I had called another repair shop beforehand and was quoted almost $300, which made absolutely no sense considering I bought my laptop open-box for only $400! He spent so much time trying to find me a good deal (and we know that in business, time is money). I was so surprised at the price he was going to charge me that I insisted on maying 33% more (people that go above and beyond deserve to be fairly compensated). I know enough about the computer hardware business (having done it a bit in the 90s) that I can tell he has the highest ethical standards. For those that don't understand troubleshooting and technology, unethical folks could talk circles around clients to take advantage of them. Mark is 100% the opposite of this and is how we want everyone who does work for us to treat us - with integrity and at reasonable prices. Hopefully, in our work this is how we all treat our own clients and employers. If we want to see more good honest workmanship in the world, we need to recognize it when we see it and share it with others... as I am doing here.

He called back very soon and, at no charge, Facetimed to see how the computer was running. (He could have diagnosed through remote access but the computer was too slow for that). Mr. Barton figured out the crux of the problem at lightening speed. He explained that the problem wasn't something worth paying for repair. Not only did his honesty not earn him any money, but he gladly recommend some excellent laptops and even sent us the links on Amazon! By the way, we have taken that laptop previously to two local repair shops. We were totally ripped off at the first one and the second one installed upgraded parts but had no solution for the speed problem. From the moment I stepped in the store, the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. Jordan answered all my initial questions and provided insight on my options and his recommendations. Not once did I feel like I was being talked down to, nor made me feel like a dork for not knowing much about building computers. But the real star was Alex! He worked on my toasted PC and while he, unfortunately, could not bring it back to life at its current state, he shared his insight and provided me with in-depth details on parts and hardware that's currently out on the market. Since my old rig was out of commission, he helped me in the process of choosing the best new setup for my specific gaming needs at the price-point I was happy with. I highly recommend MetaPC, especially the Peoria location, and will definitely be coming back for any upgrades in the future.

While I do some updates myself like a power unit, memory, and GPU; when I have to deal with HDs and…read morea Motherboard I like to have a professional do it to make sure no data is lost and no conflict with Windows arises as I have seen some funny things arise during updates. My new GPU was slightly too large for the case I had so it was time to move things over to a new case. Jay was on site within an hour to pickup the old tower and the new case as well as the new GPU. The new case had only so much space for my old HDs as it was better suited to SSD drives. It also did not have space for a disc drive so I opted to just go with our external drive when needed. Jay went over all the HD options and I decided to get a new SSD set and make the jump a bit sooner than planned. I had the new set sent directly to him and he had my data moved over. Usually when I get a PC back after updates there is work to do in order to get back games, drivers, contacts, links, or e-mails. This was not the case as the system was ready go to the moment I fired it up and the speed increase of the SSD was very clear to see. The communication along the way was great and the price was very reasonable. Whenever we need work on our systems beyond our normal updates; we go to Hart as we get fast and quality service at a good price.

The one-star reviews are legit…read more My (well-documented) experience: In April, before I gave Travis my computer to fix, I made it clear I'm a teacher making my living with that computer. He seemed to really empathize. When he invoiced me (he said to cover new parts), I paid the same day. Then I tried to be patient because I trusted he was doing his best. After all, he did have so many five-star reviews. Then this bizarre saga began. Travis strung me along for a while via text then completely ghosted me for longer. I went to his door and found his residence evacuated. Alarmed, I disputed the credit card charge and filed a police report for theft. Only when he became aware of that was it worth his time to answer me. By this time, I had seen all the negative reviews that had rolled in since our transaction. I felt doomed, but I genuinely needed and still need that particular computer back. Travis pseudo-apologized and declared, "I want to put this nightmare behind us as much as you do" like we were on the same team in this tomfoolery. Travis offered to mail me the computer as soon as I dropped the dispute with the credit card company (which would pay him in full again) and provided proof that I had closed the police report, requiring me to make a false statement saying we had already resolved the matter between us. Obviously, I knew that if I complied, I'd still be out of a computer, so I refused. Then Travis said he hadn't finished the repair (which was weird because he had told me it was packaged and ready to mail). I told him I didn't mind taking it elsewhere to be fixed, and I'd still gladly close the police report if I just got the computer back. He got defensive, saying he had already put too much into it. So I offered in writing to bring cash in hand to pay for any work he had already done and any parts he had purchased or even to pay for the entire service in cash (if he was willing finish the work right away) then immediately close the police report. But like any sane person, I'd do all of this only if I got my computer back. Travis wrote, "At the end of the day, I've done nothing wrong" and went on painting himself as my victim. He never took accountability for anything. He just listed all the problems I was causing him. Then Travis pretended he didn't trust me not to reopen the police report and falsely claim I hadn't received the computer. He refused to reveal his whereabouts or meet in person and did not respond to my request that he mail the computer to someone else who could give it to me, a meeting which could have been recorded as proof that I had received it (if my willingness to put it in writing wasn't enough). Travis sent me his "policy" (that had not been posted anywhere) stating that any property not picked up after a certain time was his to keep. Then, he told me he could and should charge me storage fees because he had stored my computer for me for too long when per his policy he isn't obligated to do so. He portrayed himself as the good Samaritan who was being persecuted. I'm not sure if it was gaslighting or delusion. My final email (also unanswered) was a very polite request for a simple pic of the serial just to confirm he still even had my computer. To me, no response was a clear no. Game over.
