Went for a girls day and paid $40 for the day. They have the options to rent guns also; $10 pistol rental and $20 long gun rental. Purchase an annual membership for less than $600 First time trying this range out with a few friends. It was a little busy, but there were enough booths for the shooters. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There were pistol courses going on for the indoor range, and there is birds shooting with the Clay plates available (not sure of the days and times) Definitely double up on ear protection or make sure yours are high in quality. We were there for about two hours and I still have ringing in my ear even with protection. Stay safe and happy target practicing! read more

One of the few outdoor ranges. Very safe and structured. Range masters are on top of their game. One of the few ranges I've been too where there has been consistent supervision. I should note they are extremely helpful and welcoming too, one of them helped me set my zero a few weeks back. The store leaves something to be desired, almost as if it's an afterthought, probably would be better suited not to sell guns and just carry targets and ammo, that said this isn't their primary business and it's 2020 when no one has inventory. Surprisingly I had a good chicken wrap from the cafe, I was expecting something totally different but this was freshly cooked and tasty! (Don't think they have a lot of yelpers eating there. They seem to do a lot of classes, and have good organization around them. Overall I've been very pleased here and despite the almost one hour drive, I still tend to come up regularly. read more

I took my pistol permit class here last weekend with our instructor being Mark, and the whole class was amazing! The 8 hours flew by as the instructor kept us interested and informed the entire time. When compared to other ranges their daily rate is the best around and they seemed like they actually cared... with other ranges I've been to it really feels like the customer is an afterthought. They have a snack shack and food trucks regularly and the bathrooms were clean and updated. I'll be coming back for sure! Don't waste your time with other CT ranges that have weird rules and bad/surly staff, come visit a women owned business that cares. You're in good hands here. This is the place to take your training classes. I was there this week for a permit class and the group was diverse with both virtual and in person instruction. Our instructor was Mark and let me tell you, this was a fantastic class. Not your run of the mill, yack yack yack.. it was informative, interesting and entertaining all at the same time. 8 hour class that flew by because the information was presented in a way that kept your attention and applicable to real life situations. Came here to purchase a new pistol on Black Friday and throughout my entire purchase the guy helping me was nothing but sarcastic and being a smart a**, i don't recommend buying a firearm from here unless you want to have a bad experience, dont even get me started on them selling my buddy a rifle with a threaded barrel not being welded... big mess. I've been here a bunch of times with my dad and it's not a bad place to go and one of the only places to go in the area. The range is a bit dated and could use a few upgrades but it is perfect for what it is. They have a field across the street where you can shoot shotguns and clays. They have a very small indoor range. The outdoor area is covered and you can shoot pistols on one end and rifles on the other end. I see a lot of posts that the staff is not friendly, but I have never encountered anyone that was not friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They have a small store and snack bar. I feel like the price is pretty reasonable for a daily rate. You pay for the day and can shoot as much or as little as you like at any section of the range. read more

Large outdoor gun range. Very dated but friendly staff. They sell used guns and there selection varies. All-in-all one of the cheaper ranges as they have all day rates. They do have an indoor rage but it is limited to .22 caliber. Sometimes they have a branch of military or police that is practicing however the automatic fire is extremely annoying. There trap range is the best around, no one bothers you and it is inexpensive. read more

Took a class here and almost froze to death and i'm a big dude who is normally hot. Some of the women in the class literally had chattering teeth. The "classroom" was also very dirty, there is no reason to not sweep and mop a floor. Also they just have metal chairs lined up. At one point you need to take a test and there aren't any tables to do this on. You just have to write on your lap, on a metal chair next to you if its open, or on a manilla envelope. The instructor was pretty nice, however I could have done without all of the comments about democrats being bad. I am a democrat and was there for the same reason as everyone else. At first I thought it may just be that particular instructor until the attorney started making comments again about liberals and democrats. Newsflash - not all liberals and not all democrats think guns are bad. Maybe if you were all-inclusive you would have higher than a 3 star average. Last but not least - my class was in the winter and it was dark. The men's bathroom was down at the end of the building and old, dirty, freezing, and looked like the sort of room you see on a law and order episode after a crime had been committed. The only positive things I have to say is that they were very good and diligent about the paperwork at the end of the class and the person at the little grill was really nice. read more

I attended the pistol permit class instructed by Fred he was great - knowledgeable, patient and forthright. Fred has a great attitude and was very helpful and extremly patient with our class. He really cared about each one of us - not only passing the test but fully understanding how to SAFELY handle, own and operate a handgun. I really appreciate that Blue Trail's brings in a CT attorney to cover all the laws regarding carrying and the implications we may encounter, he discussed how to handle traffic stops and answered all our questions. The chairs have a built in desk top for taking our tests, I came in a group of three and not one of us were uncomfortable or had a complaint about it. Actually my husband commented they were really cool. Tom was my instructor in the range and he was also great, he gave me good advice and let me take my time getting comfortable with a gun in my hand for the first time. Everyone there were pros, they know their stuff and are nice people even just to chat with. If you arrive with a good attitude you'll have a great day. read more

I like this place because it is a local range where you can shoot off a few rounds. I haven't been here in a while, but the last time I went it was 20 dollars to go to the shotgun field and shoot for a whole day. (EDIT: I see now it's 26 bucks, I blame inflation) Granted that 20 dollars is just the price to use their field to shoot your own clays and your own shells, but this is Connecticut, and there aren't too many places where you can go and shoot off your shotgun. In the grand scheme of things, those 20 dollars will be the cheapest part of the whole shooting day. Ammo and clay these days cost an arm and a leg. The best part is that they pretty much leave you alone. You can bring any shotgun you want, my friend brought his Benelli M4 combat shotgun to shoot clays and they were totally fine with it. You can hand throw your own clays or bring a launcher. 20 dollars, and you can go trigger happy for a whole day in the shotgun field. The only time I ever had something said to me was when I rapid fired from the Semi Auto. They called over and said "no rapid fire" Fair enough. They also have a indoor range for .22 cal which I've never used because I haven't shot a .22 cal since high school and don't own one. They also have a pistol and rifle range that I've used before. It used to be hourly on the weekends, but looking at their website they might have stopped that. It was also a reasonable rate I feel like. As for their food or store, I've never actually bought anything from them. I always bring all my supplies and food from elsewhere. I assume that just like buying food at the movie theater or baseball game, it will be quite expensive. read more

He was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions which happened to be a lot. I really appreciated the lawyer Craig who came in. This was very insightful on the new laws and gave us many examples which was very helpful. I would highly recommend taking the class here and if you have Fred as your instructor that is a huge bonus. Today I went to Blue Trail Range for the pistol permit class. Mark was my instructor and boy did he deliver! Mark consistently followed the curriculum with accuracy and a sense of humor. I followed and retained every word he said. I truly believe we are only as good as our teacher and I will stride to perform with excellence as he did today. The range is very clean and all of the employees are attentive to the customers needs. I've found my home range and it is an honor to support a female owned business. I have never experienced worst customer service before at a facility. Blue Trail Range customer service employees do not take into consideration of what their customers have to ask. I called today at 11:35a.m to ask about rentals and prices and this woman employee answered and was unbelievably rude. This employee would not let me speak and accused me of cutting her off when all I was trying to do was ask a question. When this employee was done, I attempted to reiterate what I wanted to ask and her response was "What did I just say?". I do not recommend going here if you are looking for an enjoyable experience. read more

Shotgun range is great but outdoor pistol range is not great for a six foot tall person like myself, they have plywood down that makes it impossible for me to stand and shoot. The indoor store is absolutely terrible. High prices for guns in not great shape and when I asked about sights for my glock they said that they would not even order them for me. Maybe it's because I'm in my 20's but my father has always gotten treated well but it's usually a different story for me. They older guy with white hair is especially rude to me. I'll continue to shoot skeet there but I get treated better at other stores that also have much lower prices read more

I've never been much of a Yelp reviewer, but I'm such a huge fan of this place that I felt they deserved a glowing review. 1) The outdoor range is huge, which is extremely rare in CT. I'm able to rotate between rifle, shotgun, and pistol at my pleasure. 2) The staff is super friendly. Back when I first started getting into shoot, they went out of their way to give me advise and helpful tips on being a responsible gun owner. I even took some of their classes, which were very informative about the safety and the state laws (they obviously know their stuff). All in all this is a great place to spend some time over a weekend or even after work. read more

Wow, lots of haters on here and I am wondering if the negative reviews are solely written by folks wanting to take away our second amendment. The tales they weave seem fake, phony and false. Do you really want to go to a shooting range where hillbillies and hoodrats are unsafe and put other lives in danger? NO! Skip those fake news folks and know this is a great place for people of all colors and political opinions to get your CT Pistol Permit by certified NRA instructors. A YYYuge added bonus was a 1 hour discussion from an attorney and time in the indoor range firing 3 different pistols. I couldn't find another class in New England that offered this package. Another cool bonus were the cool classmates. There was a huge mix of male & female, ethnicities, couples, families and age ranges. This is a family business and it looks like they are taking steps to revamp it. Their first and most important priority was the brand new range construction, especially since they have special service members practicing regularly. Yes the bathrooms and buildings are dated, but I am grateful this place exists, especially as other places close down due to the lack of patronage. My instructor was Mark who did an outstanding job explaining the do's, don't and how to operate a firearm. With over 30 years of experience, he was so thorough. Probably the worst gun range I have ever been to. First you cannot shoot pistol and rifle on the same range, you have to wait for a cease fire, pick up all your things from pistol, run into the office tell them you're switching and try to get to the rifle range before the cease fire ends. When we first arrived we went in and paid for the time at the range and Deb I believe her name was, was extremely kind and helpful, however when we went to the pistol range, it was apparently in the middle of a cease fire so we went out put up our targets, our pistols were in lock boxes inside our bags on the ground keeping the table open. As we are walking back to the range I take my wallet, phone, and keys and put them on the table and I walk to the fence to wait for the cease fire to be over. As we are standing there a range officer, don't know his name comes over yelling "when I say stay away from the tables I mean you stay away!" I responded politely "when did you say that? We just walked in." He replied "I said it over the PA, next time you do it you're gone, you got me?!" in a nasty tone. I understood it's his job to keep the range and everyone safe so I replied "yes sir." Then he replies "you're not the only person here, you do it again you're gone and you're never coming back." Again I reply "yes sir." Now I think I was yelled at for putting my keys down on the table walking back from the cease fire but he never actually explained what I did because I never heard his announcement since we were inside paying, he just yelled. We ended up staying for 30 minutes because it was such a lousy time. Then the next cease fire, we grabbed our target and stood by the fence, the people in the stall next to us stayed and were actually handling their firearms during the cease fire as a different range officer said over the PA directed at them "step away from the table and leave your firearms" meanwhile the range officer who yelled at us is standing behind them and get this, doesn't say a word to them. So me and my friend decided to pack up and head to delta arsenal which the employees there were the friendliest and most helpful people I've ever met. As we are leaving my friend walks up to the range officer and said "I'm sorry for what we did, I just wanted to say we are sorry" and he responds "yeah, whatever." So my friend says again "again, I'm sorry, have a nice day." He again responds "whatever." He was the most rude worker I've ever met. I understand his job is to keep the range safe and all the other officers were great except this one. I wish I got his name. But it's very clear I'll never be coming back, I'll take his advice there. I'll stick with Delta and The State Range. read more

I should qualify this review by saying that I went to Blue Trail during a torrential downpour. It was also a weekday afternoon. I believe these two conditions factored heavily into my experience there, and your mileage will almost certainly vary. The road that Blue Trail is on floods easily. If it's raining heavily, and you don't drive some sort of SUV or truck, you might consider going on a different day. Given the weather, I did not use the outdoor range facilities. The indoor range is for .22 caliber only. I bought some reasonably-priced paper targets from the adjacent gun shop. Weekdays are $19 for unlimited range time, but I understand that weekends are a bit pricier because you pay by the hour. Overall, the indoor range is acceptable, but far from ideal. It was a comfortable temperature, and mostly clean, but had the look of a place that has gone many decades without renovation. My biggest problem was that it's generally not well lit. Target distance is fifty feet, with no numbered incremental markings, and no target lighting anywhere except at the full distance (a major disappointment for anyone using a semi-automatic pistol as opposed to a rifle). The target movement controls are old-school, manual hand crank. However, they are easy to operate and appear to have been well maintained. There's no shelving, benches or tables of any kind, which would have been a considerable inconvenience if I wasn't the only shooter there. Finally, the rightmost lanes were quickly starting to flood near the end of my session. The building apparently has some leakage problems. The staff didn't make any particular impression on me, good or bad. While they weren't rude, they weren't ostensibly helpful either. They served their purpose, and answered my questions curtly but informatively. As an aside, I was told to always call ahead on weekdays, because they frequently have scheduled events going on and the range may not be available. I would visit Blue Trail again, mainly because it's a mere five miles from my residence. The convenience factor outweighs the negative aspects I've mentioned. But my recent experiences at other local shooting ranges have left me a bit spoiled, I suppose. I think Blue Trail needs to make some changes and improvements if they are to remain competitive.
