The gentleman quoted me $1,695 in labor, as all the parts would be reused just refitted. I left work early, drove down there, disassembled, cleaned, and refitted them myself in 45 minutes. Guys showed up on time and worked quickly, though I did have to remind them to backfill the lawn properly (initially just left a hole there, and the ground rod was barely covered). Dealing with Dave Watkins was a whole other experience. Told him I was going with a different electrician I had worked with prior, and he made many assurances that he would definitely beat the price (told me the range provided on Yelp was "just a number," which was the first red flag). On the day of the service, refused to talk to me on the phone or via text when I asked to discuss the price. Then one week later, gave a price that was higher than initially discussed and that I should reference an "invoice" he sent (he never sent one). When I attempted to discuss the pricing with him, finally, he became aggressive and threatened to put a lien on my house. He then stated that he stands by the quote even if it was half a million dollars. His reason for a higher price was "extra work"; in fact we had discussed the work ahead of time, and it was a standard part of the job (a bonding bridge), making me concerned that he would not have completed the job with required parts if I hadn't reminded him to add it. My experience of working with Dave Watkins is that he will make empty promises, not communicate properly, come up with invoices after the fact, claim that things have happened which did not, and escalate to threats instead of having a conversation with people. I eventually paid the bait and switch amount that he demanded after his threats, but I would hate for anyone else to end up in that position. I would never work with this company again.

Their estimate also came in among the lowest and it was the most detailed explanation of what they would be doing. During the process they kept me appraised regularly and clearly about the many changes ( Not their fault - the guy who DIY-ed the electric in our house was clearly inept) Everyone who came to the house over the three week process to get everything repaired was polite and helpful. They definitely made dealing with a stressful situation manageable and the guarantee on their work gives me piece of mind. Highly recommended if you need Electric work! He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill.
