Pub is easy to find with lots of parking. Porch is excellent place to sit, but be mindful of the heat and location of the sun. In the summer, after 4, the outdoor porch will get sun. Cheeseburger is outstanding and reasonably priced. I went for the variety of beers. I was impressed. The smoked Miranda is delicious. Smokiness is not overpowering. Service was timely and we had multiple visits. When this place is hoping, be patient and nurse that beer. read more

The only challenge was getting there! Even though the restaurant was less than 2 miles from the hotel (as the crow flies?), the directions provided from Yelp/Google maps got us close - but not close enough. We eventually found it and were one of only a couple cars there. Tuesday night in the summer around 6 pm or so. No wait at all - plenty of tables to pick from. We liked the fact the place was relatively empty given the COVID situation and all. There were 3 of us - me, hubby and another coach from the travel team we were there with. They had a bunch of beers to pick from - but I don't drink, so Diet Coke was on the list for me. We got our drinks quickly and then took a look at the menu. I had checked it out ahead of time to make sure there was a salad for me and stuff the guys would like. They guys decided to order meat twinkies for appetizers - mozzarella cheese sticks inside sausage links that were deep fried. 4 came with the order and a salsa-looking dip. I'm told they were delicious. I got the Cobb salad and the guys got wings. They ordered a blend of sauces as they like both hot and BBQ. The timing of the food was good and the drinks were kept filled (I drink a LOT of diet cola). The salad was above expectations - all fresh ingredients. Grilled and cubed chicken, hard boiled egg, avocado, lots of bacon and nice mixed greens (not iceberg lettuce). They had oil and vinegar (balsamic) which was just perfect for the dressing. The wings were not the breaded kind (preferred) and were average size. Orders come in 6's. I ate my hubby's last wing and found it had a nice amount of heat. It was perfectly cooked (deep fried). We were in town for just one night, looking for a brewery with food and outdoor seating in the early evening, and found ourselves at Damsel Brew Pub. Under the (COVID-19) circumstances, it did not disappoint. Damsel has outdoor seating on the patio in front of the building, as well as on a cool balcony above. First off: our server was a hot mess, who seemed to be new on the job but familiar with the industry (when we asked about a good place for a nightcap later, she recommended several neighborhood bars at which she also worked.) As soon as she approached our table she asked if we minded if she takes off her mask. I did, I said so, and she left it on. I thought she was perhaps impaired, but hard to say - she was definitely not professional. She knew very little about the menu. When I told her my choice of dressing for my salad, she insisted I try another one instead, then finally settled on giving me both. She overshared about her personal life, and overstepped boundaries when asking about ours (even as she was seating us, she asked if the man with me was "you know, WITH you - wink wink" and commented on what she perceived to be an age difference.) She had to leave unexpectedly before her shift ended, but the owner was quick to apologize and take care of us. I felt like he was aware of her issues and keeping an eye on the situation. The food was pub food - generously portioned, mostly fried, and just fine for accompanying the wonderful beer list. Salads were big, with more meat than greens. The tenderloin sandwich was pretty ridiculous - a thin patty about 8" wide, with a half-inch slab of onion on a standard burger bun. The beer was very good. Other reviews here have detailed brews and styles, so read on for all that :-) I appreciate that the beer list had a good description of each brew, and we tried several as we enjoyed the parkside view and the setting sun. What I found most striking is that this is a new establishment with an already-dated, sexist theme. It opened as Maiden, then the name was changed to Damsel. The whole gendered thing is overdone, and quite frankly feels patronizing and objectifying. Each beer is given a woman's first name - some common names, and some to refer to a celebrity or character. So guys come in and say "I want to try a little Lauren - I hear she's got good head har har" and all... jeez. If the Maiden name was a mistake, how is Damsel - a helpless young virgin, often in distress and needing the aid of a man - any better? If this place really wants to be progressive and cool, they should ditch the whole chick thing. Hire servers not for their hotness but for their ability to show up sober and competent and stay til their shift ends and wear the mask without complaint and not assess my date's looks. And for cryin' out loud, get rid of the modified female symbol as a logo. Please and thank you! read more

I moved away from Evansville a little over a decade ago, but I still pop in occasionally to see family and cruise through my old stomping grounds. While the nostalgia that comes with visiting The Book Broker and TF Ice Cream will never get old, I'm also thrilled with Evansville's progress in recent years. Damsel Brew Pub is undoubtedly one of the best businesses that's cropped up in those years since I moved away, and I wouldn't hesitate to call it one of Evansville's must-visit establishments. This really is a brewery that has it all: a prime location on Evansville's magnificent West Side, an ample variety of creative and delicious beers, a selection of well-maintained pinball machines, and even my beloved (unironically, I swear) Malört. The stouts are Damsel's highlight in my opinion, and you'll also have no shortage of crowd-pleasing beers like blonde ales and the Noel radler. But you really owe it to yourself to try their wilder concoctions, which are invariably better than they sound. I was more than a little reluctant to try "Kandi," a winter ale with a healthy dose of peppermint, yet I've found myself frequently craving it since. Damsel's atmosphere is also terrific and throws a bucket of cold water on the idea that Evansville "can't be cool". The murals outside are lovely and stand out amidst the old-school joints along Franklin Ave and its surrounding blocks. The interior is kept in tip-top shape and, like all the best pubs, has a quiet dignity to it. Friendly staff and a strong lineup of spirits round out the Damsel experience. It's too bad Ski already claimed the title of "West Side Water," because Damsel's beer would certainly deserve that distinction. read more

Stopped in Maiden's for a beer while in Evansville. Previous to this visit, Maiden's has been one of my favorite places to visit in Evansville. This visit I tried several one ounce samplers looking for something to order as a pint. For some reason, most all their current beers have been brewed with unusual flavorings added. Instead of going through each beer sample one by one, I'll give a couple examples. The Maiden's Dixie is an Amber Ale brewed with Grippo's BBQ spicy potato chips. I normally love Maiden's Amber Ale, but this particular beer had a nasty bite at the finish and burned the back of my throat. The Maiden's Lauren is an Altbier that's been aged in a bourbon barrel spiked with vanilla. I normally love Albiers, but this particular style tasted more like vanilla than a beer. Just my opinion. Hopefully, our next visit to Evansville, Maiden's will have more of their traditional tasty beers. read more

After taking a look at both their beer and food menu, we decided to order only one round of drinks and an order of cheese curds. We weren't really impressed with either menu. I ordered the Sammie, which was a PB&J wheat ale. It was a very interesting beer, that actually tasted like the sandwich. We're both just very hoppy/Juicy IPA drinkers and this brewery was lacking. I gave it a 4 simply because the service wasn't the greatest. I say that because although the staff were very cordial and polite, they seemed overwhelmed and it wasn't that busy. The entire experience was top notch (and I am very picky about service)! The vibe was fun and unique. From our booth with an antique door to the one of a kind food selections, this place is a must! The hubs had meat Twinkies-yes, meat Twinkies! It was sausage with cheese oozing out the middle and deep fried! What's not to love? We ate and drank at Damsel's yesterday, and it was an overall pleasant experience. Abbey was a very good server. My wife's pulled pork leaned toward the "sweet bbq" flavor profile which she enjoyed. I ordered a peanut butter burger... a novelty item that is becoming less and less novel as more bars offer a version. This particular burger included bacon and jalapeños. I was worried about the jalapeños overpowering the flavor, but they were actually fairly mild. All the flavors complemented one another nicely. The wings were awesome...lemony peppery goodness. The cheese curds were typical fried and squeaky. My friend said the nachos were just okay. The fake nacho cheese does not mix well with the BBQ sauce though the pulled pork was fine. Service was great! Many beers, of course, to try. The server told me their food was excellent and I overheard someone say they had great fish n chips. Idk where these people have been eating but if they think that's good fish n chips they need to get out more. Skip the fish if you go here. Other than the food we ordered the place was great. Oh, wait, I hated the music. It was that scream music. It was terrible. Saving grace is that it wasn't loud and you could still talk. I had the Wrath Burger (a good kick but not overbearing) and my wife had The Western (bbq burger)-both were good. Buns were toasted and buttery. Served with a large portion of natural cut fries. They were playing early to mid-2000's sob rock (think 3 Days Grace or Theory of a Deadman) fairly loudly. It didn't fit the atmosphere to me. Bonus was the pinball machines. Maidens Brewer and Pub was a last minute idea while we were meeting some friends for a drink. We had our Great Dane with us so we knew we had to have a place with outdoor seating. Our friends, being local to the area suggested Maidens. The staff was beyond friendly to our pup and even brought out water for boy. The beer menu was above par, with several styles to choose from. Every brew my group and I tried was pretty good. The food was just as good. We tried the pretzel bites and the pulled pork nachos. Both were delicious! Where to start ... We loved the $1 sample flight glasses. That's the one star. Our waitress was sweet. Totally not her fault that she was new and maybe didn't know that onion rings shouldn't be served 10 shades over brown. We were a party of 6 adults and 4 children. So to start we had the meat fries, which were basic fries smothered in pulled pork. Pretty good. We also tried the pretzels, the scotch egg, and the meat Twinkies. The scotch egg was a boiled egg then battered and fried, served with a horseradish sauce that had hardly any horseradish. It was just ok. The meat Twinkies my husband thought was ok. Not impressed but not bad. The kids LOVED the pretzels. I had the fish and chips. The fish was over fried, gummy, and not edible. Not much to say about fries. My husband had the fried chicken breast sandwich with onion rings. It was ok. Honestly, maybe the safe bet, just without the onion rings, since those were over fried to the point that they were also inedible. The same burnt shade of brown as the fish. How a cook could serve these and think they were ok is beyond me. My daughter had the kids quesadilla which was served buried under tortilla chips. She loved the chips. We made her eat at least one piece of the quesadilla since we were paying for it. Let's just say it didn't stay down. On our bill were these three dishes, a large order of the meat fries, maybe 8 flights, and I had a damsel mule. The bill was over $70 and was mostly inedible. We don't ever send food back so we did tell the waitress at the end in hopes she knows that foodwas way overcooked. Overall, the beer and drinks were cold. The food was typical bar fare but not very good bar fare. Go for a variety of beer and full bar, don't go hungry. Your review will probably be much better than mine. I have been to a couple breweries around town and this one has got to be one with some of the best food around. I did not have a chance to try any of the beers, but from what my friends said they were delightful. For our app, we had fried cheese curds and they were fresh out of the fryer and crispy. Definitely will be getting those again. For my entree, I had the fish platter which came with tartar sauce and fries. The fish was a huge, as long as my forearm, and fried to a perfect crisp. Great up and coming restaurant for the Franklin street area. The atmosphere is nice--great tables, large seating available, patio space. The branding seems to be on point. The service staff was kind and friendly. I believe Maiden is in a transition period in the kitchen, and that is 100% okay. The establishment does not have a liquor license, which is not a cause for alarm because of the wide beer selection. The food was average. We started with the pub pretzel and beer cheese, which didn't necessarily have a lot of flavor. I had the etouffee po'boy, which also did not have a ton of flavor. I have high hopes that this pub will continue to exist and get in a groove in the kitchen. Can't wait to see where this place is at in a couple months. I'll be there to try again! read more

The atmosphere here is great, it's a small looking place off Franklin in the heart of Evansville featuring a nice bar, great room upstairs & cute patio space. The workers are all very friendly. The selection of Beer is constantly changing- a while back they even had a beer that was featuring GRIPPOS! The owner of the business even comes out to socialize with the patrons. They sell tasters of the beer for $1 each & crawlers to take home. Three crawlers gives you a free custom koozie to bring home. The crawlers are canned right in front of you at the bar.
