This was my first experience with Craftsman, and my impression going in was that they have a reputation for being expensive. While they were not the low bidder on my job, the level of professionalism, quality, and peace of mind that comes from a job well done is entirely worth it. Their system for quoting, approving the job, and scheduling the work is very impressive. The gentlemen (and that's exactly what they were) who came to do the work were completely professional, friendly, and efficient. Given the size of the job, there were remarkably few areas requiring clarification, and these were communicated efficiently and effectively. I couldn't be more impressed.

I was given an option for an appointment 3 days or 2-3 weeks out. After reading a number of positive recommendations on Nextdoor, I called Craftsman. They were able to give me an emergency appointment later that afternoon. The tech called an hour before arriving and was able to troubleshoot and repair the issue in the 2 hour minimum required for emergency calls. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable total due. Their customer first emergency call system should be an industry standard. I'll definitely call them again.

Upon arrival the technician told me that we have some major issues and they need to be fixed as soon as possible due to safety issues. The technician then quoted me $3400 to replace the already brand new meter panel on the outside of the house in addition to placing in some ground rods and said some additional work might need to be done as well. Upon him leaving I borrowed a multimeter from my neighbor and tested the two hot wires and neutral coming into the house and they were way out acceptable voltage range which told me that this guy was full of crap as we were getting bad power coming into the house From the duke power line outside our house. Fast forward 2 days later Duke came out and re-crimped the neutral wire on the high line outside our house and our electric is now working perfectly fine with no dent made to my bank account. The duke lineman also said that this is something that any electrician worth his/her salt would be able to spot and let their customer know prior to suggesting them to spend a chunk of change to get something fixed that wasn't even going to solve the issue. I do not doubt that this guy knows what he's doing, but with that said he also knows what he's doing and will prey on those he thinks he can sucker into spending a boat load of money. I will be reporting him to my home warranty company and the BBB as having shady business practices.

Well that was during the half ass walk you did. You clearly were to send me a more thorough estimate... heck I have the text asking you if I would receive a revised estimate. Don't pretend to say you have an estimate.. 1 star is really high in my opinion

I was charge $1400 to have my sump pump replaced (a 20 min job). When the technician was at my…read morehouse he mentioned the total charge as I had not received a quote from the company. I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Best, Garrett Sowers Customer Relations Specialist Five Star Home Services (614) 245-3954 garrett.sowers@fivestargroup.com ---- My response to his: You charge $400 for a one-year workmanship warranty??? That is literally the cost of a brand new pump!! I'm not sure how that doesn't sound ridiculous to you! I also pay the $40 monthly "membership" but there doesn't seem to be much benefit in that either. It just seems unusual that a company refuses to provide an itemized invoice for work performed. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.
