After 7 months, our pool is not finished and is of sub par quality. Only 1 jet of 8 in spa works, stone around spa broken, no equipment to clean, and plaster is a WRECK. See pic (this is supposed to be Stonescapes Midnight Blue but is extremely splotch throughout pool. Jim Demeo walked off job and said he is going to put a lien on house although only a small amount is owed for FINISHED work. He refused to show me what the plaster warranty is unless I paid, even though he is not finished. Just walked off the job. read more

Jim seems to be the only one on his crew that can do things halfway right. The contractors DeMeo uses are horrible, from leaving trash everywhere to pieces of metal in the street and allowing mud to flow down the street and not even attempting to clean in up. His crew even tried to drain the neighbor's pool into our backyard and when we stopped them, they moved the hose and tried to dump it into the next neighbor over's yard. It took Jim coming out to finally get the hose in the street. DeMeo may be low cost but it's because they use the cheapest labor possible and our neighbor is already complaining of broken pumps and leaks. read more

Upon meeting with Jim at the job site, where our new home is currently under construction, we shared our wants, budget ($60k) and made it known that we intended to contact at least 3 other companies.. At the conclusion of the meeting, he asked us to email him some information relative to HVAC location(s) per the house plans, etc. which we did the next day. Long story short, we never heard from Jim again, even after sending 3 or 4 follow-up emails and 4 or 5 voice mails over the course of 2 months with one exception, about 6 weeks in he did answer his phone; he apologized for not follow up and promised his proposal by the end of the week, that was 4 weeks ago. Conclusion: Jim is a proverbial "cherry picker". We believe that Jim didn't want to give us a proposal and bid because he wouldn't be able to make the standard 50% - 80% profit margin which is the norm in the pool industry. A professional and honest businessman simply would have said, "I'm sorry but I'm not going bid on your pool". As noted above, Jim didn't do this. He ignored our efforts to follow up with him for 2 months. If he can't follow through with giving a bid and since he's demonstrably not an honest businessman, how can he be expected to service your pool's warranty? Is he going to be in business 10 years from now to service it, 5 years or even 2 years from now? What will happen to his business if the local building boom falls off the cliff? The smaller builders like Jim will no doubt fall to the wayside. Since originally contacting Jim, we've since become wiser and more appreciative of the importance in dealing with large and reputable companies. After receiving bids from other companies, we now recognize that these larger companies are not only extremely responsive, but they're more professional, use better pool equipment, have better software for designing and presenting proposals, are better positioned to price jobs cheaper because they can afford to take smaller profit margins due to their costs relative to volume purchasing and most importantly, they've been around for dozens of years; several are national companies and are likely going to be around for decades to come, thus able to service warranties, e.g. lifetime warranties on the pool (not pool equipment), warranty for cracks, etc. In these areas, Jim can not compete. I strongly encourage you to get bids from Cody Pools, Anthony & Sylvan and Blue Haven Pools. These guys are all big, have been around a long time and are not going to go out of business. Based on my research, these three are the best in the business, whereas Jim is clearly not. Why settle for less? read more

Be careful doing any sort of work with Demeo Custom Pools. He came out to our house in Austin to give us some estimates on potential landscaping work. We agreed to barter out some work to benefit each other. We did $2000+ worth of work on his '06 F250. He never came back out to our house, did not return phone calls and even declined certified USPS mail when we sent him a statement for the work performed. This isn't how you do business. read more

How many times have you heard horror stories from friends/family/acquaintances when they built their pool...it took six months, they didn't finish "x", they always no call no showed and always late....most of the time, right? Rarely if ever do you hear of a pool build being flawless, finishing early, always being in the "know" with constant status updates, a pool builder that always answers his phone, replies to text messages within minutes, drops virtually everything to take care of an item no matter how big or small and never pushing those extra water falls, the multi-colored lights and junk you didn't ask for. Well, I'm writing this as I look at my new pool built by Jim DeMeo (just finished) checking all of those positive experience boxes. My pool would have been finished inside of 4 weeks had Mother Nature not decided to dump two weeks worth of rain and cold weather on us. It was still ready to use inside of 5-6 weeks. Jim is probably one of the most up front, honest people I've ever worked with in the construction industry (and we've done 4 remodel projects in the last 5 years). True, he's not a big company that can give you a cut rate price due to sheer volume, but he personally will be on the job every day when anything is being done. His subs respect him by the apparent high quality work they do and attention to detail. Sure you could pay slightly less, but ITs NOT WORTH IT. Trust me....if you're going to build a pool, hire Jim and don't look back or second guess your decision (because you wont have to). It's to the point where I plan to stay in touch with the guy because I consider him a friend of the family now....he's Mr. Jim to the kids. Don't fall for the sales pitch from the larger company - "we're a national company, we're backed by a large entity". Go with the guy who is there from start to finish, everyday....not just a salesman who can hide behind a large company when something doesn't go as planned. He's a very nice guy and seemed like the perfect builder for us -- small shop, thorough, single point of contact throughout the build, etc. But literally weeks go by without a response. Then we'll get a curt ("I'll get that to you Monday") followed by more radio silence. If you want to waste a lot of time, only to have Jim completely flake out on you, go right ahead. But don't be surprised if he suddenly disappears. Extremely frustrating experience. For someone who prides himself on customer service, there's zero professionalism here. read more

We chose DeMeo Custom Pools & Spas to transform our backyard and build our pool, spa, and gas fire-pit in 2015. We initially interviewed four total pool builders - two of the large national/regional pool builders, and two of the smaller local builders (including DeMeo Pools) that each had great reviews. As a big decision and substantial investment, we were very thorough in our decision-making process. We couldn't have been happier with our decision to partner with Jim DeMeo to build our dream backyard. Although the large regional and national builders had fancy software, it became apparent that you pay for it in the form of a large mark up in dealing with middlemen "sales representatives" vs. dealing direct with the owner of the company. After our meetings, it was clear that Jim DeMeo had twice the experience (30+ years) over the nearest pool builder, which brought great piece of mind to us and the pool design that Jim completed for us was the biggest and smartest, offering the largest combination of swim space, seating, width, length, etc. Instead of a standard seven foot diameter spa, Jim built us an eight foot diameter with additional jets for the same price. With many other happy customers, Jim had no problem driving us around to see nearby pools that he had recently completed that had similar colors and features we were leaning towards. From beginning to end our total pool project took a total of eight weeks, which included a week delay for unforeseen rain. Jim had all of the sub-contractors scheduled perfectly in synch and communicated with us throughout the entire building process. Jim was also on sight at our house and very hands-on throughout the entire building process, and in fact, he told us he only builds a maximum of three pools at any given time so he can make sure that each pool is completed correctly and on time. Quickly in our build, we learned that the core sub contractors Jim uses are actually the exact same that the other national pool builder we were considering uses. When our pool was complete, we were extremely impressed with the attention to detail and quality. All of our friends and family that come over to swim absolutely love our pool and continue to give us great compliments. Affordable Luxury Pool-My husband and I did our research for our dream pool. We waited years in order to save enough money to pay cash. We consulted a handful of predominate pool builders, Cody, and Anthony Sylvan, and a few private luxury pool builders. Most of who were not willing to LISTEN to our ideas, and concerns. Then Jim Demeo answered our prayers. He came with 42 years in pool construction, and a prior 28 years in rebar construction in California that dealt with earthquakes, and making sure the construction was rock solid, literally! Very impressive resume. He was present daily throughout the whole process, and even after completion, continued to validate that the pool was functioning properly. He offers substantial discounts to military, and first responders. He was the only pool builder that we consulted with that provided a price list of every item that you might want or need. For some reason many other pool builders were hush, hush when asked, which I felt was a tactic to mislead us. When asked how long it would take to build our luxury custom pool, he answered 6-8 weeks, which was the exact time frame. My husband and I interviewed and received quotes from six (6) different pool companies before making a final decision on our builder. Jim DeMeo was hands down, our number one choice. He came out to the site several times to work with us and truly understood our entire back yard project before he designed our pool. He made several changes to the design without any gripe, fuss or charge. He wanted to ensure that the design was exactly what we wanted. When he submitted his proposal it was on point and he provided us the opportunity to switch out different design elements to fit within our budget. He even offered low cost alternatives, like a propane fire pit vs. building in gas fire pits around the pool. Once we received everything we needed, we submitted the proposal for financing. After receiving the rates for financing, my husband and I decided to wait a year before we build our pool. Jim was very understanding and helpful. He never once made us feel bad for "wasting" his time. We have moved on to other parts of our back yard renovation and Jim has been instrumental in the process. He has talked to our electrician to ensure there is enough amps for the pool and jacuzzi, he has come over to help when we accidentally busted a water pipe trenching for the jacuzzi and is always available to talk when we call him with random questions. We have not yet had the privilege of having DeMeo build our pool but I am looking forward to the day.
