Joe and Carol, thank you for all of your help and for being awesome! My wife and I wanted to…read moreupgrade our kitchen recently, so we called SoCal Mr. Fix It based on the reviews that I read here. Carol was great on the phone and did her best to schedule an estimate at my earliest convenience. My schedule is pretty hectic, so there was a small window available for her husband to visit our home. When we finally scheduled an appoinment, Joe arrived early and was very friendly. In fact, our Chihuahua loved him, and our Chihuahua does not easily warm up to new people. Oddly, our Chihuahua would not leave Joe's side, and Joe gave our dog plenty of attention in between measuring our kitchen walls and writing things on his notepad. When Joe left, our dog sat by the door and whined for a few minutes and then would not leave the door for several minutes after. This was definitely a good sign that Joe was someone that we could trust. Lol. The kitchen project took four days. He had to fix some drywall, apply new paint, install new cabinet hardware, and backsplash. While having people working in your kitchen for four days is not always fun, Joe was very considerate of our home. He covered our floors every morning and cleaned all work areas at the end of every day. He is also really fun to have conversations with. He is just a great and friendly guy. The kitchen looks great, and we are already creating another list of projects for Joe to complete in the near future. I cannot speak much about pricing because I did not bother to compare prices with other businesses. I did not care to get other estimates. My experiences on the phone with Carol and in-person with Joe was enough to hire him for the job. After our first meeting, I felt that I could trust them, and I did not care about price or shopping around. Heck, our Chihuahua loves Joe, and that is saying a lot.

My dad had these people come in and put a patio in along with a fence and a pad. The patio leaks when it rains, the patio pad was done sloppily, and there have been a few other issues. There was nothing worse than when I had other contractors come in for quotes on additional work to the backyard and they all mentioned how lazy of a job the patio had done. Every single contractor also asked how much we paid for the patio, pad & fence to be installed and each of those contractors said we overpaid by 15k-20k+. We ended up using a different contractor to do additional work and their price was significantly cheaper and done with a lot better care and quality. This isn't a free promo for the other contractor but rather a genuine review. While Specialty Builders does offer to come back out and fix what's not done correctly, it would be nice if we never had to worry about it in the first place. I'm sure they have different projects where they can show potential customers why they should be chosen and I'm not taking away from that. All I'm saying is, if you consider using Specialty Builders; it would be very wise to get different quotes to compare.

The follow-up customer service has been disappointing, unfortunately…read more After waiting several months to have leaks in my new awnings addressed, and after experiencing multiple rainfall events that clearly demonstrated the system installed by Home Improvements by Tim Allard is not adequately configured to handle the water load, I contacted the office and sent several text messages to Tom. Unfortunately, the response time for follow-up service has been extremely delayed--measured in months rather than days or weeks. The gutters on the awnings installed by Home Improvements by Tim Allard overflow significantly during normal rainfall. Before purchasing and installing the two 62-foot awnings, I specifically asked whether the system would be capable of handling the expected surface water runoff. I was assured that it would. However, it does not. Eventually, Scott returned to inspect the issue and acknowledged both the overflow problem and the need for an additional downspout. I purchased these awnings with the expectation that they would include a complete and properly designed drainage system capable of performing their intended function. I am now being told that I must pay an additional expense to install the downspouts necessary to make the system function adequately. This is not what I was originally told, and it raises a concerning question: Why would a system be sold and installed if it was not sufficient for the job from the start? I trusted Home Improvements by Tim Allard to provide a complete solution. Instead, the project remains incomplete, and I am left with overflowing gutters--a problem that did not exist with my previous system. I believe this issue should be corrected without additional cost to me, as the current configuration does not meet the expectations that were established at the time of sale. I hope this matter can be resolved promptly and fairly.
