Stoverij (beef stew made with beer), bouillabaisse and, of course, frites!

My husband and I chose Christophe for our final meal in Bruges. We stopped in during the day to make a reservation, though that probably wasn't necessary for a Tuesday night as the restaurant wasn't too crowded when we arrived for dinner. The restaurant is really pretty and romantic; perfect for a date. One suggestion I have would be to update the background music; it was a collection of slow love songs from the 80s. Think Simply Red, Roxette, Chris de Burgh and the like. Painful on the ears but also kind of hilarious. We started with a shared plate of cheese croquettes, which the kitchen split between two plates - very nice! My husband and I agreed that no other croquette came close to Christophe's version. It was absolutely delicious! I wasn't going to leave Belgium without trying the beef stew, which I ordered for my main course. Naturally, like all things in Belgium, it came with a side of fries. I really liked my dish and would recommend it. My husband had the cioppino which he enjoyed as well. For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée, which was nice, though I wish I had gone with my original choice of ice cream with chocolate sauce. Overall, lovely meal and definitely one I'd recommend to friends or family planning a visit to Bruges.

The dark mysterious De Passage is…read morewhere you can get re-fueled and re-hydrated after a train journey or a day spent tourist-ing around. The eatery gets perhaps a majority business from the adjacent hostel at same address. Sixtus 12 beer was very tasty. Moules (mussels) seemed more about quantity than quality. Generous portion but slightly disappointing in that the white mussels just didn't have as good a flavour as the orange ones. Could be seasonal. Moreover, the veggies cooked with the moules were all a bit tough. Perhaps meant only to flavour broth and not be eaten, but if so, shouldn't they be removed in the kitchen? Dinner was decent. Service was alright. De Passage definitely has de atmosphere. Tables are a little bit cramped on either side of the room and could use bussing and cleaning a little more often.

Very good value; next time I am in Bruges; I'll head to Passages for food for certain. Lodging is very cheap but is small and I was 3rd floor walk up. The walk up round 4 is a bit rough. The room was clean and quiet so I didn't mind it Some would hate it. Was great to go right up stairs to sleep after my awesome meal.
