    Pasta with scampi

Our favorite place we ate in Bruges. Food and service were excellent. Dessert was delayed and server came out with more wine for the wait.

We were lucky to obtain a seat without reservation when we showed up. The waiter/so-owner was very hospitable, and we found ourselves in the last unreserved table for 1.5 hours. The Den Amand does not open very long (roughly 6pm to 9.30pm). We ordered loempas with salad, and one of their fish variations dish. Must say, both are simply good. The chef/co-owner's style is subtle and mellow in terms of flavour, so that all the ingredients mold together without imbalance or overemphasis. The chive sauce infused with white wine and the herbed napolitana sauce, are well, everything you'd want them to be. When one breaks apart the individual ingredients of the dishes, like the goat cheese, the beans, the dressing of balsamic and olive, etc., none of them are exotic. There seems to be no trick. One could well say: "how do you make simple vegetables taste this good?", although I'm certain much of this is because their fair-trade sources are good. The end result is simply worth investigating.

Outstanding food, very friendly service, in a relaxing, unpretentious atmosphere. Really enjoyed our dinner!

This is a very small place just off the main Markt square. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. I ordered the house specialty, spring rolls (I know seems odd for Belgium) and I was pleasantly surprised! We also had a lovely time visiting with the couples seated at the tables next to us during our meal.

Very good! Small locals only feel. Excellent service from the owner himself. I ordered from the specials- wild boar with gratin and root vegetables. Excellently prepared and cooked exactly as it should be. Cost was around 30 Euro for the meal. Would go back!

    Salmon salad--huge!!

Clam pasta had sand in it. We are used to not being charged when the food is bad but not here.

It checked all the boxes I was looking for - local Belgian cuisine, affordable, close by, and open late. Exactly what you want after a long day of drinking Belgian beers. I didn't realize ribs were such a big deal in Belgium, so I was genuinely excited when I ordered them... only to feel deep disappointment when the server returned to let me know they had just sold out. Luckily, I pivoted to the vol-au-vent and had absolutely no regrets. The chicken was moist and creamy, and the pastry was incredibly flaky and light. Naturally, I paired it with a Trappist ale, which felt mandatory. Cozy, satisfying, and quintessentially Belgian--this spot lived up to the recommendation and then some.

My son loved his beef stew and applesauce. My husband loved his salmon and I absolutely loved my salad! The tomatoes tasted like they were right out of a garden!! It was one of the best salads I've ever had! The restaurant could be good just for a casual dinner or it could also be a nice romantic place to spend time with loved ones! The waiters were very nice and helpful, making recommendations that proved to be amazing!

However do not let this deter you. They are highly efficient and have a system therefore the wait goes fast. Just be sure to be situationally aware. It's along a busy street where a lot of horse carriage rides transit, so don't hang out in the street. Also, be mindful to step aside once you place your order (probably to the left facing the order window, but do not block the walkway that allows the employees to deliver your order. They call out your number and it's hot and fresh. There was no room to sit on the steps/stoops so I stood and enjoyed my waffle. Personally, I feel like one Belgian waffle is sufficient to share between 2 people because it's rich and really sweet if you get the chocolate one. While I enjoyed it and the presentation was excellent, the waffle was very dense and really chewy. But I think that's how they are since it's made from yeast based dough. It's definitely worth the try, just too sweet and too chewy for my preference. Staff were very friendly and kind as well!!
