I made a reservation for lunch when they opened. It's a good thing too, because the place was packed when we left. We walked up the narrow staircase and sat upstairs next to a window, which was nice. We started with the fish soup, which was comforting and perfect for the drizzly weather. As my main, I had to get moules-frites, mussels with a side of fries. It's the national dish of Belgium. The portion was big. I overheard the waiter saying each pot contains about 1.5kg of mussels. Every so often, a waiter will come by to collect the shells. In the end, I was not able to finish. My bf got the chicken (poules) stew, which was creamy. I think we could've ordered just one main, the mussels, and it would've been enough.
We were looking for the best mussels in Bruges, and these did not disappoint. The wait staff checked in on our table with little to no prompting, and the ambiance was polite without being too casual or too proper. We had the bier mussels and the basil/tomato mussels. Both were delicious and so so many, we struggled to finish them (but did of course)!!

The mussels were super fresh and the broth and sauces were all delicious. The fries were thickly cut and perfect to dip in mayo and ketchup. The only reason I'm docking one star is because we had already sat down and were in the middle of ordering when an employee asked that we move to a different seat so that they can accomodate a large party (who also had no reservation). We ended up moving to a less than ideal table that was right by the stairs. The employee said they would cover a drink for the inconvenience so we ordered beers, but they ended up only covering our water, which I wasn't even aware would cost money.
This was an amazing restaurant in Bruges. It was outside and very busy . We all ordered mussels and it was a GIANT pot . I chose garlic cream . I was so very full . I paired it with a local beer and life was good . They do close around 3 for a break so we made it in the Knick of time . The service was fast and friendly. The menu was available in English .
If traditional Belgium mussels is on your checklist, this is definitely the spot. They have several different options for mussels including natural, white wine, tomato garlic cream sauce. I got the natural to try the unadulterated flavor of the mussels. The serving size is 3-4 times as many as you would get in the US, about 30-40 mussels in a pot. They were piping hot and delicious. I also got a tomato garlic sauce on the side for dipping which was just slightly spicy and so fresh. There are also some meat and poultry options with classic Belgian fries. Bread, vendette crackers, and olives were included as a starter for no additional charge. The interior was so cozy; three stories in an old stone building with a spiral staircase. Food is sent up with an actual dumb waiter. I can't say enough positive things about the staff. They gave great recommendations for the mussels, wine pairings, and brought extra bread and crackers without even being asked. We felt so welcome. Best meal I had in Belgium.

It was still quite early for dinner, so not many others dining. I ordered the Mussels in White Wine (€25.50) and a glass of Still Water (€3). The extra cost for the water was a bit of a turnoff, which I wish I knew beforehand --so heads up! Before your meal arrives, they provide you some bread, butter, and mini cheese crackers. The mussels come in a huge pot, which had over 50 pieces of mussels along with a side of crispy frites. As much as I wanted to enjoy the white wine broth, the alcohol taste was too overpowering. I am not sure if I should've chose a different flavor, but the wine had such a bitter alcoholic taste to it that I did not enjoy too much. Overall, this meal was quite pricey as well. If you're looking for a nice, romantic meal then come try this place out. As for myself as a solo traveler, I could've skipped this place for such a pricey meal alone even though both tables next to me were also dining here alone. I have definitely had better mussels for a better value elsewhere though.

I don't typically eat mounds of mussels on my own so I didn't really know how or what to order. The white wine was good, but I was thinking I probably should've gotten some other flavoring. Besides that, the mussels were delicious and seemingly neverending! I counted about 90+ and by the time I got down to the ones that were stewing in the wine, I started to get that nice tingly feeling =P I ate every single one of those mussels and really enjoyed myself - they were so fresh. The frites tasted like regular fries to me, but were good with the mayo and ketchup. We actually came here because the place my husband originally chose was closed, but I am so glad we did. Service was great and so nice and I would definitely come back when I am in Brugge again!
Very popular place, and it is with it. Is it drive out of your way good, no. But if you are in Bruges, it is worth the stop. Mussels were good, albeit not the best we've had, and same with the frites. But it is still worth a stop in as the service was good and the location is nice/ right outside a Christmas market. read more

While I was in Bruges, I wanted to try the mussels since I knew that was another one of the country's classic dishes. I saw that Poules Moules wasn't too far from me, so I decided to try it out and do walk-in. Thankfully I was able to seated quickly upstairs, which had a nice view of the street. I got the moules-frites, which is a large pot of mussels with a side of fries. I have to say, this was probably one of my favorite meals that I had while I was in Belgium. The flavor of the mussels was great, and the crispiness of the fries paired well with it. The portion sizes are pretty large so it's a good one to share, but I was happy with what I had. Overall, I think this restaurant is one to definitely check out if you're in Bruges! read more
The restaurant itself is beautiful with historic elements still visible inside. The service was also fine. However, the mussels, while tender and looked great, lacked any flavor and the fries were also very bland. I barely ate and left pretty much the entire pot. It's overpriced and not worth the hype unfortunately. read more

We only stopped in for a wine before heading out. We got olives and crackers with it Menu looked great but we didn't have time. I had a dry Chardonnay. So good! read more

Amazing lunch in Bruges! Make sure you book a reservation! We had a fabulous lunch after a wonderful tour of Bruges. We sat on the third floor overlooking the square. The prefix menu is the way to go. Our meal was perfect! Service was a bit slow, but that's Europe. read more

The best meal I've had in Belgium! Delicious mussels and fries! Restaurant is in a small square near a ton of shopping in the center of Brugge. We did not have a problem getting seated on a weekday. So many kinds of mussels. We went for the bacon and thyme one and also ordered shrimp with curry. Mussels: Around 26-27€ and such a big portion of mussels and was not lacking in flavor. The fries that came with it were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We also are all the chunks of bacon that was included. Shrimp: The thick curry sauce was also delicious and not spicy at all. We ended up dipping the fries in that and the mayo. We were so full and content after this meal and would not hesitate to come back again if we're in the area! read more

When I google "what to eat in Belgium," it tells me that one of the dishes that I HAVE to try is a bucket of mussels. I'm not a huge mussel person but I simply cannot pass up on fresh seafood. One of the websites that we visited specifically stated that Poules Moules is the place to go if you want mussels. I guess because Brugge is loser to the waters .. the seafood is better there? My husband and I decided to go to Brugge on a day trip when we stayed in Brussels. We took the train and got to Brugge around noon, which is a good time. It doesn't seem like any of the shops are opened prior to 1100 am. The first place we went to? Poules Moules for lunch! We were seated right away on the second floor when we went in. I was afraid that we would require reservations but it seems that lunch isn't as packed as dinner. There were some customers that made reservations though. So if you do decide to dine here for dinner, I would recommend you make one -- you can make one through their online website :) We ordered the mussels with fresh tomatoes and basil and added tomato sauce and garlic to it. We decided to share the order since it came with fries and thank goodness we did. The order was huge! You can probably split an order among three people! But I suppose that's because I'm not a huge eater. All of the mussels were so plump and juicy. None of them were sad looking or tiny looking!! Except it got a little mundane after a while. The amount was overkill. I think the best idea is to probably come with a party of four, share the mussels and some other dishes. That would be perfect. The fries were simply delicious as well. Belgium fries are DEFINITELY on a different category than American fries. It's so hard to describe but it's just so much BETTER in Belgium. They use different potatoes here. That's why. Honestly, there are so many restaurants that offer the same dish. I'm not entirely sure what is better and what is different about Poules Moules. But everything about our experience at this establishment was good. The service, the food, and the ambiance. read more

Service was excellent- super friendly. Mussels were small and I didn't find the beer broth particularly flavorful. Chocolate mousse was amazing tho and there is a cute outdoor area. read more
This place was recommended by our tour guide. So glad she put us onto this location. The place is lively and energized. The service was very good. The mussels are hefty pots brimming with the black shelled jewels. The traditional Flemish stew is hearty and the perfect soup warmer on a cold day. The beer list is also impressive. So glad we spent our afternoon here! Only odd thing, or could be difficult some, the bathroom is three flights up a windy staircase. Keep that in mind ;) read more

I HATE MAYONNAISE! The mussels were cooked perfectly & the wine was great, dessert was incredible, but...the surprise for me was the homemade mayonnaise. I could not stop dipping my fries in mayonnaise! (and I have never said that) Eva was a great waitress and the seats out front have a beautiful view of the courtyard. Definitely a good romantic spot for dinner. read more
When in Belgium, there are a few epicurean musts: beer, chocolate, waffles, frites and mussels! You can score four out of the five at Poules Moules. Two of us split the moules with beer with two dipping sides, cream and rocquefort cheese. The big pot of mussels came with crispy frites, but of course! The frites were good...up to par with all the other frites we had in Belgium and went really well with the creamy rocquefort cheese. The mussels were ok. I've had better elsewhere. They also offer several prix fixe menus, which the one stray from our party ordered. Great deal since it included a soup, salad, entree and dessert. The soup of the day was cream of asparagus. We decided to sample his and one spoonful and we immediately ordered our own! I am not a fan of asparagus, by far, but this soup was to die for! I wanted to lick the bottom of my bowl, but I refrained since I didn't want to embarrass my company. I also mooched some of the chocolate mousse, which was a really generous serving, and it was so decadent! It lives up to all the other phenomenal chocolate in Belgium. Service was great. Restaurant is really cute and cozy, overlooking the main square. Make reservations because they book up quickly on the weekend. read more

This is one of those time that Yelp 4 star review failed me. Poules Moules was not our first choice for lunch during our One Day in Brugge but a lot of the places we wanted to visit were closed. My Yelp App has Poules Moules as a 4 Star with 30+ reviews which sound pretty promising. The set up and deco of the restaurant is cozy and nice. Service was excellent. The food though was quite disappointing. Price wise I expected to be quite pricey as Poules Moules is located in a touristy area. We ordered Mussels cooked in Beer (23.75 EUR) and Flemish Beef Stew Prix Fix Menu (21.75 EUR) to share. I have high expectation for mussels as I am in Belgium and this suppose to be a place that specialized in "Moules" ? Mussels were overcooked and without much flavour. Small and rubbery and reminded me of the frozen varieties I had. Portion though was generous but just too much of the bad thing... Flemish Beef Stew was a little overcooked and dry. The tomato soup was so sour. Chocolate mousse dessert was the best part of the meal... Personally I think there is a lot of other places in Brugge if you want decent food. The best moules and frites I had while visiting Belgium. The restaurant is located off of one of Bruges many lovely squares. There is a nice sized patio area though the interior is quite comfortable as well. Everything about my experience here was excellent: the atmosphere, the service and the food. They offer several types of moules, my preference is white wine. The steaming pot of mussels was enormous, too many for one person. A portion will easily feed two people. The steamed mussels were large and plump, all of the shells were open without broken shells. There was a bit of broth at the bottom along with the veggies that they steam with the mussels (onions, celery and carrots). Along with the mussels I had frites with mayonnaise (something that I would not do in the US but the mayonnaise just tastes different, better, here). Poules Moules is a bit pricy but the size and quality of the meal is worth it. read more

It's right in the heart of Bruges! As the name implies, their mussels were great. Can't leave Belgium without getting mussels so I tried their classic in wine and added garlic cream to it. Delicious! The portion is huge so you can easily share it with another person. It's a little pricier compared to other places but it's very good. My husband got their curry pasta which was great as well. Both servings were big enough to share in my opinion. I guess depending on how hungry you are! It might look small when you first walk in but there are extra seatings upstairs! read more
