This is such a great spot. Everyone was very friendly and we had great service even tho we had a very large party. The atmosphere is good and the food is amazing. I've never seen mozzarella logs so huge or delirious in my life. My burger was perfectly cooked and juicy and the bacon on it was huge and so good. Highly recommended. Few choices of Italian in Rome NY - picked this one on a whim while staying here for USPHL HOCKEY NATIONALS. Lovely greeting and recommendations from Margaret our waitress- forgot to take photo of gigantic meatball and salads that we had for appetizers. Enjoyed house wines with friendly service. Solid dishes at a local Italian joint. They have 28 beers on tap. I say try it for yourself and definitely ask "what would you recommend?" I had the pleasure of coming DeSalvo's for a meeting / lunch. This is just a delightful little shop (not too little). Easy to find and plenty of street parking which made it really easy to park (right across the street.) The group I was with had the upstairs which was perfect for our meeting that turned into lunch. The downstair had a seating area along with the bar. Upstairs did not have windows but had plenty of light. Cool rustic setting which I'm noticing at a lot of the upstate restaurants. We had our meeting first then went into our buffet style lunch which worked out very nicely. Salad, sausage and peppers, eggplant and ziti. Everything was hot, tasty, fresh and plentiful. I'm always concerned about the dried out or soon to be mushy food from buffets, that was definitely not the case here. The staff here was wonderful. Even though is was buffet style we had a waitress following up with us for drinks and anything else we needed. Food is top notch, place is spotless, and owners and staff are friendly and welcoming.

For the good: great service. Thought our waitress was awesome and pleasant personality. Very attentive. Also good is their beer selection. I recommend the Georgia peach. The house salad with the balsamic vinegarette was also great. Great ambience inside with cool decor and nice music playing outside when you walk in. For the bad: unfortunately the main course which is what we came for just was subpar. Lacked Italian flavor. I had this dish that was chicken parm with peppers and onions with potatoes. I didn't think the sauce was flavorful... honesty It was bland. The chicken had a weird chewy texture that honestly I've never ever had in my life. Almost thought it was raw but it wasn't. But felt like it when biting into it. For that I have to give two stars. Had high hopes but hey at least the beer and salad was good. read more

I got a chicken and potatoes dish with cream sauce. My dining partner got traditional spaghetti and meatballs. Both were absolutely drowning in sauce. Everything was mushy because of the sauce and who knows if there was any flavor because all you tasted was... sauce. A little moderation goes a long way. Bread was good. Service was friendly. My wife and I were visiting Rome for several days and looking for an Italian meal. We went to DeSalvos. We asked the waitress for water with our meal. She brought us 2 bottled waters. I noticed that the bottled waters were priced at $3 each. I asked her for tap water instead. She said that was not possible. We should have left then because it got even worse. I wanted spaghetti and meatballs but it was very overpriced. I opted for the cheeseburger. My wife ordered the eggplant Parmesan. She said the meal tasted scorched and didn't have any Parmesan or cheese taste. She was able to eat very little of the meal. I tried the spaghetti accompanying her meal. The sauce was bland and tasteless. In all fairness the cheese burger was O.K. So much for a good Italian meal in Rome. read more

Update: While when I first came here I gave them 4 stars, I have dramatically lowered their rating based upon my most recent experience. I came in for lunch with my wife and we sat ourselves. After my wife made eye contact with the bartender (also a server) and waited...and waited...and waited. We weren't even acknowledged with so much as "I'll be with you in a minute." Rather we got nothing! Big pet peeve for me is being ignored. We waited a long time before we left without any acknowledgement. Bad service and bad experience. Not really sure if we will be back. (Update ends here) Excellent Italian restaurant. First visit and were super happy with our meal. It's a little cozy (read - small), but the food was excellent and the draft menu was fantastic. I'm only in town for the weekend and happened upon this place last night. We walked in and didn't realize they were closing but they still served us with no issue. The food was AMAZING and very authentic. Actually, I couldn't be less Italian so I have no idea if it was authentic, but it was still really good. I only had pizza here. Judging solely on that. The crust was burnt and when i picked up a slice all the cheese immediately fell off. After i scraped the pizza back up and placed the mess on my plate... It was surprisingly tasty. Definitely a knife and fork affair. read more

I'm not sure where I've been the last 6 years that I've missed this place but I'm glad I showed up yesterday for lunch. Seems everyone knows how good this place is but me, including my 82 year old father. Rich was awesome and welcoming at the bar. The service was outstanding as well as the conversation. Nothing gives me more pleasure than dining out and having a perfect experience... that is how I sum up my dining experience at DeSalvo this past Friday evening. My son and I arrived for his Birthday dinner and we were immediately seated. The dining area is COZY (ie, a little small), but very clean and actually quite comfortable. As the tables filled up, I felt comfortable having a conversation with my son... without feeling self-conscious (as there was a nice buzz in the place). The dining area was starting to fill up and it was getting busy. In walks a group of 8 that had no reservations (PLEASE, never do this to a restaurant or their patrons, it is very rude). The group was accommodated in a friendly manner and the staff rearranged tables for the group without disrupting dinner service or other patrons at all! The Maitre de (owner), while a bit stern, didn't overmanage and took care of a couple small issues quickly and professionally. The Head Waitress (Rita) worked the dining area like a CHAMP...one of the most efficient and professional Wait Persons I have ever seen in action. None of the guests waited for a drink and it seemed like Rita was EVERYWHERE all at once...that is called SERVICE! Front of the House ran like a well oiled machine. The food was coming from the kitchen quickly and efficiently and I observed every dish that came out...they all looked amazing! On to our dinner. The salad was pristine, not a speck of brown anywhere and the dressings (Bleu Cheese and Italian) were simply fantastic. The house bread was very, very good. We had Stuffed Portabella Mushrooms for an appetizer and it was literally enough to serve 4...it was absolutely delicious (stuffed with sausage and greens). Our entree's were Haddock Fish Fry and Haddock Parmesan. The Haddock was Ocean fresh and prepared to perfection. The breading for the Haddock, seasoned just right and the fish was cooked exactly as it should be. Tarter sauce, excellent. Cole Slaw, spot on. French Fries, crispy and seasoned beautifully. For the service we received, the quality and portion size of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant, I have to give 5 stars. read more

An interesting experience. They have a decent beer selection and a very eclectic menu. Its very small in here and unfortunately we were seated directly next to the bar. I could have done without the side show that the staff who had just got off work was putting on. I'd prefer not to see someone's gut while trying to eat a nice dinner. Apart from that the atmosphere is nice. Our server was eh, he took forever to do anything, didn't bring us bread(had to ask for it) and wasn't super friendly. Another waitress picked up where he was leaving off, probably should have tipped her instead. We had the fried provolone, which was excellent! Shrimp and hats and the fish fry. The shrimp were cooked beautifully, sauce was good although the pasta was slightly over cooked. The fish fry had a nice breading on it but was slightly over cooked. I'm assuming they have dessert but our server never offered so not sure what they have. Get your staff to step up their game and you might have yourself a great little place. read more
