We stop at Pips on road trips. I got The Danny Double burger (Two 2 oz. Mustard Seared Hand-Smashed Beef Patties, Grilled Onions, Pickles, Two Slices American Cheese, Danny's 1000 Island Sauce on a Toasted Bun.). It was a nice burger. The burgers were seared well and the toppings gave it a big flavor. The fries have a brown sugar seasoning that sounds odd, but it's not overpowering and the fries are cooked well and not greasy. This is one of our favorite places to stop at when we travel from St. Louis to Louisville. Was making a quick trip yesterday and stopped in for a burger. They were quite busy as they just had a large table sat down. The food took longer than normal to come out so I just asked for it to go so I could eat it on the road. There are special used to be on Thursdays any of the burgers for seven dollars but it went up a bit and it was $8.99 for just the Smashburger. It was still really good and a great deal. I did notice that when you order it to go you don't get near as many french fries as they give you when you eat it there, but it was still plenty for the price. This was fun stop! We could tell a lot of people there were regulars. The waitress was super sweet and the food came out quickly. Philly cheesesteak was meh. Same with the fries. But the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and onion rings were both wonderful!! The chicken was so moist and the sauce had great flavor. Just a great meal all around. We came on a Saturday for lunch. We were seated right away and there were several customers already there, so it was quite busy. There were only two people in the kitchen and only one server, and even though we did have to wait a bit, our server was very pleasant and as attentive as she could be. We ordered fried pickles, which were nothing special but hot and delicious. For our meal we had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, which came with TWO chicken breasts. It was spicy and had pickles and a slaw on it and was so delicious! We also had the Stromboli and it was very flavorful! PIPS Pub was such a cool experience! It's set in an old 1950's Denny's diner that has been completely updated on the interior. This restaurant is as CLEAN as they come. The service was excellent, the cooks very quick, efficient, and wearing hair nets! You certainly don't see that often these days. The food came out just as described and was sooo delicious. What a find! Friday lunch was delicious. We started out with the Pretzel Sticks and Beer Cheese and they were outstanding. The cheese sauce was so good! Then we had the 6-inch Stromboli Sandwich and Onion Rings, Mac & Smashed Burger with Fries and the Thai Salad. Everything was amazing. I chose Pip's Pub due to it's proximity to my hotel, yelp reviews and untapp'd showing a couple of craft beers. First, as far as pubs go, this is more Gastro than Irish. The building is an updated diner, so the bar is the counter, only 4 taps (2 national macros, one national micro and one local). Limited liquor selection although they did have a seasonal cocktail menu. There is a TV over the bar, but I don't see this being a go to for game night. I sat at the bar, it looked like they had a decent sized dining room and a large patio that was not in use in December. The menu seemed to be elevated bar/comfort food; I almost just ordered appetizers but went for the pulled pork mac and cheese. The portion was appropriately sized; I was full when I finished, but didn't end up leftovers. The pulled pork was tender, I would have preferred a little less sauce as I couldn't get much flavor from the pork. The sign said new management and it looked like they had three people working (Monday night), two in the kitchen and one front of house. The waitress/server/bartender was always on the move but provided good service. The only odd thing was they cut the person next to me off. He wasn't drunk or belligerent, but he had 6 Michelob Ultras and that is their limit. She was polite but firm when he pointed out he had walked over from his hotel and he paid his bill with no issue. Not sure if that is a bar policy or local law. All and all I will probably be back next time I am in town. read more

Pips Pub caught my eye due to the distinctive chrome building. You can't miss it. There's a bit of peeling of the onion here though. Pips is named like an English bar, looks like a retro diner from the outside, looks like a startup roadhouse on the inside, and has a diverse menu that is standard American restaurant. The seating indoors is plentiful with lots of tables, booths, and a long bar near the entrance. I was thinking this was a hot rod diner at first and would have gone with a brighter color than brown for the seating, but it blends with the barn-finish wood, standard neon and metal promotional signage, and simple paint scheme. There's also a large patio (partially covered) for use when the weather is nice and live bands play. Not much of a view with hotels surrounding it and the highway out front, but pleasant nonetheless. The menu is diverse. Lots of basic appetizers, plenty of sandwiches, Stromboli's, pizza, and a couple of desserts. There doesn't seem to be a lot of specialization, but our chicken sandwiches were very good and hit the spot. Fries and fried pickles were crispy and hot. Service was excellent! Jesse was the only guy working all the tables at lunch and nailed it. Pips is a nice spot and worth a visit! read more

It was basically a pizza sub. The roll was fresh and soft with a bit of butter and Italian seasoning. The sauce was a rich, thick pizza sauce. Overall it was pretty good. The fries have a brown sugar and pepper seasoning and are really good. The slaw was a vinegar slaw with pickled banana peppers. It was different. Jacob got the Chicken on the Beach. The rice was seasoned and a little crispy. It gave it another texture and the grilled chicken was good. Someone ordered the pulled pork mac and cheese and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Please note this is a drink, atmosphere and service/staff review, NOT A FOOD REVIEW. For a Sunday evening in this area is was pretty hoppin'. A lot of the local taverns close down earlier on Sundays so it's hard to find a place to have a drink out here after 6pm. Luckily they are open till 9pm on Sunday so I was able to meet up for a drink with my Aunt and Uncle. This is an old Denny's diner... everyone in the area calls it the SHINY DINER. So now Pips is that "Shiny Diner." It looks like exact same it did, no updates from the Denny's days, except a few TVs added to watch the sportsball games. The atmosphere is so-so... I feel like whoever you come with is the atmosphere and vibe.. aka, if you come with a fun group that is lively, it'll be good. However, if it's just you and another person and looking for a place to enjoy a bar (or any kind of) atmosphere, this probably isn't your place. It was just so-so. I was with my family and we had a great time catching up, but if I was solo not sure I would've had that good of a time here. The service was VERY slow. It almost seemed as if there was one woman for the whole place. Maybe someone called in, but that poor waitress. She was very nice, but you might've as well ordered 2 drinks at the time because you'd want another one before you'd see her again. They don't have a huge selection of drinks, but they have a few wines and draft beers, minimal liquor (but the basics to make a cocktail) and a decent amount of bottle (beer) options. As I mentioned I didn't get food however, I will give you an update on update on what my uncle and aunt thought of their food, which they said it was pretty good. My aunt got the 7" pizza... it was much smaller than she expected. Thin crust, decent flavor, but not as good as Darmstadt Inn, in the area. My uncle got the Philly Fries. They look delicious and it was a generous portion. Had more of a queso cheese on top with all the toppings. He cleaned his plate so I'd say it's probably worth trying if that's your cup of tea. Again, it might have just been an off day with the lack of service, and maybe my review might have been boosted with trying the food... so next time I'm in town, maybe I'll be back to update my review! read more

They feature specialty drinks and change features drinks each night Our host was friendly and although busy greeted us and checked in on us twice and looked me in the eyes. A manager also came out to take our order as the waiters were dealing with large groups. Music is too loud for my tastes and when the dining room is full of people it gets very loud. We had cheeseburgers and fries. The burgers were thick and juicy the veggies crisp and cool. Perfect. The fries are different, worth trying. They are seasoned but not some generic seasoned salt. It had a mildly sweet flavor with a hint of bbq seasoning and pepper and not too salty. Paired well with catchup! Lol. This is a perfect small town hangout. Clearly people knew each other and my pickup fit right in with all the other pickups in the parking lot. A much nicer choice over fast food if your on a road trip, check them out! read more

We've driven by Pips dozens of times and never stopped in. I wish we had checked it out sooner. Food was much better than we expected. All three of our entrees were great. BLT, habanero wrap, and Nashville hot chicken. Everyone had the fries which were also better than average. It's worth driving a little farther to get here if you're debating other options on US-41. This is a pretty cool little diner with some amazing food. The outside looks like you'd be going back in time to an old school diner. They have a really nice sized parking lot and as you walk in there is a cute little seating area that looks pretty trendy compared to the old diner feel of the outside. They have several tables and booths as well as bar seating. I was alone so I just sat at the bar. They have a QR code that you can check out the menu on your device or you can get a paper menu also. They have a few signature cocktails and a handful of beer on tap as well. The menu isn't overly huge but it was still a little difficult to make a decision. They have a few different appetizers, burgers, pizza... I ended up getting the Buffalo chicken sandwich and fries and wasn't disappointed at all. This sandwich was delicious. It was smothered in Buffalo sauce along with a drizzle of ranch and was really tasty. Their fries have a different type of seasoning on them that is a tad sweet but were pretty good. I rarely eat all my fries when I have them with a meal but there wasn't anything left on my plate of that tells you how good they were! If you like "secret" seasonings on fries to be brown sugar than this is your place! Yum. Like tons of it. It dusts your plate liberally. To add to the yummy experience the fries are soggy, the cheese was coagulated in blobs on top of the fries. I thought well it was just my order. I tasted my daughter's chicken tenders. They were salt blocks. I am almost certain I felt my ring get tight instantly. I don't even have HBP, but I feel certain I do now. Her fries were also coated in brown sugar. My husband's grilled chicken sandwich had a glaze on it that burned. The young lady waiting tables was amazing. She was so efficient and pleasant. She was a hard worker. We tipped her well. Off to a good start with a diner vibe and friendly attentive staff. Food tops out at just okay. To have two Stromboli on a limited menu, thought it would be great. You need to cook the onions and green peppers, those raw components with an overly thick almost tomato paste thickness sauce doesn't work. Mango habanero wings need more heat. Buffalo Ranch chicken sandwich was just okay. Spend a few weeks watching triple D on the food network. Where are the malts and milkshakes? Chili? Chili dogs? Reuben? Loaded Fries? Meatloaf? Chicken Fried Steak? Over heard the onion rings were good after we had paid the check. You are close, sit down and taste all the items on your menu, you can't tell me you take a bite out the Meaty Stromboli and can't wait to take another.
