THIS IS STEVE BEAM (the business owner) WITH A FEW TIPS ABOUT MY COMPANY. first off: I DO NOT DO: Roofing, Flooring (tile, carpet, etc.), Appliance Repair, Furnace or A.C. repair, countertops, masonry work (bricks, concrete sidewalks), Flood or Mold remediation. these things are better left to those who specialize in these things. I am a perfectionist and I am secure enough to say that my skill level in these items is not pro quality enough that I am comfortable selling them to my customers. Secondly: I primarily do small jobs. ranging from ONE HOUR to ONE WEEK. This is a very small company with only 2-3 employees therefore we don't take on very large jobs like full basement finishes etc. I like to keep my self available with a maximum wait time of 2-3 weeks. My reputation is everything to me and my success in this field has been largely based on my level of service and quality.THEREFORE i will NOT cut corners on any job. If a customer asks me to do it the "cheapest way possible" and that way in any way is; Not safe, sloppy, or not up to my quality standard, I will decline. DRYWALL REPAIRS: I am very good at drywall repairs and I can match most textures very well. Something to keep in mind however with drywall repairs is that it is nearly impossible to match a texture exactly. ESPECIALLY if the patch is a small area on a larger wall surrounded by the original textures. In order to make a very fluid looking texture, sometimes a larger area needs to be retextured, the whole wall or area if possible. PAINTING: If your job includes painting here are a few things to consider: 1. all areas that are repaired or all new materials need to be PRIMED and PAINTED. Some paints have paint and primer in them. THESE ARE MORE EXPENSIVE PAINTS!!! but they are more expensive for a reason. They are much easier to work with. If you have paint already, that is fine but if it is a cheap paint, or if you supply me with cheap paint to work with I will have to increase the labor cost to balance out the extra coats it will require. If you do NOT have the paint for your project that is fine but I will need to take a piece of your wall with me the store to have it matched. there will ALWAYS be an hourly charge attached to this. I AM NOT LOOKING TO SELL YOU ANYTHING EXTRA: I want to provide you with the highest quality service while offering you sensible options. I want YOU to be happy with what is being done. If I offer any advice it is because I think it is the better option, or that you can save some money by doing so. BE READY TO SPEAK TO ME: I understand that most people don't know the lingo or verbage of handyman work or construction and that is fine. However here are a few things that you can do to be ready to present your job to me: 1. HAVE PICTURES! if you have something that needs to be repaired have a picture of what is being repaired, or replaced. also please know or have a link to what you intend to replace it with. you cannot have too many pictures for me. the more pictures the better idea I can get of what is going on. 2. TEXTING! I communicate with 95% of my customers through text. this helps us keep accurate records of things discussed and is a means to send the pictures of your job to me. if you do not have the means to text me that is fine also, we will make it work. 3. ESTIMATES!!!! this one is a doozy. everyone expects free estimates and free estimates you shall have! HOWEVER, 9/10 times I do NOT need to come to your job and visibly look at what is going on. With todays technology we should be able to come to some kind of prognosis by using pictures, texts, etc.. You send me your job and your pictures, I will respond with what I THINK will be the best solution and the price of said solution. if this pricing works for your then we will schedule the work for a time that works for both of us. If i have to actually physically come look at your job please keep in mind it will greatly delay the timing of that job. 4. INSURANCE ESTIMATES: I no longer offer insurance estimates. I have had nothing but bad experiences with insurance companies and I do not have the resources to deal with these companies. it is a proven fact for me that more than half the estimates I do for these companies do NOT offer me any kind of return and I do not have time to spend on something that will lead nowhere. there are too many dishonest people in this world looking to take advantage of other people and I refuse to fall victim to this. 5. INSPECTION REPORTS!: I charge $100 to offer an estimate on an inspection report. this is largely because of the same reasons as the insurance estimates. if you want a written estimate for an inspection report it will be $100 payable by credit card or check and I can finish the estimate in one week from the time of receipt of the report. If you accept my estimate and use me for the work, you get the $100 back at invoicing. read more

Steve was a lifesaver to me when my poorly secured pipes burst!! I had hired Steve to do a handful of projects around my house, including fixing my leaky garbage disposal. Little did we know that the water pipes in the basement leading to the disposal were secured with ill-fitted shark bites. Any movement at all and the pipes would come loose... This very thing happened an hour after Steve left my house. Water was shooting everywhere in my basement... I called Steve in a panic and he dropped everything and came running over to help. He quickly figured out what the problem was and worked with me over the next few days to fix the issue. I was so relieved that he was willing to help me in my time of need and of course he didn't charge me for the time it took him to do this. There was another big favor Steve did for me when things took a turn for the unexpected. The same day he was scheduled to fix a few drywall patches, I had a new washer/dryer delivered. The dryer didn't work but the Home Depot deliveryman just said "maybe it's the electrical?". Steve came over, took a look, and called his electrician friend. It turned out that my electric box was't set up for a modern dryer. His electrician friend quickly fixed my box so that I could run the dryer. It would have taken so much more time and energy to find and hire an electrician on my own versus having Steve take care of it through his friend. I could tell that poorly done work bothers Steve immensely. He found a few issues with work done on my house previously and advised me on what my options were. Steve does excellent work and really cares about doing things right. He's more than fair about the amount of time he bills and understands that most people don't have a huge budget for handyman work. I needed a coax hookup relocated in our new house because Xfinity wasn't able to do the install where I was wanting. I reached out to Steve via text and he was very quick to respond. He asked for pictures so he could understand the work needed and offered a time estimate. Steve was able to get me on his schedule relatively quickly! Steve arrived on time and ready to work. I showed him where I was hoping to have the coax installed and the crawl space where the cable would be routed through. He helped me see possible options on where we could do the install based on the limitations of my house and wall material. We ended up installing the coax connection in a much better place and also added an additional power outlet. I had a ton of questions about this job and Steve was able to answer them all. Our crawl space has a high and narrow entrance that is right next to the water heater. It's a terrible, inconvenient entrance that is tough to get a step ladder near. Steve recognized this and decided to build us a custom ladder measured exactly to the space. He went out to his truck, used some wood he had on hand, his battery-powered tools, and went to work. A little bit later we had a ladder that was a perfect fit that he was able to use with ease. Steve had every tool he needed and was able to do the job very efficiently and quickly. He cleaned up thoroughly after he was done and left the place cleaner than before. Even after the job was finished, Steve stayed and fixed an issue we were having with a door and answered a bunch of additional questions I had about future projects. Steve did excellent work for us. It was such a relief to be able to work with a professional who obviously CARES about doing QUALITY WORK and still understands the customer's budget concerns. We were BEYOND PLEASED with how easy it was to contact him about our project. He answered our phone call, asked for a few text and email pictures/info of our space and supplies and then he was able to schedule us for work. COMMUNICATION from that point on remained CLEAR AND PROMPT. We were a little nervous to be paying someone hourly (though this seems pretty standard for handyman companies) and not being sure how that time would be spent...No need to have had the slightest concern! Steve worked practically non-stop and so efficiently. He checked with us at several stages of the project to give options that would effect the amount of time he would be working. When he made a trip to Home Depot, he checked in by text. He even "clocked in/out" for lunch via text while he was out. He set up an organized work station and protected our wood floors. At the end of the day, he thoroughly cleaned up the entire area. Steve replaced a bathroom vanity (including cutting away some mid-wall trim), installed the new faucet, re-routed wiring for the bathroom light, patched the drywall (with a perfect match to the old, odd texture) and replaced our kitchen faucet as well. He made numerous improvements to the plumbing that was currently there and explained the reasoning for anything he replaced. The end result was better than we could have hoped. I often use yelp as a tool for finding new businesses and restaurants, but I've never actually left a review before now. We're in the middle of remodeling our home, and we have had painters, wood floor refinishers, plumbers, and contractors in and out of our house since for the past 2 months. I'm a woman who works from home, so I'm here most of the time when people are working on the house. By-and-large the men we've hired don't talk me through what they're going to do or they talk down to me when I ask questions. Steve spoke to me like I am a competent person capable of having an intelligent conversation with him about the work he's doing and he helped me make informed decisions. He was here for just a small job - installing a new dryer vent for me - but he didn't rush and he made sure it was done right. When he had to make an unexpected trip to the hardware store and got stuck in a really long line he deducted the time from the hourly rate he was charging for this job even though I certainly didn't expect him to. After all the experience I've had with workers these past couple months, I'm happy if someone just shows up when they say they will, do everything they said they were going to do, and clean up after themselves. Anyone who's had major work done on their house knows how rare that is. Steve did all those things while treating me and my home with respect, and for that I'm extremely grateful. He might be busy and get booked up quickly, but that's probably because a handyman with honesty and integrity is hard to come by. I hired Steve to redo our connections for Washer/Dryer and to stack them up . It turned out to be a bigger job than we had anticipated as the original job done on the Dryer was a mess and Steve ended up sorting out all that too . He had a very good handle on what needed to be done , even though the job involved Plumbing, Electrical work and tearing down some of the wall. It ended up being a 2 day job, instead of 1 that Steve had quoted for, and we had to renegotiate, but Steve charged only the minimum. He even cleaned up after him on the first day , though we were okay with the cleaning being done only after the work was completed. He was a thorough professional, and he would be my first choice of handyman, whenever I need something done. I have tried other handymen before Steve, but this is the best that I have seen in 1) Completeness of work, we could start doing the laundry and the place of work was neat and clean. 2) Making sure everything he did was safe and secure, and not prone to give trouble later. 3) required no supervision, as he knew what he had to do and anything extra material that was required, he went and picked up himself. 4) Checked back to see if we had any issues. read more

We had a water heater closet separating our kitchen and dining room that we wanted removed to put a breakfast bar in its place as we switched the tank out for a tankless water heater that lives in a bedroom closet instead. Steve and his crew removed the closet, reframed and reinforced the ceiling and floor, did the drywall and texture, installed and leveled the cabinets, installed hanging pendant lights and outlets, and installed a butcher block countertop. I wish I still had the before pictures because the change improved the flow of the space so much. He discussed options to fit our budget and to ensure we could come in as close to our ideal result as our budget allowed us to. He has great vision for what a space can be before a project even starts. He can look at a space and really see the finished project, which made the whole process feel really smooth from start to finish. He communicated with us really well and was very professional. I'm really distrustful of most contractors because I've had so many bad experiences with them, but Steve is the real deal and we are going to use him again for an upcoming bathroom remodel project as well. I found and contacted Steve Beam Handyman through Yelp, was impressed by his previous reviews, and have not been disappointed. Steve responded quickly to my Yelp message and has been very responsive by text and phone, including providing a reasonable price estimate based on some pictures I sent him. We had to reschedule once, but that was easy, and he showed up right on time for our appointment, texting me ahead of time to let me know he was on his way. He completed some drywall repair work - required after some damage (some intentional, some not) left by an electrician a few weeks ago - including patching and texture, and the work came out great. The repairs all look good, and he cleaned up the work area well. While at my house, Steve kindly helped me investigate a new (unexpected) plumbing issue and resulting wall damage, and he helped me set a plan for remediation. I plan to use him for that additional work. Steve is professional and easy to work with. I contacted Steve based on the positive Yelp reviews. After meeting him, I realized that everything said about him was true. He is honest, reliable, knowledgeable and professional. I called Steve to remove a bathroom vanity that was damaged by a water leak. I was immediately impressed with his thoroughness and assessment of the situation. Even though having him locate the leak wasn't part of the original plan, he took it upon himself to locate the root cause, something that four other repairman had no luck finding. The water damage turned out to be more excessive than expected and escalated into a very stressful situation. Over the next couple of days, Steve helped me figure out a plan for repairing the water damage. He assured me that he would be there to help repair my bathroom back to normal. We reached out seeking a quote and a conversation. The first message we got was highly defensive, launching immediately into how they cannot attain high quality work, just okay work. From the start they communicated NOT to expect the drywall to be repaired the way other companies say they can accomplish. A defensive start was a red flag. Of the 7 contractors contacted, ONLY this one asked for more photos. They showed no desire to visit during quoting, preferring that we send more photos, with special angles requested. Of the three quotes received after contacting 7 contractors via Yelp, this business had the HIGHEST QUOTE PRICE of anyone. Their quote was 10% above the lowest quote received. We chose their competitor because their competitor showed interest in 1) speaking to us! 2) Tehri competitor showed interest in visiting the site to SEE the work needed before quoting. This extra effort was apparently not worth the it, and it caused them to not get the job. 3) The defensiveness was alarming. 4) Above average price compared to competitors. Good luck! read more

We needed to install a gate in our fence and called Steve Beam b/c he presented himself professionally on Craigslist and the photos of his work looked remarkable. In summary, everything from beginning to end of the small project was a pleasant experience for us. Steve always communicated effectively and promptly (phone, email, text). He promptly provided a professional estimate. He completed the work at a very high level of quality, within budget, and on time. He followed up to be sure we were satisfied. He even correctly made appropriate on-the-fly decisions when we were unavailable when he tried to contact us, a testament to his independence and competence. We were so satisfied that we called him back to repair some damage to the fence prior to putting our house in Denver on the market. He again exceeded our expectations, which were high at this point. For the past few years the door from my family room to the garage has become increasingly difficult to close--banging against the threshold and requiring serious pulling up onto the threshold to close. I'd had another handyman in a year or two ago to fix it but his efforts did little to help. Then I thought of Steve Beam who had installed a new backyard gate for me 3 or 4 years ago. He came over this morning and identified the problem at once. The outer strip of the upper side of the door frame where it attaches to the upper door hinge had become splintered so that that hinge was completely loose from the frame behind that outer strip. Steve replaced the middle screw of that hinge (it seems a hinge's middle screw is the one that counts) with a much longer screw so that it now attaches to the solid wood behind the splintered strip. The door works perfectly now. Steve charged me just $20 saying he didn't feel right about charging me more. And he explained the situation and what he was doing as he went along. My house was built in 1937 and its perimeter fence seemed to be about the same age. It was unstable, dilapidated, and generally unsafe in places. Steve came highly recommended by a mutual acquaintance and we were not disappointed! Steve and his crew worked in frankly appalling weather to get the old fence removed and its replacement installed, in spite of difficulties regarding communication with our neighbor. The new fence went up fast, is solid & well-made, and looks great. We recently hired Steve and his staff to caulk a bathroom for us and hang a ceiling fan that was extremely high up. I live in New Jersey - this was for a rental property in Thornton that my family owns. Being out of state, I was extremely impressed with his clear and consistent communication. Steve was extremely professional throughout this process. When he was hanging a fan (that my sister and I bought) the wires that he had to connect were too short. He called me and gave me two options for plan B and went and bought a new fan and re-installed it.
