Gravy missing on the smothered and covered hashbrowns.
    Peter M.

Seems they are now messing up orders. Ordered everything hashbrowns or hashbrowns smother and covered with my steak and eggs but sadly they forgot the gravy. Thankfully the steak was cooked perfectly.

I stumbled across this place when I had gone to the corner's Coffee Craving a few months ago…read more When I had gone back to Kingston this passed weekend, and was passing through the Greater Napanee Area, I knew Ellena's was a spot I needed to return to! Super friendly service, great collection of kitchen and home decor items, wine, very come-in-and-we'll-treat-you-well kinda vibe. The first time I picked up some Swedish sponges, at just under $7.00 ea for most of them (depending on sizing), that's approximately $3.00 in savings from the grocery store in Toronto. Points for Ellena's. Not a top, top fan of these sponges though. This first visit also allowed me to purchase a berry pie (not Saskatoon, similar to blueberry however I can't recall the name). This pie was delicious. I knew I had to return to pick up the Chicken Pesto sandwich that was calling my name, yet I needed to leave behind due to my bank card not working. So return I did, and that chicken pesto, was so scrumptious. Would likely have been more enjoyable had I eaten it when it was warm, yet I wasn't all that hungry when I arrived and ended up eating it about 2 hours later. The person who brought it out to me was lovely, he hand delivered it and said, "enjoy". I was waiting in the store. It was such a nice thing for him to do. Above and beyond! I picked up 3 more pies: pecan, blueberry and raspberry. I am obsessed with raspberries, seriously so tasty. This pie is up my alley, the filling is rather generous and the crust is an ideal pairing. It was light in colour, which gave me the pondering of how cooked it was, yet there weren't any raw dough bits. In fact, it was pretty good. The pecan pie is, well, gone. It was also really very good. I tried to make pecan pie once, it didn't have the same flavour most pecan pie has when its made by others. There is a reason Ellena's pecan pie did not last long with me. The blueberry pie, has yet to be tried. This crust also looks on the lighter side. The pastry I picked up was the Pain Au Chocolat. They looked too good sitting next to the cash out. I was definitely buying with my eyes that day and that croissant was flakey, buttery, that strip of chocolate down the centre, rich, delicious, memorable. Very, easy to devour. If I were a glutton, baked goods and treats is definitely the way I would go. I was tempted to get more, the excitment of trying a new place out when I'm in the area infrequently, was present, yet I held back. Needed to spread the money & love to other local shops. :) 100% a spot to hit up when you are in the lil' township.

I had a sandwich, it was great. I brought home one of their frozen turkey pies. No instructions…read more I called, I was hung up on, I called back, 3 times and sent to voice mail. Not very professional IMO.

So we checked out of a hotel down the road, and instead of enjoying their free breakfast of cereal…read moreand maybe a waffle, my wife suggested Wade's. She had been here before, so I'm thinking sure why not. We walked in and sat right up at the counter and the gentleman that was working the grill was super friendly. He's basically cooking for the whole restaurant with another guy next to him and yet still found the time to welcome us in and take our order. I got the southwestern omelette that is made with homemade chorizo hash and he asked if I would like some jalapeno chopped up in there to which I said sure why not. Comes with a side of toast and potatoes... My wife gets eggs benedict, and they have a menu item called the Benny extreme which is the same basically but it comes with tomato and spinach, so she opted for this. She also ordered a cinnamon swirl pancake. I'm thinking hey that sounds pretty good, so I asked if I could also have a cinnamon swirl pancake. The gentleman taking our order just kind of looked at me and said are you sure? So now I'm thinking to myself yes yes of course I'm sure I've had pancakes before, some places I go to I get a whole stack of them, I'm thinking I can handle one and I'll use it as like a dessert item. He says okay, smiles, and they prepare our food. Everything tasted wonderful. The hash was excellent, at least I think it was I mean I've never had it before but no complaints. The only surprise I had was the pancake. It was on its own dinner plate. This thing was freaking huge. We could have easily shared one and maybe had leftovers as we also both ordered breakfast in addition to these two monster pancakes. Now please understand I was in no way upset. While it is true my wife could have warned me about the size, and he could have said something as well, it was okay. I still finished everything and most of my pancake. Over all the service was great, like I said this guy was cooking for the whole restaurant and he's still found the time to check on us and made sure our coffee was full. I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area however it might be a little while because I live a couple hours away. The only thing I wish I had done that I forgot, when you order toast with your breakfast, the bread is homemade and they sell it by the loaf. White, wheat, rye, they have all of it. I meant to buy a loaf and I forgot. I look at it now though it's just an excuse to go back, and of course to grab another one of those pancakes... The only other thing that I could mention is that the place is a little smaller than I had expected. Everything was nice and clean so that's a bonus however for the business they're doing, and the number of people waiting to get a table, they could use a larger dining room.

Food is consistent, delicious and predictable. Service is efficient and friendly, but not syrupy…read more A loaf of raisin bread to take home is a necessity!

Tried it twice. Wish I could leave a better review…read more Old location and the new one. First visit was escargot (so greasy it was inedible). And a burger, which was average but not stand out in any way. Overpriced for what we got, and service was extremely slow. (It was about 30% full at this time) Old location was divey, but not in a cool quirky way. The 'guest book' had a VERY lewd comment in it (quite long winded and extremely vulgar) the book was left open to that page, Which was in view of my 6 yr old. The comment also mentioned 'Santa' so of course caught the attention of small eyes. The owner was there and when I mentioned it,he laughed and thought it was hilarious. How classy. Second visit was to the new location. Went with a group that had pre arranged. Had the breakfast 'marche'. Which was the only option and had very limited choices if you aren't into bacon and eggs. I did Have a fresh omelette with spinach and feta which was quite good, but there were very few other choices that were health conscious. Service consisted of gesturing toward the other room to find the food, and bringing one round of drinks and then the bill. Entire diner smelled badly of grease and I had to go home and change and launder my clothes afterward to get the smell out. Can't say I'll be giving this place a third try.
