would advise staying away from this place. You can get great Indian food anywhere, along with great service. This place has bad karma waiting for it. read more

We stumbled across this place one Saturday evening and thought we would give it a try. We are from London and were a little dubious as we had heard that Indian food in New York isn't great, but this place definitely proves that isn't the case. We had a great meal, which was delicious and really reasonably priced. Lots of delicious vegetarian options and the service could not have been better - they even turned down the AC when we said that it was a bit cold! Desi Grill has quickly become a favorite. I was just there last night with a friend and I am sad to say they disappointed me. The food was still reliably tasty. I just have very high standards for customer service. We ordered and were very excited when our food arrived. About 10 minutes in our waiter came by to check on us, then again another 5 minutes later. Another 5 minutes go by and our waiter is back asking if he can take anything away even though we were obviously still working on our meal. We were the only people in the restaurant. Our waiter continued to pace back and forth and ask to take our plates away until I said we would let him know when we were ready. He then said told us they were closing, making us feel uncomfortable and rushed. I checked the website for closing time which is 10:30pm, it was 10:15pm when we were rushed out. I feel that if you own a business and want to close early that's up to you but it is unfair and rude to take a customer then rush them out the door. We were only there for about 30 minutes give or take. If they had told us they'd be closing soon when we walked in, we wouldn't have eaten there. I love their food but I am seriously considering not supporting their business after our experience there last night. read more

Such a disappointment for the....3rd time. Yes, I know partly my fault for ordering from a place that has let me down before but none the less I have hope that they will turn it around. Rogan josh is basically tomato sauce from a can mixed with Campbell's tomato soup. Raita is a watery mess with unexpected flavors. The veggie samosas are decent. It's fried so that's it's only saving grace. Spend $2.75 on a trip to tikka in Williamsburg if you feel like having Indian food or $7 uber. You won't regret it. Have always been a loyal Desi Grill guy, but was recently screwed over here. Showed up for lunch special 45 minutes before lunch special was over, and ordered for myself and several friends while pointing to the items on the lunch menu. I actually had to order twice because the waitress forgot to put in the order. My friends all arrived well before lunch special was over, and we had a nice chat with the waitress about how we love coming to Desi Grill for lunch special. The food was good (not at its best), but waitress came back with a bill charging us full price for lunch items that should have been discounted. She said we did not specify that we wanted lunch items, which we contested. She checked with her manager, who decided he wanted to screw us and charge us full price. One of our party, the most loyal customer of the bunch, volunteered that this has actually happened a few times before and has finally come to the conclusion that the staff at Desi Grill intentionally scam their customers with this "you didn't say you wanted the lunch special" thing during lunch hours.
