I was not sure what to expect for the pistol permit course, but it was great! One thing they made sure we understood up front is that we would not be doing a ton of shooting, which he said a lot of people were disappointed about. I felt like we needed the classroom time; we learned a lot of valuable info and shooting the gun is something we can do once our permits are all set. One thing that really helped me to be comfortable was how careful but confident everyone seemed about guns. I didn't expect this, but it helped me more comfortable with the idea of owning a gun down the road. I guess their facility is new. They were still working on some of the sections but the whole thing was totally functional, worked great for the class and the people on the gun range for the day. The building and the bathrooms were very clean. The instructor was great as well. He was a good teacher (very patient and paid attention and corrected mistakes while still allowing you to have your own personal style). Although I wasn't concerned before hand about this he was very positive toward the women in the class and was great about newbies. I feel we learned what we needed to know... in addition he joked around which helped keep the mood a little light, but he was very clear that guns are serious and you can't take back any mistakes. We met a few other employees between checking in and the gun range and everyone was nice and attentive. They were good at correcting and coaching without snapping. Very positive learning environment. I would recommend this place for any age or ability. read more

Been a loyal customer for about 6 years. I've taught my two boys to shoot there. Went today to shoot with my oldest 15yr old- father n son time. My son has handled a 9mm there numerous times without any issues. After purchasing an hour of range time and 15 minutes into our time, the owner sends one of his employees up to tell me my son can't shoot the 9mm. Says he needs to take a course or rent one of the .22 he has. So pretty much none of the employees stated that before my debit card paid for the hour. I left after 15 mins, no refund or anything. Why fill out a waiver if my son can't shoot?? Totally unprofessional and felt like my business didn't matter. Off to a new place to shoot!! The Delta staff is 5 stars in my book and always treated me with utmost respect. They also agreed with my situation. Can't say the same for the owner. read more

First of all when they say no steel penetrating ammo they mean steel cased ammo. They need to change their web site it is wrong. They confiscated mine today. I could care less but the range officer was pretty rude. Actually accused me of sneaking it in. Made me want to throw away my NRA certifications. 50 years of shooting and he got the award for the biggest jerk. Secondly if you go on a Saturday plan to shoot for only a half hour. Thats all the time they allow. Too busy. I guess this works for some, just not for me. If I have to rush through my recreational time it becomes non recreational. Great range and shop! My first time here and very impressed. A lot of shops in the state are arrogant and demeaning, the employees here were great! They wore clothing identifying they worked there (small but many places don't!) and were quick to ask if I needed any help or would like to see anything. Impressive inventory and competitive pricing. The range is EXTREMELY well kept. RSO keeps a watchful eye to ensure safety and cleanliness. Ventilation keeps the range smell free and easy to breathe. All in all, great place I'll definitely be returning to. For the gun range: Reasonably priced at $23 for an hour, allowing you to bring your own ammo is a big plus although they have reasonable prices. 10 lanes, might be a wait on the weekends. The only bothersome thing is allowing large caliber rifles in there. The sound is deafening for an indoor range. It throws off your concentration. Otherwise a nice place for a rainy day. read more

Love this place. Started going here when my husband and I purchased our first guns. All the guys have been so great. The first few times we went we obviously had a lot of questions being new gun owners. The employees never made us feel as though our questions were annoying or unwanted no matter how long the conversation took. The range itself is really nice and well kept. There are always available lanes. The guys actually on the range are awesome about answering any questions you might have and actually almost every time we go they come over with tips to help us improve even though we hadn't paid for a lesson. The lesson we paid for with Eric was awesome as well. We initially paid for a half hour but decided to extend to an hour and they accommodated us easily. He worked with us on techniques we would need in real world situations which is exactly what we were looking for. Overall this place is great mainly because of the staff but the facility and store hold up on there own as well. We are members here now and have no intention of switching ranges Antje soon. read more

What can I say, Delta Arsenal is nothing short of badass.. :) I live in Groton, and there are no public ranges that I have access to close by. I usually drive an hour to get to Delta, but they are so worth it. The ranges are well cared for, and the staff is second to none. Everyone that I have spoken with are current or former military, which is a plus for my wife and I, being retired military. I like the non-magnetic ammunition only rule, as sometimes the aluminum cased ammunition prices just cannot be beat at times to ignore buying them. No steel, none, don't even ask. Good selection of weapons to choose from, as well as Pre-Bans that will just make you drool. My wife and I decided on the Veteran Membership for our level of shooting for now, and I purchased a Springfield XDs 9mm from Tony Garibay. Go and see him if you can, he's a good man. Training, training, and more training is where it all starts to become better. Delta has the course curricula from the beginner to the advanced shooter in mind. One day, I want to get my wife into a course and develop her tactical mindset, but that's for another day. Stopped into Delta Arsenal to look at a Ruger LC9 that I have been wanting for a while. I spoke with Ian and he recommended me trying out a bit bigger of a gun since my main reason for getting the gun was to target shoot. He had me shoot some bigger guns and helped tailor a gun to fit my needs. I went to a big box gun store and they were ready to sell me on the LC9 and I would have regretted it. Come here to shoot only. I send my guns there for FFL transfer since it's $20 but now person to person they raised to $40. I'm done going to them for that. I can do myself over the phone for free person to person n takes less time. Ridiculous. Go to Waterbury gun store it's still only $20. Just sucks they r still better than Hoffmans for range and can bring your own ammo. I def won't buy gun here because they have crap selection. At least they r friendly for the most part. read more

Knowledgable staff, helpful, and decent pistol/light rifle indoor ranges. Can get a bit busy on the weekends so definitely give yourself sometime to get there a bit early because there may be a waiting list for the range. Prices are ok for items, but they're also a great FFL ($20 for most transfers) and will often give an honest opinion on what you're looking at buying. They can also order most things for you and can do most gunsmithing, but their gun smith is often very busy so expect it to be there for a bit waiting for him to get to it (depending on what you're having some of course). That being said, from what's been done for me, he does good work so I'd say it's worth the wait to get the job done right; that's been my experience anyway. Veteran owned too so I can respect that, and these vets are the real deal. NRA instructors to boot so you can take classes if you need/want to. read more

I am a big fan. Took permit class with Ian who was very professional and clear about the seriousness of carrying a firearm. Since then i took a private lesson and purchased two pistols. Since I am a newbie to the world of guns, I asked my son to locate a firing range, so we could try out my new pistol. My son is very knowledgeable when it comes to guns, and I felt that he could make sure my pistol was in good working condition. My son selected Delta Arsenal since it is only ten minutes from his home. Delta is an hour from my home. I liked the fact that Delta Arsenal is run by veterans. My Father was an army vet and my oldest brother was an army vet. Since vets are very Special people, I wanted to support their business by going to Delta. When we arrived, I was not disappointed. The facility where you register and show your Concealed Carry Permit is on the second floor. The room was filled with well-organized display cases holding everything that a gun owner would want to purchase. I saw several vets helping customers. My son and I registered for an hour of practice on the Range. The price for the hour was almost $25 dollars. If we wanted to shoot for half an hour, it would have cost us $15.The vet who registered us was very welcoming. My son asked him a few questions about the pistol he uses, and he was very satisfied with the information he received. Next, we proceeded to the third floor where the Range was located. We were very happy to see that Sean whom we had met downstairs was now stationed on the Range. He assigned a space where we could set up our targets. We asked Sean a few questions about my new pistol, and he definitely was familiar with some of my pistol's quirks. My son enjoyed talking to Sean about guns and ammo. We had a great session. Two weeks later, I decided to drive an hour and return to Delta on a solo trip. I was a little nervous about being on my own but was pleasantly surprised to see that Sean was monitoring the Range during my solo visit. I had many questions during my hour and Sean was so pleasant and reassured me. He was such a confidence builder, and I finally began to feel comfortable with my pistol. After about a month passed, I felt that I needed another trip to Delta to practice my skills. When I arrived to register, I saw Sean who accompanied me upstairs to the Range. He told Brendan, who was stationed on the Range, to provide any help that I needed. Brendan was fantastic! Periodically, Brendan would come over and make some excellent suggestions. He helped me improve my grip on my pistol, so I would have better control. He also made some improvements to my targets, so that I was fine-tuning my aim. After that session, I really have so much more self-confidence. If the weather stays clear, I hope to return to Delta Arsenal once a month. I sure am happy that my son located an excellent Range close to his home. I do not plan to go to any other Connecticut Range. I am so pleased with the guidance that I have received, and I hope to take some of their courses in the near future. read more

So, I went to Delta Arsenal for the third time, and I love that place. Each time I have used the indoor range, and I also have purchased varying amounts of merchandise as well. Major thumbs up to the employees for being so friendly, knowledgeable, and pleasant. I am pretty sure I heard that all of the employees are veterans (some still active) who have served overseas, except maybe one of the office staff. Especially grateful for the guys behind the counter being so understanding when I asked so many questions and had to be shown some basic things, as I am relatively new to being a gun owner (less than a couple years, but learning rapidly, and enjoying learning about safety, cleaning, etc.) There is nothing worse than going to a high-end retail store (music store, for example) and getting snobby, know-it-all employees to help you. It can be intimidating, and make for an unpleasant experience, either with a quick exit, or purchasing something without being 100% certain. I have never had that experience at Delta Arsenal in my multiple visits working with different people, and I *have* experienced that at more than one gun shop in CT. I would feel absolutely comfortable sending my sister or younger cousin in there to buy something, and not feel they would be taken advantage of, or ridiculed for not being an advanced marksman who knows all the lingo. I have spent close to a couple grand in there, between an EOTech holographic sight (which Henry zero'ed in for me, while I was using the pistol range...awesome!), a holster, some various parts, magazines, range time, and over 2,000 rounds of various rounds of target ammo, carry ammo, and their own reloaded once-fired rounds (they are reloading 9mm, .40, .45, 5.56, 308, and maybe a few other sizes as well). I was really happy when after coming in for the third time, a few people remembered my name. As I am a somewhat new shooter (especially with regard to handguns), I especially have appreciated the help Ian and Bobby gave me while using the indoor range. I basically learned how to clear malfunctions properly and effectively and efficiently and quickly from the range time I have had there. Prices are very good, in my opinion. I travel a bit throughout the state, so I do pop in different shops each week, and the prices on nearly everything is competitive, and there are some incredible deals to be had, as well. I am hesitant to mention the specific ammo deals, as inexpensive, quality ammunition by the case is still so rare in very early 2014.... There is also a really nice used and consignment collection of rifles and handguns. A VERY nice selection. One could do real well to purchase their first (or 20th) pistol/rifle inside this shop. Furthermore, the place is one of the few places in the state where you can rent pistols at the indoor range, and there are some real cool, unique options to rent & use! The Sig with the silencer? The collection of fully auto rifles on the wall? (This review would get 10/10 stars if the indoor rifle range were open....I hope it opens soon! I have not yet seen it, but I have heard the indoor rifle range is 100 yards long, and is almost completed and ready, if not so already. I have also heard rumors there is a third range in the works, one which will permit 50 cal fire?) By the way, the indoor pistol range is immaculate. The walls have fresh paint, the floors are buffed, there is absolutely NO stray holes or ricochet marks along the walls, floors, ceiling, etc., and the temperature inside the range is pleasant. In fact, I have not noticed any issue with the temperature, so I would imagine it is probably between 65-70 inside there. Immaculate, brightly lit, and super attentive & helpful Range Officers make Delta Arsenal's indoor range my absolute favorite place to shoot handguns in the state of Connecticut! This was a lengthy review, but I have been treated very well each time I visit Delta Arsenal... and when I get poor service I tell a couple people...and when I get impeccable service, I try and tell a hundred! What a great place! Where to begin? I guess the best thing about this place that really makes them stand out is their customer service. I am a novice gun owner and it is really refreshing to be treated like a valued customer. I have been to practically every major firearm dealer and range in the state of CT. What I have found is that nearly every single one of them has staff that are firearm experts, which is to be expected. What I found shocking though is that at most dealers and ranges if YOU are not an expert in firearms they treat you like a second class citizen, like you are an annoyance. Not at Delta though, they REALLY treated me right. I dealt for the most part with a young guy named Jimmy. I am sure I asked some very simple, maybe even stupid questions, but Jimmy treated me like the questions I asked were perfectly normal, and he could not have been nicer. As a result I ended up spending a couple hundred dollars today on night sights, Kydex holster, and an hour shooting on the range. And guess what? When it comes time to spend more money I am going to drive an hour to Delta to spend my money. That means driving past two other dealers, one of which is in my town! Anyone can learn to be a firearm expert, and there are plenty in CT, but Delta gets the fact that they are in BUSINESS, which means treating customers like, customers! Thank you Jimmy, and thank you Delta. I will be back to spend THOUSANDS of dollars with you. You hear so much about sales people with "attitudes" in gun shops. Well, there are none of those at Delta!. After calling first to make sure it was OK, I showed up with my shiny new 1874 Sharps reproduction in .45-70 so I could get it sighted in at close range before taking it to my club for use at longer ranges. When I walked in the guy at the front counter noticed the fringed suede carry cover and asked if I had a sharps in there, I did and opened it so he could examine it, he along with a couple of customers gave it some appreciative looks. After my shooting buddy and I were done being checked in we went upstairs to shoot. The man on the range was also very friendly and not the chip on the shoulder type you so often hear of. When we were done with that we then proceeded back downstairs and then began the REAL fun, we each rented a full auto weapon and a few sticks of ammo to fire from them. I had the Thompson M1A1 and my friend had the MP5. They walked us back upstairs with the sales guy carrying the guns and clips and we proceeded to have a great time blasting away with them. The Delta guy carefully explained each gun to us and then he stood behind us in the booth as we hosed down a couple of targets. It sure was a lot of fun made much better by the great folks at Delta! read more

Delta handled a tranfer for me on SW Sheild I purchased on gun broker. They were professional and courteous plus they charged less than any other FFL in the area. I really liked this place. They did some great work on a rifle for me in the past. That said...anyone that intends to have them do work had better get a price quote up front in writing. Aside from a AR15 build they did for me which ended up costing 3 times what I was told it would, no one called me to tell me that there were issues and it was going to require a lot more labor cost and no one called to even tell me the work was done. And, aside from charging 50.00 to install sights on a Glock... my fault for not thinking to ask first, the thing that I cant get past is not even test firing a new AR15 build that had such issues being built. Not one round was fired to even test cycling. I was told they never test fire anything!! Really??? You build a rifle from parts and don't test fire a few rounds thru it?? How would you feel about bringing your car in for major transmission work and the mechanic not even test driving it before giving it back to you. I don't know whats going on there because the owner Doug was very good to deal with and very knowegable. Also, Don't have the people answering your phone telling people its only 20.00-30.00 to assemble an AR. Again I really liked the place and Doug and his staff but this was not a good experience at all. I will have to really think about it before I use them again. Not test firing a brand new build?? . Don't get it???? ETA: 2/28/15...After speaking with Doug about my concerns he assured me that test firing was not necessary due to the fact that they have never had complaints and the function testing they perform is sufficient. read more
