These guys were great! Installed 5 fans, 1 island light and 1 new outlet for a TV. All in just a few hours. Super friendly and efficient.

He recommended I contact Mr. S's sister co./Ben Franklin, so a plumber could find & suggest running a gas line to my range, & he said they'd be able to see his notes. I paid $139 for this visit. His own notes are factually incorrect. The invoice even says "DIAGNOSTIC AFTER HOURS" and Mr. Sparky's technician failed to correctly diagnose the issue, so I didn't get what they charged me for. On 10/9, the Ben Franklin plumber came for 5 minutes, said there wasn't a simpler or cheaper option thru a gas line & left with another $139. On 10/10, Bryant HVAC& Electric came by: the Bryant technician fixed the issue in 45 minutes, for $225 TOTAL. The real problem was that I needed a new junction box installed where the existing Wadsworth panel was. My electric range immediately started working. I am horrified by how Mr. Sparky tried to scam me, & got me to pay another $139 after-hours fee to profit a sister co. If this isn't a scam preying on single, female, minority homeowners, then it is EXTREME incompetence. I have shared my experiences and the e-invoices with my male colleagues & friends, they're all shocked but their unanimous opinion is "I think Mr. Sparky tried to take advantage of you because you're a woman." I have instant messaged, completed a survey, and called requesting refunds for BOTH fees of $139. I have the invoices from Sparky, B.F. and Bryant documenting how dishonest Sparky was/corroborating the vastly different work scopes & costs. NO RESPONSE FROM MR. SPARKY CINCINNATI, probably bc this is how they "train" their people: To price-gauge, mislead and lie. It absolutely chills me to the bone that I was going to have so much damage to my garage and basement and be out almost $4k for THE WRONG DIAGNOSIS. I feel like I need to share these invoices and warn others of how BAD my experience was. Absolutely awful, AVOID MR. SPARKY CINCINNATI AT ALL COST. Mr. Sparky shouldn't get to avoid accountability or neglect its duty to its customers by hiding behind anonymity.

I was charge $1400 to have my sump pump replaced (a 20 min job). When the technician was at my…read morehouse he mentioned the total charge as I had not received a quote from the company. I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Best, Garrett Sowers Customer Relations Specialist Five Star Home Services (614) 245-3954 garrett.sowers@fivestargroup.com ---- My response to his: You charge $400 for a one-year workmanship warranty??? That is literally the cost of a brand new pump!! I'm not sure how that doesn't sound ridiculous to you! I also pay the $40 monthly "membership" but there doesn't seem to be much benefit in that either. It just seems unusual that a company refuses to provide an itemized invoice for work performed. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.

Upon arrival the technician told me that we have some major issues and they need to be fixed as soon as possible due to safety issues. The technician then quoted me $3400 to replace the already brand new meter panel on the outside of the house in addition to placing in some ground rods and said some additional work might need to be done as well. Upon him leaving I borrowed a multimeter from my neighbor and tested the two hot wires and neutral coming into the house and they were way out acceptable voltage range which told me that this guy was full of crap as we were getting bad power coming into the house From the duke power line outside our house. Fast forward 2 days later Duke came out and re-crimped the neutral wire on the high line outside our house and our electric is now working perfectly fine with no dent made to my bank account. The duke lineman also said that this is something that any electrician worth his/her salt would be able to spot and let their customer know prior to suggesting them to spend a chunk of change to get something fixed that wasn't even going to solve the issue. I do not doubt that this guy knows what he's doing, but with that said he also knows what he's doing and will prey on those he thinks he can sucker into spending a boat load of money. I will be reporting him to my home warranty company and the BBB as having shady business practices.
