Get breakfast here! This tiny quaint little place is cozy and adorable. The employees are super friendly, greeting as soon as you come in. We sat down and it wasn't 2 minutes and a young man was asking what beverages we would like to have. The place was clean and organized even though they were super busy on a Sunday morning. I had a very basic breakfast with 2 eggs over medium, bacon, toast and a small bowl of their gravy. Everything was perfect! my husband and his mother had the basic breakfast with a hashbrown and a side of gravy and they enjoyed theirs as well. When the drinks come out they are in a 24 ounce mason jar, so you won't need a refill. This place has some really neat decor showing when a tornado came through the area and knocked the building on it's side. We will come here again when we are in the area. This place is awesome! read more

Nothing fancy but totally worth the stop. Large portions and very tasty. I had the patty melt with onion rings. My husband got the chicken fried steak platter. Came with mashed potatoes and gravy, salad and a roll. The server was by herself and did a great job. When there are lots of locals you know it is good. Not many tables and close to each other which makes the experience even more homey. Locals very welcoming and friendly. read more

The food was amazing and so was the service. I loved the whole feeling the place has I'll be back!

The Depot Diner turned out to be a delicious spot for lunch on a recent road trip from Cincinnati to St. Louis. Conveniently located right off the exit, this diner offers all the classics and more. Service was friendly and fast. Nothing pretentious, just comfort food and authentic in all aspects. Everything you would want and expect from a roadside diner. Highly recommend. *Cash only. read more

Great food at a great price. The #3 breakfast was 3 eggs, choice of meat, hash brown patty, and pancake or biscuits and gravy for $9.95. My sunny side up eggs were done perfectly; the bacon was crisp; and the pancake was huge. The hash brown appeared to be preformed--not great but I did enjoy it. Very convenient to I-64. Not much signage other than an "Eat" sign but it does look like a depot. I will definitely try to stop on my travels that direction. read more

The pancakes were massive and yummy af the bizkits were also yummy af yummy yummy in my tummy.

Love this spot, the food is diner food done right. Burgers are perfectly cooked with fresh toppings, the tomato tasted delicious and the prices are the best deal in town. Tried the tenderloin sandwich, not the biggest in the state, but tasty. Each time traveling thru we get the cheese omlete is a bit different depending on who is cooking, no complaints, makes it interesting and extra cheesy. This should be a must stop for travelers, the locals love this gem. I love it. support local spots. read more

While it's nothing special food wise (from what we sampled), it is better than driving to Evansville or getting fast food and the prices are more than fair. There's a very large parking lot. It's a quaint and cozy place I wouldn't be afraid to recommend as long as you know this is just regular diner food. We went for an early dinner/late lunch about 4:00ish on a Saturday afternoon. The place was empty. We were greeted right away and the waitress got our drink order immediately. The drinks are huge and served in Bell jars - I love it. Fountain drinks were Coca Cola brands and mixed well, so I was happy. I ordered a cajun chicken sandwich with cajun fries and my friend had the tenderloin sandwich with fried mushrooms. They were both fine. The seasoning was very mild on my chicken sandwich and a tad dry but still not bad and the fries were good. I tasted my friend's mushrooms and they were fried okay, but I'm just not a fan. The waitress was new, but very sweet and accommodating. We both ordered dessert - which they were out of most everything I'm guessing from the night before. I was hoping for cherry or chocolate pie, maybe next time. My friend settled on strawberry cheesecake (the kind with the strawberry sauce swirled in the cheesecake) and I got cherry cheesecake but the fluffier kind made with whipped topping. Both were disappointing. When I had found out they were out of most desserts, I went to look in their cooler to pick out what I wanted and noticed their weren't lids on some things and lots of other stuff was stored in there too which I feel may have given the cheesecake a wonky taste. The strawberry cheesecake probably came frozen and tasted as such. I think the cherry cheesecake was made there. It just wasn't good. I make this kind of cheesecake myself and it's always delicious but their version was bland and not sweet enough. The cherries had a tough film on them from not having a lid and probably being made a day or two earlier. I won't order that again. My guess would be that everything was frozen and just cooked in the fryer, which is fine. I'm glad to have another option to eat not too far from our rural area. There were lots of other dishes to try another time and maybe that will be their shining star. Friends have said their breakfast is great. I'll go back and will maybe try their open-faced roast beef. read more

Cute little spot/dîner in Griffin; very convenient location for us while staying in New Harmony! I got a double cheese burger & my partner got the hotcakes with eggs & bacon. Everything tasted fantastic, & well priced. Definitely will stop by again next time we're in town! read more

This is a classic diner, located in the old Depot in Griffin, just off I-64. Breakfasts are amazing, and the pancakes are ENORMOUS! Service is laid back and casual: pay up front when you're done, and help yourself to coffee. They serve lunch and dinner, as well; just don't go there if you want to leave hungry, as the portions are generous! read more

Real-deal local's diner. The food is solid and satisfying, but don't expect anything fancy.

My husband and I stopped in for breakfast on Sunday while we were in the area for a class reunion. It's not fancy but very clean and has really interesting decor. The food was typical for what you would expect from a diner, standard breakfast fare, hamburgers, chicken fried steak, and fried fish. My "deluxe "breakfast was less than $10. Good food for a good price. The next time we're in the neighborhood we would definitely stop back for breakfast. read more

This place has no sign. There are gas pumps out front but they don't work. It's called "Depot Diner" in a newspaper piece hanging on the wall from a few years back, and something else on Google. Pretty much everything I pray for when I pull off the interstate for a bite. The only thing taking off a star was the grumpy waitress. Not happy to see me. The burgers were really good and handmade and juicy, fries were perfect. Every plate that wandered past was tasty-looking, which is a really good sign. Also there were no other tourists, which seals the deal. read more

Fits the bill. The facility looks a little run down and the parking lot was paved... once. Get over your snooty self and enjoy an awesome little diner. The special is on the chalk board and you may think the price is a mistake since it's about five dollars less than it should be. Soft drinks and tea came in huge glass canning jars. I had the very best vegetable soup I have ever had. It was steaming hot and FULL of veggies and flavor. I also had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich that was exceptional. They used really good ham obviously from a real ham not sandwich meat. The cheese part included ricotta and American. Tater tots were my side. In short for a soup and sandwich lunch I was very pleasantly surprised. BUT KNOW THIS... THEY CLOSE AT 2:00 pm sharp read more

If you have ever traveled the godforsaken stretch of I 64 between Louisville, Kentucky and Mount Vernon, Illinois you have likely experienced the need to stumble across a decent place to get your grub on. Thanks to Yelp, I opted to give the Depot a try rather than settling for Pilot station Subway. I decided to play it safe and simply get a cheeseburger, and some onion rings (which had been noted as a stand out in a prior review here on Yelp). The two ladies working when I stopped by were very friendly. The interior has a bit of a cobbled together feel; the main "dining room" is a couple steps above the counter where you pay, and a bit more upscale, what with its linoleum floor and decor. The other section, where the cash register is, has plywood flooring and by itself would be enough to make me say nope, not this place. Fortunately they had the health inspection A rating displayed in the dining area so I opted to give it a shot... for carry out... My cheeseburger was real, and freshly cooked (as opposed to what the typical fast food chain presents as a "hamburger"). The gal who took my order let me know when I asked that they do not make the onion rings from scratch but "they're real good!" I would have to agree with her on that, though at $4 they were pretty pricey! All in all I am glad I stopped in at the Depot rather than settling for nondescript fast food at another exit. But, trust me in this, find another place to use the restroom! read more

Traveling on I64E heading toward Louisville. Lots of road, few cars and we were hungry! The Depot Diner came up on Yelp. So glad it did! Don't let the outside scare you off. The food was great and so was the service! AND the bathroom was clean! I had a tenderloin & fries and my husband had a seafood dinner. Both were great. Also the menu said breakfast anytime! Depot Diner - Diners Near Me - Griffin, Indiana

When I left the FBI, I turned in my gun. My badge. They threw a nice party for me at Quantico. Where my service all began. With a glad hand extended behind a cushy oak desk, my boss promised me I'd never have to kill again for my country. Promised me. Six years later, they bring me back in. I'm working an off-the-books mission on the Bayou outside Griffin. Some Russians had overstayed their visas and and overstepped the Red, White, and Blue. A Blue Rose case. Armed only with my boot knife and a turkey call, I completed the mission. But I broke the Bureau's promise to me. I drew lifeblood that night. Won't lie. It messed with my head. I wandered into Griffin Proper questioning my myself. My patriotism. Had breakfast at Depot Diner. Any sense of regret was washed away in the yolk of a perfectly crafted Indiana egg over easy. Crisp bacon. Wet toast. I know my mission now. No hesitation. No regret. This place puts Denny's to shame. read more

What a find on I-64 between St. Louis and Louisville! Diner in old train depot right off 64 in the middle of nowhere. Small spot in road was ravaged by deadliest tornado in U.S. history in 1925 that killed more than 600 in 3 states. I know that because the photos are on the wall of this mom and pop diner. Oh yeah, the food was terrific. Best grilled tenderloin sandwich I've had in years and my wife's cheeseburger was terrific - grilled so it was a little crunchy on bottom. Home grown tomatoes on both. Cheap too! read more
