I've posted so many photos and checked in here way before Yelp became popular and I just realized I have not even reviewed this place! LOL. I just want to keep this place to myself and don't want others to know about it! It's our go to Indian and Pakistani food. I've ordered to go, dined in, and even got trays for my baby shower over a decade ago! Food tasted good then and is still good now (the only difference is it costs more now - same as all the pricing in NYC). They used to be open 24hours but now close at midnight. Still a good place to go to esp. for late night dining.

So I had the chance to eat here last weekend. I was sooooo surprised by how economical it was!! Everything seemed to cost half or even one-third versus what we have to pay here for pretty mediocre food in KY. Anyway, what we ordered and how it tasted is below: Papri Chaat.... 5/5, ample quantity Chicken Seekh Kebab... 4/5 Bihari Boti... 4/5 Chicken Boti.... 4/5 Beef Nihari... 3/5 .. found it bland n tasteless Naan... 5/5 Lassi... 5/5 Highly recommended!!!!! Tea... 5/5 The accompanying raita n salad were fresh and tasty too. The only thing I'd have preferred was if they'd focused a lil on presentation and at least cleaned the rims or serving dishes before serving. But that's a small thing and I guess, easily ignored coz the food was fabulous!!!!!

The food is really excellent here. Top quality, very fresh. Spices are perfect. It's really popular and the staff and service is great. Very convenient with subways. Highly recommend!

You can love Dera, you can hate Dera, or you can be indifferent to Dera. But you simply cannot deny the significance of Dera as a Jackson Heights institution for the Pakistani diaspora in and around New York City. This restaurant has been around longer than I have been alive, and I am as old as the hills (don't ask me which hills, I am geographically and geologically challenged). When I talk to the Pakistani aunties and uncles who left their homeland during the previous century in search of bigger and better opportunities in this wondrous concrete jungle that dreams are made of, they often speak fondly of Dera (including when it was operating under a different name - Shaheen - I believe). Dera is a spacious restaurant that occupies prime real estate at the corner of Broadway and 72nd St in the middle of the incredibly diverse neighborhood of Jackson Heights. The food is consistently tasty, albeit a tad heavy on the use of oil. The culinary style leans towards the cuisine from the Punjab region. Service is adequate; not particularly convivial (or even very attentive), but they get the job done. I will continue to undertake the trek out to Queens to enjoy the food from the Motherland.

This was my first time here. My sister heard about Dera Restaurant from a couple of friends. Since we were in the area, we decided to try this place (my regular place was closed). It was a very large space with plenty of tables, sort of like a cafeteria. We walked up to the open counter display to look at all the food that was available. I didn't know what I was looking at, but the staff here was very friendly and I asked a lot of questions they helped me understand what I was look at. Normally at other Indian restaurants in the area their staff does not speak English and its a challenge trying to order anything. There were a few rice trays different chicken, beef and goat choices, plus more. Once we decided what we wanted we ordered a few things to take home. We ordered their samosa (potato and peas), Aloo Paratha, Chicken Biryani. Everything was good, since most of the food was already cooked and in the display case everything needed to be heated up except for the Aloo Paratha that was cooked to order. I looked around to see what everyone else was eating and their Tandoori Roti and Sesame naan seemed very popular. Almost everyone had a some at their table. Next time, I am going to try their butter chicken plus definitely get a few fresh baked breads.

Salams all I am going to keep it short and simple Place is clean Variety of curries, biryanis and all sort of BBQ I loved this place and used to visit it religiously But whats with lying on face about dishes !!!! They proclaim that there curry ya salan is made of goat and biryani is also made of goat. Now lets be honest.. someone who grew up eating goat ya goat ka salan which we call it... how is possible that u tell me that i dont know the difference between them.... Are you serious You are lying straight out loud.... I never expected this from Dera i swear i used to priase this place. Check the pictures. Most of there stuff which they say is goat is actually L Keep it real...

Best mithai ever in town! I will definitely get again. highly recommended! Loved so much

Chicken haleem, goat feet stew, and goat karahi

This place is a very casual, no frills, and affordable establishment. It's a nice restaurant to bring friends or family as they have a lot of seating and can accommodate large groups. They serve larger portions of food at the restaurant than via takeout or delivery, so make sure to eat at the restaurant if you want to get your money's worth. They give you a small salad with yogurt dressing on the side without additional charge - but you have to ask for it. The naan is thick and soft, and the goat dishes are full of meat and bone marrow. The service is also fair and the food comes quickly.

Ordered: 4 Steamed Chicken Momos (~$6)…read moreGoat Shinwari Karahi (~$20) Tandoori Mix (~$22) Chicken Biryani (~$14) Sesame Naan (~$3) Kashmiri Tea (~$3) Aya's take: Kabab King has officially been put on the map thanks to our Mayor Mamdani who says this is one of his favorite spots! Jackson Heights has no shortage of great Southeast Asian food, so I was excited to give this spot a try. They have dine-in option and plenty of seating upstairs while the downstairs is just for takeout and was much busier. The Steamed Chicken Momos were satisfying, warm, and well-seasoned. There was a bit too much dough for my liking but I did enjoy the flavors. The Tandoori Mix was a nice assortment of various cuts of chicken & beef. Many of the pieces were on the dry side but again, the flavor was there. The Goat Shinwari Karahi is definitely worth getting. The goat was super tender and aromatic and the karahi is fragrant and made well. It's super greasy which I didn't like, and it wasn't served with anything. If you want rice/naan on the side, you need to add that on yourself. Nonetheless, for ~$20, it's still a great deal. The Chicken Biryani was fluffy, aromatic & fragrant, and filled with a good portion of chicken. This was the base for the other dishes we got and truly paired well with everything. The portion was perfect for 4 people and at ~$14, that's an unbeatable price! I also loved the Sesame Naan which scooped up the karahi sauce so well! The Kashmiri Tea here is so good! The pistachios are well incorporated so you don't feel like you're chewing so much while sipping, and the tea is rich & soothing. It's definitely cheap comfort food and we left feeling fill & satisfied but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Solid try!

However, recently when my uncle was in town and staying close to LaGuardia, it only made sense to pay an old friend a visit and take a trip down memory lane. Not much has changed here since the decades have passed us by other than perhaps the sighting of more and more non-brown people in the family dining hall as Mayor Mamdani has put this Jackson Heights institution on the map. We weren't really in the mood for a lot of food so our order was pretty simple - a single order of goat karahi, seekh kabab and some naan. Goat karahi came out fresh and hot. I will say it was more on the greasier side, lots of oil to fish through, and the goat couldve been a bit more tender but the flavor was on point. Naan was warm and fluffy, and the kabab were spiced just right although I feel they need to be a little juicier. We washed this down with chai which was really good but more on the milkier side. I can't wait to return and re-familiarize myself with their menu offerings. Maybe I'll give the biryani a try next time, I've heard it's pretty good here!

I'm judging the quality of the food Their chicken Tikka is like heaven in earth, I have tried so many places around the country. Their naans are so fresh and fluffy and really a good size for the money I live in st Louis but visited Tikka Grill by coincidence in 2010 when I had an interview in New York, I have never forgotten my reaction after my first bite of the chikken Tikka, I did not visit NY again until recently, my plan was to visit Tikka Grill after 9 years and was hoping the flavors will be the same. I had 2 Tikka roll not because I was hungry but because I knew I won't be back to NYC for some time and I will miss this food, I even took 4 orders to go on my way back to st Louis for the whole family to enjoy for dinner (yes food flew with me in the airplane) BTW they don't take credit cards so bring some cash with you Great job Tikka Grill, I wish we have something like you in st louis

The gentleman at the counter was doing everything himself, from serving customers to preparing all the dishes. We ordered the pani puri and a tray of steamed chicken momo (pictured). I am not a big fan of pani puri, but my partner said it was good. I did love the chicken momo and the sauce for dipping was spectacular. We paid around $15 in total for everything, including two waters, so its a steal if you are in the area. My review is based on two items sampled on separate occasions: pani puri and dahi puri are served as small plates of eight or nine small hors d'oeuvres-like snacks made up of complex layers of flavors. I'm no expert on this cuisine but understand its roots are street food that was so good it's often served in fine restaurants. To be sure, K2 is no fine dining establishment, and to come here expecting it is anything approaching that would be a mistake. It's a neighborhood dive, the front of the restaurant wide open, weather permitting, with questionable cleanliness and an interior that suggests no one is particularly concerned about the ambiance. I'm of the opinion not every food establishment needs to cater to those needs, so as long as the food is great, I'm in. Both dishes consist of a circular wheat-based, light, airy shell with the top removed, then filled with different ingredients. For both dishes the appeal is the complexity. Dahi puri is at once sweet, savory, salty, bitter and plenty of heat--a real sensory bomb. The combination (eat these in one bite!) rewards the palette nicely. For pani puri it's onion, cilantro, plenty of heat, garbanzos and possibly potato if memory serves. Again, a complex single bite that simply delights. Pair these with the Himalayan butter tea with it's salty & sweet taste and you once again have a complex experience. But to be sure, that tea is an acquired taste and many palettes will not agree with my assessment as to its pleasing taste. If you come: cash only, steps away from the #7 train and smack dab in the middle of the combined Tibetan, Northern Indian, Nepal, Bhutanese diaspora. Jackson Heights? Maybe Himalayan Heights.

When you're the only person who looks like you in the place and you're surrounded by brown people speaking other languages, you've likely found an authentic place with great food. Ittadi was definitely that place. They have a huge buffet of food, TONS of options, but you can also tell the food is fresh. And the place was so busy that you know the food didn't sit long and was refreshed often. We tried the coconut samosa, which was large in size. It was the perfect combo of savory and sweet. We also had the egg chop, which is a hard boiled egg covered in spicy mashed potatoes and fried in a crispy breadcrumb coating. It was super spicy (in a good way) and delish. It came with a side of onions and greenery. We also had the haleem, which is a comfort dish, made of lentils. It was so warm and filling. Absolutely delicious. The employees/owners were so kind. They were really invested in us liking our food. When we didn't eat everything, they were concerned, but we told them we were on a food crawl and had to save space, otherwise we would have devoured everything. Again, this was my favorite place of the whole crawl, and I would make the trek back over to Queens just for this food.

We did receive rotten sauce one time, but never again. During Ramadan, I was really craving an Iftar box meal. My dad bought me one from this place, and it came with biryani, fritters, and fruits. I was honestly scared to try the biryani because I usually dislike the ones outside because they smell, have too much oil, or just straight up taste bad. But honestly, the biryani was so good... I was really surprised, and definitely proven wrong. I would get it again! I did find one of the fritters in the Iftar box to be mid, but I cannot remember which one as it isn't something I have ordered often. My main reasons for giving this restaurant 4 stars is because I agree with one of the other reviews that mention the ambiance not being so good. I don't think this is somewhere you could sit down and have a meal in quiet without getting overstimulated as it is next to the train station on Diversity Plaza, where a lot of people just hang out. This is one of the to-go places where people often get tea or snacks from, so you'll see people going in and out A LOT. As for service, I'm not sure what to say because it's always been my dad who ordered and dealt with the staff, so I can't say much. But he usually tells us if any restaurant staff makes him mad, so as far as I recall, he never complained about the service. Also, I have never tried the main course food items, such as pulao and roast. So I cannot comment on how those taste, but reading the other views, it seems they weren't too good. And I'm seeing that people had complaints about cleanliness of the restaurant and how there is a lack of proper plumbing systems. I guess I never noticed this because I never actually sat in the restaurant.. Maybe I should eat from here less often?
