So informative and friendly, they really make sure everyone is confident, safe and knowledgeable about firearms.

I would give this place a 4.5 star rating only because I want more of it. Lol always room for…read moreimprovement but SGA is awesome and well deserved 5 stars. The most important thing about any place of business is going to be staff. The Staff here are friendly and it's a small community or family type atmosphere. The best part of this shop is the range. Nice and clean, great sound deadening, and the air is so clean. I spend a lot of time in the range so I really appreciate the air quality. Range is great for pistol shooting and some tactical shotgun and long guns. State of the art carrier system and all lanes are working. The place is usually busy but never really have had to wait more than a few minutes to get to a lane. Pricing is good for range time and there is an option for membership. The selection of rentals could be better but it's enough that if you have never shot you have a good selection. The store has a small selection of the most popular pistols and some long guns with decent prices. Overall the range, Store, and especially staff are great. And I highly recommend this place. This is the best indoor range with in 30 miles of my town I have been to in the area.

A group of clowns is called an "alley." I did not know that before this week, but after attempting…read moreto complete a simple FFL transfer through Stratford Guns and Ammo, I now feel qualified to teach the subject at the graduate level. I called ahead to confirm they could handle the transfer. They said yes, no problem. They gave me their email address and told me to have the seller's FFL contact them. Perfect. Simple. Routine. A process that, in theory, should require less coordination than launching a moon mission. The seller emailed them on Monday to confirm they were willing to receive the firearm and to request a copy of their FFL. By Wednesday, the seller let me know they had heard absolutely nothing back. Not a "yes," not a "no," not a carrier pigeon, not a smoke signal. Nothing. So around noon on Wednesday, I stopped by in person. Behind the counter were two perfectly pleasant guys who informed me that they do not have access to the store email account. Which is an interesting business model for a store that gives out its email address as part of its business process. That is a little like a restaurant saying, "Sure, we take reservations online, but unfortunately nobody here can access the internet." They told me the owner would have to handle it. I left my information, the seller's information, and presumably my hopes and dreams on a small invisible altar behind the counter. They said they would contact me when it was all set. Four hours later, no word. I called to follow up and was told they would get to it, but the store was busy. I found this surprising because every time I have been in there, the place has appeared to be staffed by two or three armed guys standing behind a tiny gun counter, bravely defending it from the threat of customer service. At that point, I called another local FFL. He told me he usually does not handle transfers for firearms he does not sell himself and suggested I try Stratford Guns and Ammo. I told him I had already tried them, had even gone there in person, and that they had been completely unresponsive. Without missing a beat, he said, "Let me guess, two or three guys standing behind the counter not doing a damn thing, but incapable of helping you?" I said, "HA. So you've been there?" That moment alone was more efficient than my entire interaction with Stratford Guns and Ammo. To his credit, after hearing the story, the other FFL agreed to help with the transfer. It is now Friday, and I still have not heard a word from Stratford Guns and Ammo. To recap: I called first. They agreed to take the transfer. The seller emailed them. They ignored the seller. I went there in person. They took my information. I called again. They said they were busy. And then they vanished into whatever administrative Bermuda Triangle apparently exists between their counter and their email inbox. The guys I spoke with were nice enough, but the experience was ridiculous. If your business agrees to handle FFL transfers, then handling the FFL transfer feels like an important part of the process. Possibly even the main part. Overall, a disappointing experience wrapped in a sitcom episode. Would not recommend unless you enjoy side quests, unanswered emails, and watching three grown men lose a battle with their business email account.

I recently took the pistol permit (one day) class with Joe and his staff, which is offered on…read morealternating Saturdays and Sundays. I found their groupon deal, which was one of the most reasonable priced places in the area. Joe was knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about what he does. They also offer add on services like passport sized photos and notarizing of your paperwork, at an extra (but nominal) fee. Additionally, they offer various other classes, like security training, CPR/first aid, self defense, etc. as well as 1:1 firearm instruction. Their classroom was a bit tight, as the class I attended had a large number of people in attendance. There wasn't enough space between the rows of tables and chairs to get up without everyone in the row needing to also stand up for the people sitting on the inside against the wall. A bit distracting, but that is my only (negative) feedback. Also, to note: the morning half of the instruction is in the classroom followed by a (lunch) break of one hour. Then, everyone is expected to meet up at the gun range (Delta Arsenal in Wallingford about 20 minutes away) for the hands-on portion of the class, where you get to shoot/practice with an instructor. I had assumed we would be shooting at the nearby gun range in Orange, but it wasn't a huge deal. Just might be helpful, so attendees can know what to expect before signing up. Most of the 2 hours in the range was spent waiting, as they do provide 1:1 time with Joe or one of his staff while shooting. You can shoot the basic hand gun or "buy up" to try a range of different sized guns for $20 extra. You get a signed certificate at the end of the class which you can submit to your city/town with your full pistol permit application and Joe makes himself available during that process, should you need help or advice.
