I can't pretend to know authentic thai food, but as for Americanized thai food, dena does it well. Moved to the area in January and have had take out three times and dined in once. Prices are what you'd expect, $10-12 per entree. Pad kee Mao is spicy and delicious. Also have had the tom yum soup which is sour and spicy. Big fan of the Rama Chicken and Crab Rangoon but I haven't tried a noodle dish, fried rice, curry, or entree that I didn't like! The staff are all very friendly. Came across this place a few days ago when I was craving for some Thai food. I ordered the pad see eww with tofu and shrimp fried rice. The pad see eww was good, although it could have used a tiny bit more seasoning; the noodles were cooked perfectly though. The shrimp fried rice was good too. The shrimps were not stringy like most places serve em, but they were yummy! The dish came with sliced cucumbers and sliced tomatoes - very refreshing! I will have to come back to try the tom yum soup because that's one of my favorite Thai dishes. The reason I gave this place 3 stars is because the food was good, but it was lacking just a bit more flavor. I would definitely come back though, because you can tell the owners are very hard workers, and it's good to support local businesses! I moved into the area about a year ago and live within minutes of this place. It was very hard for my wife and I to find a reliable take-out place. Don't get me wrong, I love burritos and tacos as much as the next guy (the dominate take out type in the area), but sometimes you want something different. Thankfully Dena took over for a pretty poor Chinese restaurant (Lin's Garden?). The food is always fresh and is exactly what I'm craving. I've ordered (and sat in) about 6 times now and never had a meal where i was disappointed. To me, Thai food doesn't have to be anything special - just has to be consistent. Every neighborhood has about a half dozen Thai restaurants of varying quality; lucky for us, ours is a very good one. The service is excellent, there's a lot of options, and the food is good: a creative menu, freshly made, with the usual Thai go-tos and a few interesting diversions to keep you interested. Their delivery options are good, too, and they have one up on the (also great) Habañero Grill in that they take cash. They're also really friendly and willing to talk about the menu with you. OMG! So deelish. It didn't blow my pants off, but man was it tasty. The people that work there are crazy nice. My recommendation: ignore the fact that you might be the only people there and take your time and order a full course meal. Specifically, the crab Rangoon filling is deelish and fresh (like absolutely everything here), with a nice, substantial, satisfying crunch to it. Hell even the sweet sour dipping sauce is not bad at all. But the northern sausage appetizer...wow, totally worth the price. Be adventurous and take a small bite of the ginger and onion, or a teeny one of the uber spicy chiles after every sausage bite. What a nice fresh combination of flavors. Next get a panang curry to split with someone else, cause why not? Add some sticky rice on the side as well. And finish your meal with a Thai custard. Yum! Excellent, flavorful Thai with some go the friendliest staff in town. My order (via yelp) was delayed, so by the time I arrived to pick up my food, they had only just received my order. Even though it was no problem, they apologized profusely, brought me water while I waited, and threw in a free order of egg rolls--AND they got it ready (2 entrees am fan appetizer) in under 10 minutes! I stopped here for dinner while killing time in the area earlier this week. The atmosphere is cozy and quiet, and the service prompt and friendly. I had the massaman curry, which was pleasantly sweet and not too spicy, and a pot of tea. The portions are appropriate for an individual diner who wants to fill up but not have leftovers to carry out. Altogether, even before tip, my bill came to approximately $12.00, which was a steal. Unfortunately my regular local Thai joint closed it's doors recently. When I had a craving I needed to look a little further away. This place was worth the extra distance. Their Larb Gai, my favorite Thai dish, was delicious as were their steamed dumplings. The dumplings came six in an order which was a nice surprise, but then again I'm not sure what is standard. Would recommend if you want Thai in the Logan Square/Hermosa area. Will be my new go-to for sure. read more

i've ordered take out at Dena's many times and it is consistently good. My usual go to is the pad see ew tofu, they make that perfectly. The dish is always flavorful and portion sufficient. Best thai in Logan Square. Stand out dishes include the pad thai, the panang curry, and the yellow curry. You can't really go wrong with any of the noodle dishes. The service is not bad and they are very quick to prepare the food, especially for take out. And the prices are very reasonable. This is my new favorite Thai restaurant in the city. My bf and I came in last night after seeing lots of positive reviews on Yelp. We were hesitant to walk in at first because it was very quiet for a Saturday night, but boy were we glad we went in. My bf saw someone post an off menu dish Kapao Kai Kai Dao (spicy basil chicken) and lucky for us he did because it was delicious! Our waitress explained it was a traditional street food dish that every family makes but there are variations. I got the panang curry and it was perfect, not too sweet with a good balance of coconut and peanut flavors. The waitress was super sweet & welcoming and gave us great recommendations. As we ate, we noticed quite a few regulars coming in to order carryout and she knew each one and chatted like old friends. It was very nice to see. Great place to start establishing the 'where everyone knows your name' kind of connection. read more

Portions were an okay size and the price was fair. My pad kee mao (my go to at any Thai restaurant) was full of veggies, but had hardly any noodles or sauce. The noodles it did have, were old, soggy, and broken (aka not made fresh to order). The sauce it did have was bland and barely a derivative of the sweet and spicy sauce I know. Fried rice was spot on, basil chicken was very flavorful, and some noodle dish that was just so good! Give this place a try, you won't regret! I live around the corner from this new found gem. I am really picky about Thai food; I always trek from my home in Logan Square to Lincoln Square to Opart Thai. Dena Kitchen really cleaned up this location, which was formerly a badly lit, run down Vietnamese restaurant. There are new tables and chairs and a much needed new coat of paint. Generally I judge Thai food based on the curry. Here, I had the yellow curry and it was delicious with a nice kick. It was every bit as good as Opart. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because my mom ordered a chicken soap and, while delicious, had a shrimp floating on the top of it - not a problem for her, but for someone who doesn't eat shrimp it is. read more
