Another couple of customers walked in to the waiting room and we all wait a few more minutes until a server finally noticed us and walk us each towards available booths. The busser appeared to take my drink order: coffee and water. The coffee was great, the busser left an entire pot at my table plus a dishful of creamer; I drank most of it with relish. A while later my server appeared to take my food order: steak and (over-easy) eggs, with a side of hash browns and English muffin, and after few minutes she drops off my entree. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and the English muffin was toasty with a generous smear of butter (just the way I like it). The steak looked beautiful; mahogany and glistening with juice; the edges were tender but the rest of the steak inedible because it was all gristle; it was pretty disappointing. I felt so cheated; so, as nostalgic as I felt about the Empire Diner and as decent as the service was, it'll be some time before I consider returning because this wasn't the best dining experience I had there.
