When it came out, the steak was smaller than I expected and pretty chewy. It also seemed much leaner than what I usually expect from a ribeye, with very little marbling. The place is right out of a movie (maybe "Roadhouse" or "Urban Cowboy minus the mechanical bull). It's part biker bar, part honky Tonk, pub, and cocktail bar. We came for the burgers and were not disappointed. They were absolutely solid and worth it in every way. The nice, fresh beef patty was grilled to perfection and set in a soft bun with all the usual trimmings. I'd recommend you add thousand island for an extra touch of goodness. The resulting burger was juicy and meaty and drippy and excellent. It was not a throwaway "bar-food" item. The menu has a lot of great things in it, including sandwiches and all manner of comfort food and bar staples. A big surprise were the onion rings and ranch dressing. They were some of the best I'd had in a while. I found them better than the fries which were fairly standard. Others have complained about the service, but ours was really good at lunchtime on a weekday. Our server was also the bartender, and she was attentive and nice, albeit busy with all the workers that frequent this joint. It's filled with a mix of blue-collar, cops, office people, truckers, bikers, and just plain folks. And they play some great songs on the jukebox. Definitely worth it. It is family owned, and the servers are knowledgeable about the menu and very fun. I tried the Hawaiian Portuguese sausage and eggs, I love the flavor of the sausage, and I really like their house made potatoes. They have really big omelettes and breakfast skillets. And as you can see, we shared the banana pancakes as a family. Definitely a nice place to go with family. Or on your own for a great breakfast or lunch.

Sweet coleslaw is already a divisive concept, and this one doubles down with chunks of pineapple thrown in for reasons I can only describe as chaotic. If tropical fruit in your coleslaw is your thing, go for it. If you have any savory coleslaw loyalty whatsoever, order literally anything else. The ambiance is pure nostalgia, antiques everywhere you look, sandwiched on both sides by an antique shop, which is fitting because this whole place feels like a time capsule in the best possible way. And for my fellow vinyl collectors, this is a hidden gem. I turned around approximately six times and found a new box of records every single time. I did not come here expecting to go digging, but I am absolutely coming back to do exactly that. Apparently I cannot go anywhere without finding another way to spend money on albums. I did visit MacAlpine's in the past and occasionally do so now and I loved every time I came here…read more I would usually visit here with my mother (now deceased 2024) and she would especially enjoy herself when we would come here, as she grew up in Phoenix went to Phoenix Tech high school in the 1950's - often coming here to MacAlpine's as a teenager. To hear her reminisce about those times long ago was awesome and to have her say that this place hasn't changed much was equally as awesome.
