Wednesday, August 3rd, I had a horrible experience with Delta. (I have been a loyal Delta customer for many years and, normally it's a good experience, but this was the worst.)
My two-leg trip left Syracuse NY on time around 6 PM, landed in Atlanta GA on time, expecting a 10:23 pm connection to Myrtle Beach. Flight was delayed to 10:45 pm - no problem. Then the screen showed and I received an email it was delayed until 3:09 AM. I was offer a hotel room, but I declined because I would have to be back at airport at 1:00 for security check-in anyway. So I curled up on the floor and napped.
At 2:00 am, there was no gate agent and only one other passenger, but the screen still showed the 3:09 am flight. The other passenger (a 70-yr old lady) and I went in search of an agent to get an update. We went from Concourse C to Concourse A (walking, because the trains weren't running on full schedule) and found a Delta Help Desk. The lady there informed us our flight was now scheduled for 7:09 am on Concourse T.
We made our way to Concourse T, found the gate, and settled in on the floor to sleep a little while. No email or text informing me my flight had changed and nothing on my Delta app.
A gate agent arrived at 5:30 am and we asked him to verify the flight. He could not find either of us listed as passengers. He told us the 7:09 AM flight was most likely going to be cancelled because he was only showing a few passengers even listed. He said I had been transferred to a 6:05 AM flight to LaGuardia with 1 hour layover for connection to Myrtle Beach flight and the other passenger (the 70 year old lady) was on a 7:10 AM flight to LaGuardia with 30 minute connection to Myrtle Beach flight. I was cautiously confident that an hour was long enough for me to jump off one plane and onto another, but she was very upset about going to NY and having 30 minutes between planes.
I called Delta customer service, explaining the situation and asking if I rented a car and drove to Myrtle Beach, would Delta reimburse me. She assured me they would, told me to keep my receipt and upload it online.
I rented a car and drove myself and the 70-yr-old lady 5.5 hours to Myrtle Beach, dog-tired and sick with a sinus infection. We were miserable but determined to get home.
August 5th I filed a complaint and claim online, submitting my receipt for the rental car. The email I got acknowledging my case said it could take 30+ days for a response. 30 days will be tomorrow and I'm still waiting.
Hoping I hear something SOON and receive a refund for my car rental. A travel voucher for the ordeal would be appreciated too. It was AWFUL. read more
