I've been trying to look for a new spot to get lunch in the area & ended up going to DeLuca's Market to try their sandwiches! They're located in Charles St, which has lots of fun boutique shops & some food options. This is a mom & pop owned market where you can find good sandwiches and unique snacks that I haven't seen at other markets. We got the euro & prosciutto, which was ~$15. It's been a while since I've gone to buy a sandwich so I'm not sure if this is considered overpriced or not lol. I think for the portion size, it is a little overpriced but it did have good flavor. This is a little market near Boston common park. For being such a small place it is packed with groceries and fresh fruits and veggies and cheeses and premade goodies and salads. They also make sandwiches and breakfasts to order. I had a fantastic BLT made to order with whatever additions I desired. They also made a delicious smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel with all the fixins. And the prices were the lowest I've seen in anywhere. They have a few tables where you can enjoy the yummy offerings. I highly recommend if you want quick eats with great service. read more

DeLuca's is definitely charming, and after living in the area for a couple years now, I figured I should finally give it a try. Not only do they sell freshly made food and sandwiches here, it's also a mini supermarket with moderately expensive prices. For Beacon Hill, it's not surprising. I was craving a chicken caesar wrap and was happy to see they had one on the menu! The line to order was a bit confusing and chaotic, but I eventually got the attention of a worker and ordered my food. After a few minutes, it was ready and I brought it up to the front to pay. The sandwich itself was really nothing special at all. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great and I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to order it again. The caesar dressing taste wasn't my favorite and the chicken was slightly dry, but I appreciated the amount of greens in the wrap! I wish I asked for it to be grilled but lesson learned. read more

I don't understand the low reviews, DeLucas deserves 10 stars. Tucked away into the back of an adorable little market is a deli serving up fresh sandwiches & wraps. The smell upon entering the market is divine, you can smell all the fresh meats from the deli area reminiscent of what it smells like in the house on Thanksgiving day while the turkey is roasting. Do yourself a favor and get 2 chicken Caesar wraps (1 to eat now and 1 to eat later). We ordered a chicken Caesar wrap & a build your own turkey on sourdough. The turkey was solid, but the real star was the chicken Caesar wrap... the lettuce is freshly shaved and CRISP, the Caesar dressing is homemade garlicky gold, the chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned, the Parmesan is freshly grated. You can tell the ingredients are quality & simple - 2 things I very much love. We are from out of state and I'm going to be dreaming about the wrap. There is a little seating area with plenty of chairs to eat in house next to a cute decorated piano & the service was very friendly & fast. For the actual market section - everything was neat, organized, and aesthetically pleasing with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, snacks, chips, and to go food/drink items. Deluca's has greatly improved in recent years! Great market to grab quick deli food. Fun variety in the bravery section (though very high prices). Just don't buy the egg salad at the deli: it tastes sweet?! with no salt, no pepper, no celery, no dill, no nothing. read more

Stumbled into this market and decided to give it a try because I saw that they had banh mi sandwich on special. The banh mi was overall very good. The baguette was fresh, soft inside and crisp on the outside with savory ingredients. The ordering process was a little challenging as the cook was not sure of the final ingredients but was helped by another co-worker. Overall a positive experience and I enjoyed my banh mi. read more

This was the second time in this deli, and the employees were super nice and helpful, and the sandwiches frankly delicious! Mom got the Cuban, I had a roast beef and cheddar with horseradish. Why they are still in business is beyond me. Bought a cake mix and frosting can from here. Got home and wondered why the color was off. It had expired 3 years previously. They've been shut down. The store often smells like rotting food. I saw them poor clam chowder down the sewer, clearly marked because the water went to the Charles River. There was this employee, blonde haired middle-aged haggard woman, who was stocking shelves. An elderly man in front of me walked by her and she gave him an awful look, then I followed trying to get to the deli area. The haggard woman had the nerve to say "excuse you" to me as I walked by (I mean god forbid this tired hag let a customer walk by to get to the deli given the aisles are razor thin). DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! Dirty place. Food expired. When I saw cookies in their freezer that had been discontinued last year I brought them to the register. The expiration dates on all the cookies had been erased or somehow edged off. The women at the counter who spoke broken English played off like they had no idea what was going on. There were flies zooming around all over the store- sometimes normal for fruit and sandwich places but not in February.... For a convenience store in such a high end location you think the quality would be a bit better. Needless to say I felt like I needed to take a shower after I left that place. GROSS! I liked it. It's cute. It rounded off my Charles St. experience: strolling along past the common and the brownstones, eating at the famed Paramount, window browsing the restaurants I couldn't afford, ha, and then stopping into this cozy, if not overwhelming, European style market. No, I wouldn't shop there regularly for my everyday grocery needs. This is not a place to buy produce. But look behind the counter - I haven't seen meats and pre-made foods like that anywhere else in Boston. They have the kinds of French import cheese that scares away many Americans and amazing charcuterie offerings. Their olive oil selection is impressive, their pasta selection even moreso. The sauternes they keep under the glass are eye-poppingly golden. But what really got me is this: I asked one of the employees there if they carry pre-chopped onion. I can't chop my own because I have really sensitive eyes, and they usually keep some at my regular grocery store, so I figured they might have it. They didn't, but they offered to chop up an onion for me right there. I said no, no, I don't want you to go out of your way, I just thought you might have some already. They absolutely insisted. Nobody will do THAT for you at Whole Foods. I'm going back to buy some of the offerings behind the deli counter. Plates and plates and plates of different roasted vegetable mixes alone. Ridiculous. I do NOT trust the refrigeration or the quality control at the Charles St. Decluca's. I bought a container of milk only to discover it was spoiled when I got home! I didn't learn my lesson, bought a container of cheese ravioli, got home to cook it, and found it was growing mold inside. I used to live in Back Bay, and the Deluca's on Newbury was wonderful (I wrote a 5star review a year ago)! I never once bought something bad from the Newbury St. Deluca's. The Newbury St. Deluca's felt crisp and clean, while the Charles St. Deluca's looks disorganized and grungy. The contrast is striking. read more

Number one: run by the sweetest people. Company was recently passed down in the family, and the two new businesswomen are taking the market in a very refreshing direction. Feel free to talk to any workers in the store; they're all particularly friendly and 'real' people. Sometimes I walk through the market just to pretend I'm a young adult in Paris getting my weekly fix of fresh fruit. I love the healthy and sustainable options. If you need to put together a charcuterie board, or just pick up actually affordable healthy options, this is your place. Grumpy AF staff and a weird layout. Missing lots of grocery essentials. Yucky deli counter. I have accidentally purchased several expired items and am not impressed by the cleanliness. There is a wine cellar with a nice selection, but instead of staffing someone down there, they have someone bark through a walkie talkie, "What do you need!?" Until you reply or run away. So weird. It was late on Sunday night and my friends and I were desperately searching for some ingredients that we could use to cook dinner. Times were rough, and the quarantine was not making it easier since many stores were closing early. Just when we thought we were out of luck, we decided to call DeLuca's. On the phone, we were informed by the owner that the store was closing but they would stay open later if we were in the neighborhood. Not only did the owner keep the store open for us later, but he was extremely helpful and directed us to find all of the ingredients we needed to cook dinner. He also suggested some additional items that we greatly enjoyed, including a full pork shoulder. The store was neat and felt homey, and it had all of the items that we could possibly desire. There were also some hidden gems that we had not even thought of. All in all, my friends and I had a great experience at DeLuca's. Great service, great location, and nice inventory. Deluca's seemed promising at first, but it's a tease. For years, I've been looking for tri-color orzo. Sounds simple, right? Nobody has it. I had given up on it but in Deluca's, it was right there on the shelf! I grabbed it and walked around the store like I had won Megabucks. But then something happened. After I was carrying it for a while, I realized that it was dusty. Really dusty. So I looked for the expiration date just to see if maybe it had been sitting on the shelf for a while. The date was hard to find, but in little letters, there it was: "Best by Feb 15 2007". That was almost three years ago! I put it back and if you go look, it's probably still there. I'm not saying that everything they sell is expired, but read the other reviews. There are quite a few complaints about this. Deluca's is a cool store. The location is good, it's bigger than you'd expect inside, and there's a wide-ranging selection of eclectic food. But instead of an awning that says "FRESHEST BY FAR SINCE 1905", there should be one that just says "CAVEAT EMPTOR" . read more

This place tries to pass for an upscale grocery market, but they regularly let their products expire, let trash and even liquid spills accumulate on the ground, and once I saw a straight-up rat scamper in front of the deli counter. All the more offensive when you consider the jacked-up prices on even the most mainstream nonperishable grocery products. I find the busted-up bright yellow vintage piano sitting next to the checkout counter for no apparent reason quite amusing, but don't think you can use that to distract me from being completely repulsive, Deluca's! You play like you're Charles Street chic, but you'd be lucky to pass for decent compared to one of those weird-smelling Spanish Harlem bodegas that always have cats running around and who stock brands that you could have sworn stopped being made 4 years ago. read more

This gourmet market reminds me of similar New York markets.....it is convenient for anything you need but obviously the pull here is specialty food...cheese, meat, wine, chocolate....and they also have a killer salad bar that is VERY afforable.... However, if you catch one of the guys behind the counter, you might get lucky with the meat. (That sounded dirty.) Produce - absolutely terrible. I bought some basil from here - it tasted like dirt. I bought an apple from here, it had the texture of dirt. Good luck finding acceptable veggies. Prices - High. But it is a conveniently located market, so you expect the premium. Toothpaste, etc is ridiculously marked up. Redemption - They have a great selection of artisan cheeses, antipasto, and gourmet accoutrement.
