I was introduced to Alan and PP Plus through a friend who also took the class here. We did the course on a Wed. We only had 3 people in the class, two had never handled a gun before, one male one female. They both left pretty excited about the experience and shooting pretty well I was actually really impressed with Alans attention to Safety details but also he coached them on marksmenship. The class took a good portion of the day and then we went to the range where Alan had 10 guns of many different calibers and sizes for the class to shoot. NET NET what a great experience. I feel safe and secure with handguns after my time with Alan and Pistol Protection Plus. Really great experience. This is the place to get your concealed carry pistol permit in CT.

Though they will instruct anyone. and they do it well. They specialize in helping women and ensure they are relaxed and comfortable. They have a great way about taking the jitters out of you. They also specialize with instruction of the Physically disabled. I immagine not all can complete this course do to some of the physical needs in handeling firearms. However, when there ther was a gentleman who had lost all three fingers in the middle left with just a pinky and thumb and he did very well after some special instruction and attention. Well if you are just a person looking to learn how to safetly handle pistols and revolvers these people are by far the best I know.

I did notice this last time as someone else mentioned below, I was there an hour and the owner went to charge me for 1.5 hours. I told him I had only been there an hour and he changed the bill, but that is never a good sign. In any case, the website says Monroe Shooting Sports has tons of different classes to try so I figured I would try one. As I was leaving the range I spoke to the owner about what might be best and he suggested a 1x1 "mini class" the following Tuesday (a week later) and I said great. The website shows "mini" classes as $89 for 1.5 hours...fine. I email him (his preferred method of communication) to confirm and he says bring pistol, holster and 100 rounds of ammo and I will shoot for an hour. Odd it's 1 hour instead of 1.5 but okay....when I asked why he didn't respond. The day of, he sends an email, doesn't even have the decency to call, and says "Sorry I need to cancel today I am not taking on any new clients, but please consider a private lesson." Obviously a very disorganized place. After talking to the owner the first time to decide what to try, most of what is on the website isn't really offered...ie the mini classes, TIPS Tuesday, etc. In any case, crappy experience and he didn't care enough to follow up which surprises me as it's so important to put best foot forward out with shooters...new or experienced. Too many places to shoot for bd service and follow-up.

The place is clean and large, the selection is vast. The issue is after the purchase and going to this DMV style room with these miserable people that are processing the last portion of your purchase is horrific! It's worse than the DMV because these people are packing. During my last visit there I was made to wait for an additional hour and a half just to get some paperwork processed. They also processed at least four people that started waiting after I arrived. The woman was constantly panting and is clearly distress, she should be employed elsewhere where she doesn't have to deal with the public. I went with a friend who was impressed by the level of care and service on the sale side, but horrified and will never buy from the store now because of the experience after.

I recently took the pistol permit (one day) class with Joe and his staff, which is offered on…read morealternating Saturdays and Sundays. I found their groupon deal, which was one of the most reasonable priced places in the area. Joe was knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about what he does. They also offer add on services like passport sized photos and notarizing of your paperwork, at an extra (but nominal) fee. Additionally, they offer various other classes, like security training, CPR/first aid, self defense, etc. as well as 1:1 firearm instruction. Their classroom was a bit tight, as the class I attended had a large number of people in attendance. There wasn't enough space between the rows of tables and chairs to get up without everyone in the row needing to also stand up for the people sitting on the inside against the wall. A bit distracting, but that is my only (negative) feedback. Also, to note: the morning half of the instruction is in the classroom followed by a (lunch) break of one hour. Then, everyone is expected to meet up at the gun range (Delta Arsenal in Wallingford about 20 minutes away) for the hands-on portion of the class, where you get to shoot/practice with an instructor. I had assumed we would be shooting at the nearby gun range in Orange, but it wasn't a huge deal. Just might be helpful, so attendees can know what to expect before signing up. Most of the 2 hours in the range was spent waiting, as they do provide 1:1 time with Joe or one of his staff while shooting. You can shoot the basic hand gun or "buy up" to try a range of different sized guns for $20 extra. You get a signed certificate at the end of the class which you can submit to your city/town with your full pistol permit application and Joe makes himself available during that process, should you need help or advice.
