Part of the underside of the deck is protruding messing with the overall ascetic. Skirts broken, poor quality, fell off a couple of times. I asked for replacements. They said they'd get it done. It's been two months. Didn't clean up after themselves and left screws scattered in the lawn for my one year old to find. Putting a new deck on our home was a big decision and expense. I had found this company on yelp. At the beginning all good they did the work over 19k for my moms front and rear small decks. She did Trek decking paid a ton which is fine but less than 6 months after the top of the rail where you would rest your hands or elbow is splintering wood. They don't seal or paint or do anything... we called and we got we don't warrenty anything at all even less than 6 months after. My mom emailed Cody and he didn't even email her back. He did in fact tell my husband since they had met at a job site that they don't warrenty anything. He won't be referring him to anymore jobs either. Do not EVER use Denver Deck Builders! We have had troubles from the beginning with our deck, and they do not stand behind their workmanship, material, or finished product. A year after our deck was built, they will not offer any help in correcting mistakes that they made. Every time I walk on the deck I regret going with them. The deck is not solid and will be needing replacement joists after one year. I called them and all Tyler told me was "good luck". I chose not to pursue my deck project with Denver Deck Builders, opting instead for a concrete patio as it fit better with my yard. However my experience with Tyler and design/uoting process was excellent and I would encourage anybody in the market for a high-quality deck to consider Denver Deck Builders. I reached out to several local deck builders at the same time, some of which never got back to me. Tyler was the first to respond and schedule a home visit. During the visit he listened patiently to my grand plans for making my backyard a dreamscape and then worked with me to modify those dreams into realistic designs. June 10, 2021: The deck project began with demolition of the existing deck. This phase was completed very quickly and with minimal damage to the home, which I was concerned about. Because of the nature of the work, some damage is unavoidable. The contract indicates that damages is possible, and repairs are the homeowner's responsibility. Denver Deck Builders will perform the necessary repairs at additional expense if desired. The project continued quickly over the next several days. During the construction, I had questions about a couple of items I noticed. One item was that several of the joists were cut short. So short, that the screws that were used to secure the joists to the hangers completely missed the joists. I asked the project lead about this, and he stated that they were mismeasured, but that they would use long lag screws through the header beam into the joists as permitted by code. During the rough framing inspection, the inspector did not identify the issue and signed off on the inspection. The second issue was that one of the support posts was set below grade and after a hard rain, the post was sitting in about 4" of water. A few days later, the inspector returned to do the final framing inspection. In the meantime, the decking had been installed as well as the facia boards. I met the inspector and pointed out the fact that the lag screws I was told would be added had not been installed and asked about the post being below grade. The inspector agreed that both items should be corrected and failed the inspection. The response from the project lead was confusion over the issues that should have been identified by the inspector during the rough framing inspection, not that the items should be repaired to ensure the safety and longevity of the deck. Both items were corrected and passed a re-inspection. One section of railing we asked to have done as a wall instead of normal railings. This is where I asked that the gas line be installed, which I ended up doing myself. The 2x8 cap that was installed for this wall was a horrible piece of wood that was full of knots and inconsistent width. I ended up replacing it myself with a better piece of lumber. When I confronted the project lead about the board, he simply stated that that was the best board he was able to find. Now that the framing inspection was complete, the railings and roof framing proceeded. I watched lumber being dragged up to the deck over the railings as well as the railings being used as sawhorses to cut framing for the roof. This resulted in my brand-new metal railing be seriously marred to the point that some of the paint (powder coat) was completely removed down to the bare metal. I confronted the project lead about this and was told that it happens all the time and that they would touch up the paint before they were finished. Additionally, the brand-new deck boards were full of scratches from the lack of care taken to protect them during the roof construction and later the stone installation. I had also contracted a gate at the top of the stairs that could not be installed due to an ADA handrail that was required by code. Instead of addressing the issue, I was left with the gate and hardware and told that I could choose to remove the ADA railing and install the gate later, which I agreed to. The stairs do not land completely on the pad that was poured for them. The inspector approved them as is since the stairs are not my primary ingress/egress to the home. The pad also has a low spot that collects water. The project lead offered to grind the edges down, but I opted to leave it as is and will replace the pad myself at some point. The roof was connected to my home without removing any of the existing siding and that left large gaps between the existing siding and the new roof trim. I asked about this and was told that the roofer would finish those gaps. Well, the roofer did nothing to address them as I expected. I spoke with the roofer and asked about gutters, which he said would be completed by a different contractor. When the project lead was back, I asked about the gutters and was told that they would be installed soon. At this point, the Denver Deck Builders had completed the roof and soffits and installed a down spout for the gutter as well as framed the columns for the stone wrap. The project lead said that their work was done and asked for payment. I said I would make payment once the deck was completed, and all my concerns had been addressed. I asked the project lead about making repairs need to the siding on the home that needed repairs after the demo. He agreed to make all the repairs for an additional price that I agreed to. The repairs were made, but to my surprise, they used silicone instead of paintable caulk! I had a painter scheduled to come paint the new roof and do touch ups on the repairs. Can you show me the span table for the type of lumber selected? Are you accounting for deflection, or will my deck feel like a trampoline? Have you considered the snow load? -Do you train your employees to follow manufacturer's installation requirements? Will you provide your employees with a copy specific to the products they are installing on the job site? -In the last 10 years have you been in litigation due to one of your projects? -Will you replace the deck boards if you used an unapproved chalk and permanently stained the decking? -Do you call and schedule 811 before you dig? You state that you are not responsible for sprinkler, cable, or phone lines being cut, will you schedule and pay for a qualified repair technician if you damage any of these items? -Will you clean up the job site at the end of each day? We are looking to put a deck on our house. We scheduled time for Tyler to come out and provide us a quote. The initial time did not work for him because he got double booked. We push the scheduled meeting out 1 day to meet his schedule. Unfortunately a work meeting was schedule that conflicted with the time we had set. I read through other reviews, and spoke with neighbors who (one had work done by them....it was very shoddy) and others who had a bad experience even getting a quote as well. I don't believe you should speak to people rudely or treat them like they are stupid because of the accent I have. I know how to negotiate and it was a battle convincing them we had the finances for them to even come out- so stay away if you are not a millionaire. They won't even service you in Aurora, because too poor area, again! Tyler Gibas backed out of a deck project two weeks before the start date after we waited about a month. The contract he sent was different from the estimate and the project requirements that were discussed. He didn't take notes during our initial meeting and he didn't remember what the scope of the project was so the contract was missing details. I emailed him some simple questions and he couldn't answer them and got upset and decided to walk away from the job. Tyler was rude and unprofessional. I purchased the materials for the project and now I'm stuck with the materials and have to start all over by getting new bids for our deck. Tyler completely wasted our time. If I could give negative stars for the review I would. I would NOT recommend Denver Deck Builders to anyone. Nobody should have to go through what we went through.
