No trip to Denver is complete without breakfast burritos. Denver Fresh Mex seemed like a solid, no frills spot to grab one and I'm glad I found it thanks to Yelp. You can snag a discounted breakfast burrito for $2.50 and the filling changes depending on the day. I wasn't feeling the flavor of the day so opted for a bacon, egg and chile (inside) which was $6.00, along with an orange juice. The menu is pretty large and features other Mexican favorites if you're not grabbing breakfast. The burrito hit the spot. It was quite large so I didn't mind paying $6 but of course, $2.50 is a steal! There are only a few stools inside for seating and a patio outside with tables if it's not cold. Overall though, I'd say this spot is best for grab and go. There's a parking lot which makes it easy to stop in!

What a hidden gem! Hilarious that it's right out in the open but you would never know it. I was in the mood for a breakfast burrito on my morning walk so decided to look on my map for options nearby. Saw this place has good reviews and $2.50 breakfast burritos so decided to give it a go. From the outside, this place looks kind of rundown so I wasn't sure what to expect. Tip, when you go inside there is a little call bell next to the counter. You can also order from the window outside, but I only recognized that after seeing a couple guys do it. The person that came to greet me was so friendly and had a great energy about her. The service was fast - since it's only a burrito of the day, I imagine they batch prep. Coffee was really hot and good. So glad I found this place!

Exterior of the building facing Colfax

I'm thrilled that Yelp isn't destroying this place and the reviews are good and fair! The exterior of the building and deck ARE dilapidated and I wasn't entirely sure the restaurant was actually operating until checking it out recently. Give it a shot. The entrance is along Franklin, so the impression you get when driving by it on Colfax is a little misleading. Ignore the deck, a little adventure in turning a blind eye to structural soundness keeps you humble ;). CO is expensive, and this place offers a good value in comparison to what you'll get within much of Denver proper. I've gone here 5 times in the last 2 weeks. A sweet soft spoken woman always takes my order and gives me my food at the window. I expect it is family owned and operated, she has a lovely demeanor, and the food comes out fast. The exterior walk up option is great during Coronavirus times, and she always is wearing a mask. I've tried all of their $2.50 ($2.70 including tax) breakfast burritos that are offered each weekday from 7-11am. It's a bargain! To be honest, I can't really decipher a difference between them as I mostly taste the chili and potatoes more than the meat of the day, but that's fine with me. I believe they make a whole bunch of them each morning and then they sit waiting for you, but they taste fresh and are always at the right temperature, so if they've been hanging around for a couple of hours depending on what time you go, that's fine with me. I will definitely be picking up more $2.50 breakfast burritos in the future. I really think they are as tasty as a bunch of other pricier breakfast burritos you'll find around Congress and Cheeseman Park. I've also tried their $8 Chicken Burrito Smothered, which came to $8.64 including tax. I am unsure of what the difference might be between what I got and the "Smothered Deluxe" but I saved myself 50 cents in any case?! It was plenty large and filling. For my taste, I wish it was just a skosh less spicy, but I think that can be attributed to my own wimpy and classless palate more than their seasoning choices. I am not sure I'd get it again but I was happy with what I got size and cost wise, and the chicken was This is my kind of place. I hope they hang in.

Is this place a hidden gem?! I can't believe I've never been. $2.50 breakfast burrito of the day between 7-11AM on weekdays. And they're only about $5 normally. I really want to go back and try some of their other dishes :)

    Churros

Best Bang for your buck. It's a tiny little building with a grand menu with many to choose from. I opted for the beef taco and guac tostada, my cousins got a enchilada, smothered burrito, bean burrito, chips, guac, and salsa. We went to sit on the patio where there is covered seating by umbrellas. Food was given at around the 10 minute mark and we feasted. I was disappointed because I got a crispy taco rather a soft taco - I saw on reviews they had soft tacos so that's what I was expecting. The beef is actually really dry and needed to be doused with salsa. Taco Bell had more moist meat than that. The tostada had a generous amount of guacamole and a whole salad on top, however the actual taste of the guac was on the sour side and I wish they opted for a chunkier guac rather than super smooth. Because it is a mom and pop and everything's cheap, I'm not overly upset about my meal. I went back in to get some churros just to fill myself up more, and they came out piping hot and were delicious. My cousins portion were huge, their chips and salsa/guac were delivered in tubs which we did not expect. Parking is available here as well and service is nice.

This is the Michelin restaurant that you go to if you like a more casual / less stuffy experience. Food: 4 Every dish that we ordered was delicious, but slightly on the heavy side without anything light/acidic to break it up. Perhaps it's because of what we chose to order though! Frijoles Puerco: This was a play on refried beans and chorizo. The chorizo has a little kick to it. The sourdough tortillas were delicious and served fresh and warm. Callo De Hacha Al Horno: The scallops were a flavor bomb served in a serrano ponzu and tomato butter. I'm unsure why the scallops were cut into smaller pieces instead of left whole... Enmoladas De Pollo: This was essentially chicken enchiladas cooked in mole so I was skeptical if I would find this dish worthwhile. They proved me wrong as this was one of the best dishes of the night. The mole was flavorful, not too heavy, and the chicken enchilada was so well cooked. Birria De Borrego: The lamb shank was cooked until it was fork tender. After taking it apart, wrap it in a fresh and warm tortilla with refried corn beans and salsa. The lamb was well cooked and made for a good balanced bite, but it did feel special. Service: 5 We set at the chef table and was able to watch as they finished and plated each dish. The chef was attentive without being overbearing/annoying and we had a good conversation with him. Food came out at a good pace. Ambiance: 5 The restaurant is small and cozy. It didn't feel stifling or pretentious as other fine dining restaurants can sometimes feel. This would be perfect for a date or dinner with friends.

Nestled away on a small street corner of Clay Street and 32nd Ave. parking can be scarce, but I'm sure with the right time and a little bit of walking you will find and manage your way here. Outside the restaurant, they have a small seating area which now is winter too cold to enjoy, but I'm sure in the spring and summer and fall time is super enjoyable. The inside, though a little bit tiny and no cozier than going to your mom's house and expecting a family Filled living room/Kitchen. We went down and greeted by three smiling faces. We already looked at the photos online and knew we want tacos so opted with the chicken tacos and Carne Asada taco plates. The tacos place option came with 5 tacos with up to 2 choices of meats the ratio would be 2:3 .. freshly mashed guacamole made in front of you or freshly sliced avocado.. In the pictures I listed you will find each chicken and Carne Asada options. Both slow pictures missing two tacos because we devoured them as soon as we got into the truck. Their street tacos are heavenly! Chicken option was all chicken breast super juicy grilled to perfection five tacos on a plate another two tacos missing because my husband and I devoured it. The carne asada was just FULL of flavor and the fresh avocado slices with green tomatillo salsa SLAPPED.. the tortillas are super soft and tears from how fresh the flour tortillas were!!
