Food, Ambiance, Service were all above par and our waiter, Michael and all service personnel, was friendly, engaging, and personable. The Flemish stew was the best we've had in Belgium, period. We were visiting Bruges and staying at Hotel Aragon, and this restaurant came highly recommended on the hotel's list. It checked all the boxes I was looking for - local Belgian cuisine, affordable, close by, and open late. Exactly what you want after a long day of drinking Belgian beers. Luckily, I pivoted to the vol-au-vent and had absolutely no regrets. The chicken was moist and creamy, and the pastry was incredibly flaky and light. We had a lovely lunch here. We made reservations for 12:30pm lunch but we arrived when the restaurant opened at 12pm. The staff had no issues with our early arrival and we were warmly welcomed. I ordered the mussels with white wine and also included fries on the side. The mussels servings were a massive portion for one person and I was able to eat 80% of it. I think the tapas size for mussels would have been better for me. Meanwhile, my husband got the Flemish stew and it included a side salad. The stew was tasty as well. Service was great. Our son actually looked up and recommended this restaurant to us. He's 16. His recommendation was right on point! The food was so fresh and flavorful! My son loved his beef stew and applesauce. Great Belgium pub fare! I had a regular restaurant BXL I went to in NYC while working there years back for Steak fries and mussels! This one was just like it! Comfy bar setting local brews, great steak, mussels and fries! And since we were in Belgium great chocolate dessert- Profiteroles. We had a great experience here! Arrived around 9PM and were seated promptly. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy - felt old and authentic. I got the Flemish beefstew with Trappist beer and applesauce, and my husband got the BIGGEST serving of mussels I've ever seen, in a delicious cream sauce with lots of fennel. I typically don't like mussels but I kept going back for a few bites of his. My stew was very tasty (was a little bit over but the sauce was delicious), and the apple sauce came out warm, which was very tasty and seemed homemade (good chunks of apple in there). The serving sizes were very generous for the price of the food. The service was very timely, attentive and friendly. Would recommend this place to people if they're travelling to Bruges! read more

We had reservations for dinner here for our final night in Bruges at 7. This cozy spot has a pub-like atmosphere and super friendly service, it's like a warm Flemish hug. The menu features the Flemish classics made in the traditional ways. We started with shrimp croquettes (not my favorite-very fishy) but that was eclipsed by the tremendous Vol-au-Vent (Flemish chicken pot pie) with its savory peppery sauce, big chunks of tender white meat chicken, mushrooms, and tiny beef/pork meatballs . Easily my favorite Flemish dish although the beef stew is a close second and this place makes a great version as well. Of course it comes with fries and salad and unlike the other dining spots we've visited, they clearly put some thought and care into the construction of their salad with red onion, fresh cherry tomatoes a bit of corn and a nice dressing-delicious. Service was super friendly, unless you arrive without a reservation-in which case you will likely be told "sorry, we are fully booked"-which was the case even on a quiet Monday night in early December. So do yourself a favor, reserve online ahead of time (easy and instant) and bring your appetite because even though you are full, you'll want the profiteroles for dessert. It's a super cozy place in the heart if Brügge. They were (as usual) super super busy. Reserve a table to be sure you won't have to wait. In saying that, we didn't and waited only about 15 minutes. The cheese crouqett was delicious followed by our entrees; Flemish stew, Vol-au-vent (chicken with puff pastry) and Scampi Diabolique -- while all the dishes were very tasty, this was the star of the show! The sauce was like nothing I have ever tasted, silky, slightly spicy and full of flavor. Finished off with profiteroles, ice cream filled with a Lucious chocolate sauce. Three to a plate, (see photo) perfect finale to a fabulous dinner! Service was solid and attentive making for a relaxing and memorable evening. Thiis is one of the scenes in the movie En Bruges but it does not feel touristy. warm and welcoming is what comes top of mind when I reflect on our experience here. Just spent ten days in Belgium. Our time in Bruges was my favorite part of the trip. Beautiful buildings and scenery and very interesting history abound in Bruges. The food in the restaurants and cafes was generally very good. However, my favorite meal was at Diligence. I ordered the Flemish beef stew with their house made warm apple sauce. My wife had prawns. Both meals were excellent paired with some Trappist ales and, of course, frites. Our server was Staijn and he was friendly, helpful and fun to talk to. He hustled and ran the dining room upstairs. He was very proud of the restaurant and the history of the area. He made great suggestions and our night was perfect. This meal was my favorite of the trip. read more

My sister and I arrived in Bruges around 8:45pm and our hotel recommended we have dinner at Diligence as it stays open later than other restaurants. We are so glad we did because it was one of our favorite meals during our trip! The staff was so welcoming and offered us excellent menu recommendations. I had the Dover Sole and my sister had the filet -- we ate every single bite! We had the crème brûlées for dessert which was one of the best crème brûlées we have ever had! The wines offered by the glass were wonderful -- a much better selection than other restaurants I've been to. We're tourists, we want what we don't deserve. We didn't deserve this delicious meal, I know that for sure and didn't take it for granted. Restaurant Diligence was recommended to us by our Hotel Manager. He didn't steer us wrong. First, the beers! Belgian beers are the best! It was recommended that I try the Grimbergen Winter Ale.
