Denver Decks just completed the work on our new deck. From the very start to the finish the project has been great. The new deck replaced an old wooden deck that had seen it's better days. The understructure of the old deck was beginning to fail and the understructure supports the roof that covers most of the deck. Before hiring Denver Decks to do the job we used AI to recommend good deck companies in the Denver area. We contacted four companies, three responded and Denver Decks was one of those three. Our deck is 17' x 20' and the estimates to do the job were similar. We were promptly contacted and set up a meeting with Paul Koehn from Denver Decks. We met with Paul and quickly realized that he was much more that just a salesman for the company. He had built many decks before moving into sales so his knowledge of what is needed for a new deck was extensive, readily available, and we actually enjoyed discussing our project with him. Paul also indicated that Denver Decks always complies with the codes and permit process that exists for such projects in Denver. One of the companies that we contacted said that they do not pull permits for work in Denver and if something goes wrong during the process it would be our fault! Paul had lots of photos of other projects that Denver Decks had completed. The photo collection was extensive, well organized, and included pictures of stairs, railings, deck surfaces and lights that have been used in other projects. It really made it easier for us to decide what we wanted for our deck. After deciding on what we wanted for our deck the deconstruction of the old deck began and we got to meet/talk with Jay (project manager), Mike (site manager) and Jim, the craftsman for our deck. The communication throughout the project was great! The roof, that covered most of the 17'x20' deck, was supported by three 4"x4" posts that were set upon the deck surface that was supported by two 2"x8" boards on edge. I was very nervous that the aging understructure might fail and drop the roof onto the deck. Denver Decks installed 3 caissons to support the new 6"x6" posts that would now support the roof and 3 added caissons to support the outer edge of the deck. Each cement caisson was 19" in diameter and 36" deep. My worries about the roof falling ceased to exist! After the old deck was removed Jim began to build the new deck. I do not have words that can adequately express how impressed we were with the craftsmanship, construction knowledge and care that Jim displayed in building our deck. The skill that he displayed in all aspects of the construction were amazing and the best that I've ever witnessed in all of the projects that I've ever hired or been around. He built our deck the way that I would've built it if I had his knowledge, skill, equipment and his many years of construction experience! Thank you Jim! Such decks are not cheap and the price for Denver Decks to do the job was similar to that of the company that said they would not pull permits! Building a deck is one of those many situations in life where you truly do, "get what you paid for" and we didn't pay a cent until the job was finished to our satisfaction. In practice, I experienced something entirely different: building code violations, unsafe structural defects, dishonored warranties, retaliatory personal attacks, & ultimately, a refusal to stand behind their poor workmanship. I chased after these vindictive disrespectful miscreants for 18 months & they ran away from all contacts like wimp-cowards until I reported them to the Attorney General, BBB, FTC...It was then this sycophant began his pathological lies & personal attacks this wimp would only do behind my back. AI counted 38 instances of religious diatribe on his website. It takes class, courage, respect & compromise to work through conflict. Tussing's seething anger hates my guts for exposing two potentially fatal errors, horrifically warped decking due to terrible preparation of structural joists, zero safety, quick & sloppy workmanship by one inexperienced low-bid worker, a warranty that is utterly worthless & fraud estimated @ $10k in repairs he refuses to fix. As a disabled U.S. veteran living with chronic illness, I sought a safe, long-awaited deck to improve my quality of life. Instead, I endured deception, danger, stress, & regret. Code Violation: Emergency Egress Blocked Denver Decks installed a permanent ledger board across two large windows designated as emergency exits, a blatant violation of the International Residential Code (IRC), which prohibits blocking egress. Tussing later claimed, "no one knew the windows were there." Yet the worker was literally 5 inches away from the glass & could have seen his own reflection. Had I not checked the function of the windows this obstruction could have led to severe injury or death in an emergency. Pure negligence! Warped Decking & Structural Failure -- Warranty Breached The deck was completed in 12/2023 & in 4/2024 I reported decking severely warped. When I raised concerns, Tussing dismissed the damage, saying, "It's a good deck for how old it is." "If I wanted to correct it I would just be throwing money at it." That's two bizarre statements for a structure under 18 months old & covered by a 2-year warranty until 12/2025. Then he claimed the deck was off by 3/32". Tussing then contradicted himself, blaming "wood shrinkage" & minimizing the issue, claiming warping was minimal. This is demonstrably false. Multiple independent licensed professionals found damage up to 10 times worse, caused by improper joist leveling & framing. Their Product Superintendent attempted a repair in 4/2024, proving they knew there was a profound problem. Once I pressed for additional accountability he abruptly refused contact & warranty service, breaking their warranty. False Personal Attacks -- Video Evidence Proves I treated all concerned with respect via video footage from two cameras. Denver Decks ignored & created multiple safety concerns: * Built dangerously close to 240V power line, requiring Xcel Energy intervention & $3,300 electrical mast replacement I had to fund. * Installed a 60-lb window well cover I strained to move. I offered to pay for a lighter, code-compliant alternative. They refused. * Left all construction to a single, unsupervised low-bid worker despite promises of skilled oversight. The stamped patio looks beautiful. However, upon meeting with the sales guy/designer, Paul, he informed us that in order to get started on the project we would need to first hire a different company to 1)move the sewer clean out and 2)move the sprinkler valve box. We did exactly as asked but now we have water seeping out from under the poured concrete every time our sprinklers run. Now Paul wants to pass the buck and say that it's the sprinkler guys' fault when Paul is the one who told us we needed to only move the sprinkler valve box, not reroute and remove the whole sprinkler system. Furthermore, our landscaper also informed us that it was really bad of the guys who poured the concrete to completely encase the pipes in concrete. Now if it bursts or there is a problem we have no way of getting to it. I realize we got concrete and not a deck. Old deck demolish and rebuild w/ some concrete under and a concrete dog ramp w/ light railing. Cost 45k, didn't believe it was worth it. Most of my complaints were with the concrete crew, Carlos in particular. My displeasure is communicaton, time, and some items not as expected. Dog ramp steeper than expected, I was asked to come look at the ramp prior to concrete pour and assumed that would be the overal height.The concrete added a lot more height and increased the pitch and its steeper than I had hoped. The initial meeting with the concrete crew headed by Carlos and Mike from DD, I was physcially shown the height of a retaining wall, when completed it was half of the height, and on walk through I was told, "It will be ok." I requested that I put a paw print of each of my dogs in the concrete when it would be a good time. I was told by Carlos himself he would grab me to do this. The day the concrete was poured, I was never asked. I went out to find them at lunch and when I walked over to the area it was too dried to be able to do this, I was never given the opportunity and I was home, plus Carlos had my phone number. This was important to me and I relayed this in front of Mike from DD on the day of the meeting. This meeting was a Tuesday, they were to arrive the following Monday. I work nights,and Carlos wanted to come at 0700 that Monday and I told him I'd make it work. Monday I beg my boss to let me run home to get the gates open and my dogs doggy door closed with them inside, and I run home and arrive a few minutes before 0700. At 0730 and a no call or show, I head back to work making calls along the way. I call Carlos, Mike, and Paul, leave messages. Finally at a few minutes before 0800 while still at work, I call Carlos again he then proceeds to tell me he took cold medicne the night before ect. I try to tell him as a RN I am really not allowed to leave, I made a deal to go into work that night to go home and come back, Carlos hung up on me. He never apologized at all. Rude and dismissive the whole project. They didn't clean up after themselves with things that could hurt my dogs, requested, not done. He was also asked by Mike in person and in front of me that an area poured/prepped for the railings to be placed for the railings, he never did that either. The deck guys had to cut through the concrete in order to make it work. It's jagged and looks like they had to cut through it. My street had all their equipment haulers which is on wheels parked in front of both mine and my neighbors mailboxes from day one of arrival and left all the stuff overnight. On day 3 I was told by my mailman that he would no longer deliver mail to myself or my neighbors with them blocked. I requested the two haulers be moved. They put one in front of my neighbors house and one infront of my house where they remained from day one and even four days after completion they remained. Project was completed at 300pm on Friday, haulers was picked up Tuesday one at 0710 on day of walk through, and Mike from DD called to have Carlos picked up his which was done later that day several hours after he had been called. When the Concrete Carlos had one of his crew clean at the end of the project they left my water hose running for over an hour. I was sleeping in my basement, I woke up to hearing the water on at full blast. I just woke up so I looked at the clock an hour later I still hear it and when I look the hose is just laying on the side walk and used every once in awhile. Instead of sweeping up the concrete mess it was just sprayed into my yard, with hard chunks of concrete. I can't wait to get my water bill.The deck subcontractors were good, Mike P and Chris, arrived on time and cleaned up daily and finished ahead of schedule. I had zero issues with them or their work. They even tried to get me info when I wasn't able to get a hold of the many DD employees, all of whom are horrible at communication. On the first day of the project I had many people here, Jay, a DD employee came and slapped the permit on my door literlly told me I wouldn't see him again, he was correct. When I asked him questions about the concrete work, he had no clue that concrete work was being done and would have to call me later. The inspections weren't coordinated and the subcontractor, who was also not given a lot of communication went above and beyond trying to get the inspector to come out on a scheulded time. Overall, my impression is that there are too many cooks in the kitchen and no one really has a clue to what's happening. I think that is why its so much money, we are paying for people that have titles but appear to not really be doing anything. If I had to do all over, I would of hired the subcontractors independently of Denver Decks, they would have done it quicker, and for half of the cost. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! TLDR: Months-long planned project delayed by Denver Decks met with disorganization, inconvenience and insulting apologies. All they care about is getting their money for the 'finished product'. I'm beyond disappointed and angry that I have to write that as a company, Denver Decks deserves little praise and should be EMBARRASSED as to how our project was conducted. Our project that was months of planning and waiting was ultimately met with delays and confusion the moment Denver Decks started work at my home on Sept 30th. As soon as they arrived, critical materials weren't on site and would be difficult to acquire. Work was stopped no less than 5 of the first 11 working days. This resulted in undue inconvenience to my family and neighbors. Each delay was another day and night of having to walk our dog-door accustomed dogs. Each delay was another day with trailers and dumpsters in our yard and on our street. Every time a different person from Denver Decks would blame something other than themselves for their terrible planning, logistics and management. It was always their supplier, the shipper, wrong parts, unforeseen circumstance, etc. Assured our project was the 'anomaly' among many routine projects, Denver Decks would account for the inconveniences. We were WRONG. I had multiple conversations with the owner of Denver Decks who dismissed our frustrations as us 'not feeling good about it', and that it wasn't their fault and all that mattered was the final product, regardless of delays or frustration. The owner did little but deliver some of the delayed materials, arrived in a truck out of which trash fell out onto our street. He offered free upgrades that we didn't want nor matched our project specs. We then argued about potential adjustments to the original bid which of course were balked at by the owner. My follow-up texts went unanswered. A day later I was personally having to sign for and receive the delivery of some of these delayed materials (due to Denver Decks absence). My name spelled wrong on the delivery invoice no less. 3-1/2 weeks after our existing deck was demolished did my family finally have a safe and live-able deck. The carpenters themselves did great work and their craftsmanship was exceptional. But they were new to working for Denver Decks and appeared frustrated with their lack of organization and leadership from the Denver Decks back office. Things seemed tense for the onsite crew and Denver Decks throughout this project as the carpenters found themselves the middle-men between myself and the Denver Decks project team at times. Completely unprofessional. On Oct 24th, our project was finally finished. It passed the inspection by the city and our Denver Decks foreman presented us the final bill for payment. To our satisfaction the final price was meaningfully lower than our original price and we took that as an apology and recognition for the hassle during the project. We signed a check in the multiple tens of thousands of dollars and shook hands thinking Denver Decks ultimately did right by my family and our home. Calling family and friends to celebrate, mentioning that despite our trouble, all was well. Denver Decks made our project whole. We were again WRONG. A mere hour or so later, the same Denver Decks foreman I had just paid said that they had forgotten something on the final invoice and if he could just swing back by to pick up a 4-figure check for the difference. Effectively demanding payment in-full for a deck and pergola that came with delays, mistakes, headaches and excuses. Outrageous!!! You can get a quality deck from Denver Decks for a PREMIUM price. Be prepared for PREMIUM excuses, apologies and little sympathy for their disorganized and poorly managed 'business'. Hard to enjoy our new deck and pergola being so disheartened and angry by the experience. This family recommends looking elsewhere for a business that includes ethics and integrity in the price. Philip is the owner and he did all the work to get the new deck approved by our HOA and the City of Littleton... no small task. But he stayed on it and made sure all the T's were crossed and the I's dotted. The crew that built the deck did an amazing job. We had neighbors, who knew about construction, come by and tell us how good a job they were doing. The finished product completely exceeded our expectations. Jim actually did all of the construction work on the pergola--this guy is a BEAST. I mean that because he essentially built the entire thing himself which is super impressive. I hired Denver Decks to build my deck in my back yard. They removed a poorly done patio (by another company) and replaced it with a deck I love. Jim did a wonderful job and answered all of my questions. He took his time and did it the right way. I got a few different bids and they weren't the most expensive or cheapest and I'm happy I chose them. I would definitely use them again in the future. We wanted to demo a deck off the 2nd floor and put in a larger patio cover. The salesman made all sorts of promises. We were scheduled for the 1st week in May. Imagine our surprise when we got a call on April 9th, saying they wanted to start a month early. My husband & I scrabbles to get them everything they needed, including a new window and 2 fan/light fixtures. I was told they'd start Monday. Monday lunchtime, I go home to find out where they want stuff. Surprise, no crew; no one has been there. I call. They got backed up. Jim walked around the house at 5 pm & left some ladders. More excuses in the subsequent days. 9 days into a one week project & Jim has worked 3 days total. I wrote an e-mail to the manager, the salesman, the foreman & Jim. I was basically chewed out by the manager of the company. Meanwhile Jim continued to work solo on this project. At no point we're we given a schedule, a plan, or consulted about what we wanted. End result: they tore off my Grey James Hardie siding & replaced it with something the color of swamp water. The window was installed with dings and splits in the molding. My back yard was trashed. And our 1-week project took 3 weeks. But at least the foreman tried to pretend that we passed Denver inspection, when we had not. If you do business with this company, make sure you get the inspection report, signed off on by your city. You cannot trust this company's word. read more

*** PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID, READ FIRST *** We hired Denver Decks to build a Shade cover for our patio. We had there salesman come out and look at our patio. We asked all the right questions. We explained we wanted our patio covered so that we could get a decent amount of shade, as our patio faces south. Were told by his salesman "P---" that "We would have complete shade" Those were his exact words. Also seeing that his company states they are "Believers" we thought we were going to get just what we were told. We were NOT given what we were originally told by "P---" there lead salesman. We were not given complete shade, not even close!! We spent over $7600 for something that looks nice, but doesn't shade the patio. We even spent more money to get the cover with louvered panels to insure more shade. When the sun goes in the back yard of our house, later afternoon about 90% OF OUR PATIO IS IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT, which prevents us from enjoying our patio, unless you want to sit in direct sunlight! Sure in the morning times, the patio is shaded pretty good, as the sun isn't near the patio. We contacted Denver Decks about the afternoon sun and his salesman "P---" stated in an email reply "What we would normally recommend installing a drop shade" They told me to buy a drop shade to shade my patio after giving them over $7600!! Look @ my photo below of the of the patio and tell me if the patio cover shades the patio, and if you would be happy. I live on a corner lot, with a split rail fence where you can see my patio cover and my backyard very clearly. Many of my neighbors have asked how I like my patio cover, and I tell them that it was a complete waste of money and to be careful which company you choose. Please - Do not make the same mistake I did. Don't believe everything your told by companies, even if they claim they are Believers. I could not be more excited to write this review of Denver Decks. We have been wanting to replace our original-to-the-house, builder-grade deck for a while now and had aspirations of expanding the deck to be a size that could accommodate comfortable outdoor living space both above and below. Our experience with Denver Decks was top notch from beginning to end. While bidding the project, Paul came to our house and was incredibly patient with my husband and myself - both very indecisive when it comes to aesthetic decisions and generally we are full of questions! Paul answered everything and provided documentation where necessary. He provided material samples and recommendations, documentation and directions for pulling permits, and CAD renderings of the potential deck onto the back of our house. Once we settled on the design, he directed us to a location in Aurora where we could see larger color samples in person, which was incredibly helpful for the decision making process. He also helped to make design recommendations, and they were great recommendations indeed! He also helped to provide all the documentation to provide to our HOA for design approval. Regarding price, we had 5 companies quote our project. One was a massive outlier to the high end, one was $5-$10k higher, and Denver Decks and two others were all right in line with each other within $1000. Overally, I found their price to be very fair for the project, in-line with others we spoke to, and easy to understand/clearly outlined in the bid. The crew on our project was Wagner, Rodrigo & Alex and I cannot say enough positive things about these three men. The deck itself is built well, very sturdy, and they clearly paid attention to details to make the deck come out nicely. They considered everything from supporting the bricks on the house, to the expansion/contraction of materials. They made recommendations on the care and maintenance of the deck and explained different areas. They handled every interaction with inspectors. The clean-up was thorough and they even power washed the patio and checked for rogue materials/screws so our dog would not get hurt in the backyard after the project wrapped. On top of everything else, they were fully available during the days to answer questions or discuss anything about the project - design, timeline, status, etc. One thing that was important to us was to have the deck built to code, as it was a second story deck. Denver Decks took care of everything related to code - the design, pulling the permit and working with inspectors - and kept us informed along the way. Other folks that we spoke with did not seem to have the same attention to code detail as Wagner and his crew did, and they not only seem knowledgeable about code, but they had zero hesitation when we requested that permits be pulled for the work (other companies we had spoken to in the bid process seemed very reluctant on this score, which confused us!). As far as the finished product, we could not be happier with the deck. It looks wonderful, the design recommendations that Paul made during the quoting stage were great additions, and it looks as though it is part of the house - not an add on. Denver Decks was hands down the most professional, courteous, talented, and thorough crew we've ever worked with. We asked our neighbor who did their deck because we got a scam from other deck vendor that took 50% percent of the project as DP but ended up Mile high Deck did not do the job and just ran away with my $21,000. The owner is Ryan Richmond so be careful with that. My neighbor told me Denver Deck that required NO MONEY at all until project completed so I called Paul and set up appt and they assigned Jim who did amazing job and finally our dream deck is done and we are happy!! I learned from Mike High Decks scam that I do not want to pay any money to any contractor who require 50% down payment because they could be the scammer. We had the Denver Decks build us a shade arbor and lay concrete in our backyard last fall and they did a great job. They came out beforehand and consulted on what size and shape we might like for the ambience we were looking to achieve. They did an amazing job of blueprinting everything out and giving us copies to get approved by our HOA. When it came time to do the work they were fast and paid close attention to detail. Our shade arbor/patio turned out exactly as we wanted and the work was done promptly with polite and thoughtful workers. I would definitely use them again on future products. I've read reviews that they may be a bit pricey but I think you get what you pay for and these guys did a great job. read more

Overall we had a terrific experience with Denver Decks. They were very communicative, very straightforward, and clearly took the time to consider all aspects of the project in estimating the effort. We ran into a little snafu where three sprinkler lines were cut clean through when the caissons were being dug out so we had to call our sprinkler company to come perform emergency repairs, but overall extremely pleased with the quality of the deck. Denver Decks recently built a custom deck for us on our very complicated, multi-elevation property. They worked with us frequently to solve the problems and challenges our unique property gave them.
