Complimentary spiced popcorn and mixed olives are served instead of the obligatory bread and butter.

Natalie was the perfect hostess for a lovely evening. This cosy restaurant was decorated with a quirkiness of old photos and animal skulls intermixed with disused brass instruments. Complimentary spiced popcorn and mixed olives are served instead of the obligatory bread and butter. The menu is uncomplicated with a few selections of beef and limited seafood. Mussels were unfortunately out of season (only available in warmer summer months) and we were told if you find them elsewhere, they're most likely frozen or from unsustainable sources. We opted for the fillet mignon from their famous Belgium cows served with a side salad and fries £25. The Flemish beef stew was also a good choice. It was rich and hearty, cooked for 3 hours in the morning ensuring it melts in the mouth. Served with fries and and an option of side salad or apple compote. Definitely go for the compote. It's sweetness offsets the stouty richness just right to compliment the beef nicely. Dinner was finished off with a light apple pie warmed enough to slightly melt the ice cream and whipped cream served on the side. Tables are limited so definitely book for a nice treat to traditional Flemish food.

    Cheese croquettes. Must try.

I was nervous about eating gluten-free in Bruges (I have celiac), but Pro Deo was a wonderful option.

With so many options, we were excited to explore what they had to offer. Today, we ordered the onion soup, shrimp and cheese croquettes with salad, rabbit with potato croquettes, and the beef stew with fries. Both entrees also came with apple sauce, which was an interesting and surprisingly good pairing. The ambiance is warm, cozy, and inviting, and the service was great. The portions were generous, and most of the dishes we tried were delicious. The beef stew was the highlight of the meal. The meat was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. Eating it with the apple sauce created a nice balance and kept the dish from feeling too heavy. The rabbit was also very tender, it looked similar to a chicken thigh and drumstick, although you can definitely tell the bone structure is different. The apple sauce paired nicely with the rabbit and added a great contrast to the flavor. The shrimp croquettes were tasty, but the cheese flavor was not my favorite. The onion soup was also very different from the traditional versions we're used to. It had a strong, unusual flavor that felt a little harsh and even gave a slight burning sensation in the throat, so it wasn't my favorite dish.

We'd planned to have dinner here but did not make a booking and really lucked out with the last table open when we came in. Please, ensure you make a booking if you want to dine here. I had no idea how consistently full they'd be and felt grateful the entire time to have snagged a spot. When I tell you my fish stew has to be one of the top 5 things I've ever eaten in life, I am not kidding. It was so spectacular. I had no idea what to order and asked for a recommendation and this was it. This soup blew my mind, spoonful after spoonful it was the yummiest, most delish, comfort meal I've had in a long time. We had a very and tasty experience. Highly recommend.

Amazing bar down in a wine cellar with the best beers…read more From the street you would never know how awesome this bar is - nestled under a building you are down in a cellar that has an awesome vibe. The beers here are amazing with over 20+ on tap there is something for everyone - and some must try Trappist beers. I absolutely loved this spot. Only reason for not having 5 stars? The service. Although the place was relatively crowded, it was not very crazy at all especially when we first came in after opening and the staff behind the bar were kind of rude. I asked for a flight and they seemed annoyed they had to make one instead of just pouring 1 beer, and i was reading the menu and didn't have all my numbers ready to fire off - more upset. Additionally, my wife and I sat down at the bar about 1 hour after the place opened and we both had glass all over our chairs and now in our bottoms. The bartender was annoyed when my wife asked him to clean it - he said some glass thing exploded there before opening... so you didn't clean it? And then were annoyed customers had glass in their pants? make that make sense.

I also tried to order nachos and the bartender pointed me to small bags of chips from a display on the bar (I think they were Doritos--not what I expected). I decided to skip the snack. The second beer, Rochefort 6, was excellent, so the visit ended in a high note.
