I came here again despite an experience with my friend who tried to get her Chromebook screen fixed here. Emphasis on the "tried", because we were presented a laptop with a screen that, by their own admission, wasn't installed correctly. It was so dim you could barely see it indoors. But they kindly gave her a discount - that still summed up to more than the price of a current year Chromebook with a better processor and storage. She just bought that. If I buy a meal from a restaurant, and the waitress drops my meal, do I have to pay for that ruined meal and buy a second meal? No, the restaurant covers the meal at a loss. That's why there's profit margins. Unfazed, I returned when my battery died. Support local business, etc. There was a sticker on the bottom of the laptop saying I had warranty. I asked if I still had warranty but didn't get an answer, saying that they'd have to check. They were certainly eager to accept my Thinkpad, though, so I left it here expecting a battery. I came back three days later to find that they hadn't even ordered the battery, and I had to pay a $69 diagnostics charge to get my laptop back with the still-broken battery. Perhaps the nuance was lost, but when I said that I didn't need diagnostics, it was because I didn't want diagnostics. When I said I just needed a battery, it was because I wanted a battery. I signed the invoice because I thought it was part of the warranty, as most warranties work. I made the blunderous assumption that they wouldn't sell me precisely and solely the service which I profusely declined. I did not ask for diagnostics; I asked for a battery. Silly me, but oh well. I'll still purchase the battery. Sunken cost fallacy and all that. At least you have the battery, right? I'll just pay for it and be on my way. Wrong. After three days, they hadn't even purchased one. $60 for the battery itself and $60 for installation and calibration. Thinkpads have a dedicated button for popping the battery in and out. $120 and an additional few days for shipping, or $69 for simply getting my property back. "What do you want me to do?" said the secretary. Give me my property back, because I haven't recieved anything. "You think you can just get a free battery?" That's how warranties work. If I had known that I had no warranty, I would have simply left. That simple. "You think you can just leave this here like a car on the lot?" If I have a car, and I bring it to the mechanic to replace the battery (pretend it's one of those hybrid cars whose batteries are difficult to take out), I expect to come back to a car with a new battery and pay for said battery. I don't expect to come back three days later with the same dead battery, such that I can't even turn on the ignition. And I don't expect to be charged to even be allowed to get my car towed so I can bring it to another mechanic who will actually do what I ask. Further, you don't pay a company to replace your broken window with a different but still broken window. I know mechanics get a hard time when customers aren't wholly satisfied with the result, or when there's unrelated complications, but this is not me thinking I got a subpar battery or whatever. You're not even in the ballpark of doing what I asked of you. You literally did nothing. I've been told the price of diagnostics is not simply for labor but also advertising. How much for two minutes of work and a sheet of printer paper? $2? I guess the other $57 you invest into advertising goes into buying more warranty stickers. Preferably the new batch has the subtext "warranty for 90 days". I would hate for someone to make the same mistake. I'm sure it would inconvenience you, but, just in case, I've got a fantastic script for you to follow to prevent any miscommunication. Don't worry, it's on the house: "Hi, this laptop I bought from you has a broken battery. The big sticker on the back of it that I can't peel off says I have warranty. Am I covered?" "Our warranty is applicable 90 days after purchase, and you've had your laptop for longer than that, so you don't have warranty. You can, however, pay us to purchase a battery and install it for you." "How much will that cost?" "We need to run diagnostics first to make sure it's the battery, which will cost $69. Assuming that it is just the battery, it'll be $30-$60 depending on whether it's an OEM or aftermarket battery, and an additional $60 for installation and callibration, but the diagnostics is free if you pay for our services." "No, thank you. I'll just purchase the battery myself." Was that so hard? I don't mean to detract from the many positive experiences of customers, but even the most incompetent tradesmen are fantastic on a good day. A better reflection of a business' acumen is their actions when handling mistakes. Ask yourselves, readers, how'll they treat you when it isn't a good day? Sorry for my repeated patronage. My name's Jeff and I have an infected computer. I take that back......HAD an infected computer. So here's the scoop......my computer somehow got a nasty very virus on it and completely shut down my account. I couldn't log on to my computer. The laptop is only two years old and has a Best Buy warranty. When I took it in to the Geek Squad at Best Buy I was told it was going to cost a lot of money. They'd need to back-up my music, photos, etc. and then wipe my computer clean. That meant that when the computer was returned to me it would look almost like when I bought it and I'd have to put everything back on it myself.......if I could. Favorites, music, and photos: all would be gone. For a lot of $. And I'd be without a computer for at least two weeks. I decided to take it to Desert Computer Solutions to see what their plan of attack would be. There prices were very reasonqable and that they'd make sure my computer wasn't wiped clean of my goodies. Jackpot. They took my computer, called me within 1 days and let me know what they needed to do, then called me another day later and said I could come pick it up. 2 days was all it took and everything on my computer is the same as when I dropped it off. No missing songs, no absent photos......I am happy camper! Yes. But I was happy to have saved some money. AND the good news is that my computer isn't wiped clean and it was all done in a matter of 2 days. I'm hoping I won't have to use Desert Computer Solutions again (since that would mean I'm having computer trouble and all), but I would gladly choose them over Best Buy (and I even have a warranty there!). 2 days later and I am happy to say that I am virus free! read more

I found Desert Computer Solutions with my google maps app. Their website said they repair cracked iPad screens, for a reasonable price. I dropped it off on a Wednesday evening. I was told it could take a day or two. I finally got the call I was waiting for, my iPad was ready. My friend stopped by to pick it up, two days later. But it had some debris under the glass. So back to the techs table it goes, my friend stopped by a few hours later. I get a call, she still isn't happy with what she sees. I decide that I need to go see for myself. Upon arriving, I'm totally disappointed. There are marks on my screen, that I'm just not happy with. I am so frustrated. Now I have to leave my iPad with them another day. Ugh!! The next day, Sat., The owner calls me. He says he is going to have the tech buff the LCD screen and clean the inside a little better. I asked if it would be better for me to just but a new LCD screen. Chris said, "I hate for you to spend money you don't have to, let's wait and see how it looks after they are done" very skeptical I agreed. I got a call about an hour later. When I arrived my iPad looks amazing! ! It's nice to know that there are companies that still want to make their customers happy. And are willing to go the extra mile to make them happy. Christopher is my HERO. I got a new Sony Vaio laptop and inserted an adapter which I thought would fit okay (like my previous HP) but turned out it didn't. Went to Data Doctors to get help to remove it and they there was not helpful at all - he would not even touch it - said I would need to leave it there for a $100 minimum fee and said they would try not to damage my pc. I was very disgusted and I left. I just happened to do a Google maps search and found Desert Computer Solutions and thought I might as well stop in - WHAT A GREAT SURPRISE! I lucked out and within 15 minutes they had removed the broken adapter from my pc and there was NO CHARGE. I will never go to back to Data Doctors again, and have to agree with the other reviews stating pride of workmanship. Came here a few weeks ago, and ended up buying a pre-built PC desktop tower at a good price to replace my aging desktop (which I'd built more than 10 years ago). After I discovered a couple weeks later that the DVD drive wasn't working right, I contacted Desert Computer Solutions and they were able to see me the same day (and take care of my problem, too). Luis, the technician who helped me, was knowledgeable and professional. Same goes for Jennifer, their office manager. They didn't put up a fuss. Good customer service was provided by them. Pretty good company! I brought my desktop in because it would not play cd/dvd's anymore. They checked it out and called me with the repair quote later that day. I checked around, called a couple of other repair companies and found out that their cost estimate was more than reasonable. The did not overcharge me or do unnecessary repairs.
