Spirit Airlines is the Greyhound of the skies. Keep that mindset and it's likely your experience will be fine. If you have an important business meeting or a time-sensitive event, consider using a different airline, or leave ample time in case flights are delayed or cancelled. I've flown Spirit Airlines quite a few times, always a direct flight, and have been on time more than not. Also, each flight, no matter how lengthy the delay, departed and arrived safely. To keep prices low, Spirit charges for amenities that most other airlines include, like baggage and water. Again, it is the Greyhound of the skies. Repeat like a mantra when things go awry. The most important part of making the Spirit Airlines adventure go as smoothly as possible is to book everything in advance. Everything, if you can. I pay for a seat, and I usually pay for a carryon. Use their App, and do as much as you can electronically. The fewer people you have to interact with, the better. Pro tip: in addition to the Spirit Airlines app, download the FlightAware app before your trip. This super handy app shows you the location of any plane, anywhere. It knows where your plane is, even if the Spirit Airlines employees do not, or decline to tell you. read more

I give this one star, because I was safely returned to my destination. However I have had problems with the woman wearing a hajib who pushed the Spirit jail chair to my gate. I haven't flown this airline in years due to in the past, cancellations, cracked plane, while in air my plane ran out of gas, etc. My daughter had a baby, early, she and her husband flew me to NY for the event. I was dropped off at the airport (@LaGuardia) and acquired one of those jail wheelchairs. A tiny woman wearing a hajib with her face draped, did not introduce herself to me began to push me towards Gate 3 on 5/28/23 at about 11 AM. As she pushed me up the ramp, she began to complain this was one half hour. I am not a jumbo sized person, I'm proportioned to my height. She pushed me to the snack stand when I told her I wanted a Diet Pepsi. This woman kept showing me bottles of water at least 6 times and insisting I purchase it. I was left on the ramp and could not decide for myself what substitute I could decide on, or if I wanted a snack. I had to shout to her. There was a cashier who suggested the water, again I said, "No, Diet Pepsi please". She offered me Diet Coke, which I refused. Finally the woman in the hajib pushed me close to the refrigerated display and I chose a Diet Dr. Pepper. Drama over - not on your life, this was just the beginning. The woman in the hajib huffed and puffed and pushed me to Gate 3, complaining about the half hour and I could not understand the rest, as she was behind me. I am not deaf. She sounded angry and I don't know why. We got to the gate, here is the big problem. Being that my granddaughter was born prematurely, I had no time to get to the bank, I had no cash. I was apologetic and felt terrible I had no tip to give her. A tip is a gift, not a demand. She stood beside me and said "So that is it?" Once again, I explained my plight and apologized. She did not like that and headed off, to the right past Gate 3. She spoke to a woman and came back again. She said, "so you have nothing for me?" I am feeling embarrassed, pressured and humiliated. I explained the situation and she ran off to the same place a second time. with her iPhone in hand, telling me to photograph her DILAFROZE contact off her cellphone. I said no. She insisted I photograph it to send her money. I feel shaken down, and if I had a tip for her, it would be verbal and not monetary, at this point. She goes back to the desk where she had previously had been and came back EVEN STRONGER DEMANDING I PHOTOGRAPH HER DILAFROZE contact page. I was afraid she would hurt me and there was no security around that I could see. I was tired, in pain and frustrated with her. She held her iPhone up and put it close to mine and demanded I photograph this contact she had. A gentleman sitting nearby said he had Zell and knew nothing else. I held my phone a distance from her and photographed the page. I knew I did something I didn't want to do, but I felt threatened. She ran back to the desk and didn't come back again. I am not a cheapskate, and I do generally tend to be a generous tipper. A tip is a gratuity, not a demand. She got a salary and her behavior was reprehensible. I went home and a couple of hours later, I get a message that I was declined my charge of $323.00 at Buffalo Wild Wings. First of all, I have NEVER been to that food chain in my life, I cannot eat that many wings, and I NEVER made that purchase. I called my credit card company and closed the account. Today I will be closing my other credit cards, as I have no idea of what type of device she used to do this. Terminal A at LaGuardia only houses Spirit and Frontier. I was on Spirit. In the future, if another baby is born, I WILL NEVER FLY SPIRIT AGAIN. The stewardesses were great, the captain got us to SC safely and early and I have no complaints about the plane, except the first row seats do not recline. My flight went well. But before the flight, once I entered the terminal, I never felt worsen my life, then I was being scammed. Please beware. I'm sorry, one final thing, I called the airline 4 times yesterday, received a pre-taped call and was disconnected. I called today, spoke to a human, who disconnect me 2 times, before I got to speak. I received a (Listed as spam) phone call, listened to a recording, then a human. I asked if our conversation was being recorded or if she was typing down my words, she said it was being recorded, so I explained the story. When the rest of the industry uses a 50 lb bag limit, Spirit knocks that down to 44, seeming to deliberately stick it to you when traveling. They tag on another $80 for that 6 pounds. And god forbid you go a pound over 50, which nearly doubles the overweight charge. I get it, they need to charge for overweight, but they should at least comply with the industry standard 50 lb bag. Well I'm happy that there is a seasonal flight to Minneapolis from Myrtle,so I can see my daughter. But the flight to there was horrible. The flight attendants seemed rude,rushed and negligent. The one flight att,got into above head storage like 9 times to her personal stuff,not flight related I could tell. And slammed the door loud and proud as she could. Woke up the ones sleeping,without a care. I'd actually give 0 stars but what had me give a 2 was,each way was on time. And also was at great ease to change my flight back to Myrtle do to Dorian hurricane, getting flight canceled. They got me on next flight easily and that was great. She put the bag on the weight counter and precede to as the manager attendant DAISY what she needed from her. This woman' made a rude comment and then told her she would not let her on the flight because she was rude. She begged this DAISY to let her on the flight. She has a 2 officers come over . Conner explained the whole story sobbing the entire time . Spirit offers cheap airfare with no bags..,and you may or may not make it to your destination in two days. The board is from Fort Lauderdale is currently lighted up with delay everywhere...not our first Spirit trip.,,but probably the last. We have been flying with Spirit and Delta quite a bit. My parents brought my two nephews for a visit to Myrtle Beach, where we live, and this airline screwed them six ways to Sunday with added fees, electronic boarding passes that didn't work, missed flights, and baggage scales that were absolutely full of shit. Terrible customer service! Lazy people who do not care in the least. Refused to issue my boarding pass because I arrived fourty two minutes before my flight. Apparently their policy requires you to arrive no later than fourty five minutes prior to the flight leaving. Because of this I had fly out the next day and pay an additional $79. On the the return flight they charged me an additional $99 to change my flight to one that departed a few hours earlier on the same day. Our flight was scheduled at 5:10 yesterday. They had us board the plane sat for 10 minutes then made us get back off claiming maintenance. After sitting until 9:30 with no updates they finally cancelled. They put us up in a very horrible Days Inn hotel that had bugs and the musty smell that made you gag walking down the halls and into your room. I had to cover my mouth just to breathe. There was a dog that barked like it was being held hostage that many other passengers also heard and complained about. Everyone we spoke to felt the hotel was run down and feared the worst about taking bed bugs or who knows what home. They rebooked us for today told us flight would be at 8:00 everyone at the gate except we had no flight crew. They finally showed up about 9:15. We finally made it home. I'll first say that I used to fly about every 2 weeks with them . From Myrtle beach to Detroit Michigan. Between delays and cancel flight , the are terrible. I get when it's weather related . For the most part . One time I know there saw 8 inches of snow gonna hit Michigan. They knew it for days , they never canceled the flight , so I drove there , every 20 minutes check to make sure it wasn't canceled . I live about 1.5 hours away . Get there still days in time . 5 minutes before the flight is supposed to board they canceled it . I looked up other flights that would get me there the next day at the time I needed . Talked to customer service they wouldn't help me . I bought a flight to go to Philly in October. I bought the flight in august. They sent me an email that they canceled that flight ..... why sell me a flight if your not gonna honor it . Idk what they got going on . But there is nothing good with them . This review details the horrific 24 hours that I, Jun Okada, and my partner, Pious Ahuja, have had because of Spirit Airlines. Our confirmation number is #DEII5Q and we had a flight scheduled from Cancun (CAN) - Fort Lauderdale (FLL) - LaGuardia (LGA) on June 21, 2019. The flight from FLL-LGA was delayed by over 2+ hours before it was eventually cancelled. We had to literally run and stand in line with entire flight worth of passengers to get to the Customer Service desk. The line was crazy and there were many fights (both physical and verbal) with no Spirit agents there to control the line madness. Everyone was trying to cut and skip each other and it was a very scary sight to see. Once at the customer service desk we were able to get a flight on June 22, 2019, the next day, which would bring us from FLL - Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) - LGA at 7:15 am. We received no information on hotels or vouchers and had to spend the night on the airport grounds. In the morning, the flight from FLL - MYR was delayed by over an hour. When at FLL, we were trying to get information from Customer Service Agent, Lanell #72142, however, she was not sincere or helpful in anyway shape or form. When we asked a question to see if we will miss the connecting flight and if there were any alternatives, she says "I am not sure, not my department, talk to the flight attendants and gate attendants, I don't want to say anything because if my information is wrong you will blame me." This is definitely not an answer that a customer service representative should be giving. She provided no empathy, sympathy and no apologies. We reached MYR and missed our connecting flight to LGA as it left early. The customer service agent blamed the weather again not offering any sympathy or apologies. The customer service agent again blamed us instead. There were 10+ of us who had this connecting flight. Now the next flight is at 2:09 pm and getting back to LGA at 3:59 pm. That will be approximately 24 hours spent in the air/TSA lines/airport. We were able to get a $100 credit from Customer Service Manager, Onecia. Credit #29724614744200001 and #29724597880100001, however, I feel that this is inadequate to the service or the lack of services we have received from Spirit customer service agents, flights, and flight attendants. We were completely ignored and shuffled around and now have been stuck in various locations due to no fault of our own. This is completely unacceptable as we have been loyal Spirit Customers for years now. We just wanted to get home. I am asking for a full credit of $277.98 (base flight price) + $114.40 (carry on bag fees) = $392.38 for the inconvenience and irritation that was caused through this whole endeavor. This experience to totally against your core values of Safety (Fights in Line), Service (Lanell), Savvy (Lanell), and Style (Entire Process). I ask for your consideration when making your decision. We took our family of 8 from chicago ohare airport to myrtle beach, great trip. However, when boarding to go home we were stopped by a white woman checking all of our bags and asked to put them in the size check. We were targeted because she wasn't scared to ask us being the same race. She humiliated us, held up the line, and $267 later we finally got on. Had I known it was going to be a problem because my wheels didn't fit I would have paid for it ahead of time for half the price. My first trip on Spirit was from Myrtle Beach to Hartford Ct. All passengers were on board so we took off early from Myrtle Beach and arrived in Hartford 30 minutes early. Great crew and easy boarding. It is a no frills airline so they exceeded my expectations. I am 5'7" so leg room is not great, but for a short flight like mine, it was definitely ok. My flight home from Hartford to Myrtle beach was also fine. We left on time and arrived about 15 minutes early. If Spirit goes where I am going, it will be my airline of choice. read more

So i am sitting in myrtle beach airport when i should had been home yesterday. Yesterday they delayed my flight i catch a uner to the airport to only find out my flight was canceled and no other flights out until Thursday and it was Monday. They offered me half my purchase price back knowing Damn well a flight out same day would cost triple that. I end up havent to get a hotel$125, spending $260 one way, $30 more for my car neing parked another day and $20 in uber's. So Damn near $500 unexpected money spent because of these Asses. I fond it real funny while looking for a flight i seen one flying out with spirit for $385 so they pretty much lied. I am a single father with my daughter now living in a different state... when I first moved, my heart started breaking thinking "this is gonna be tough".... well nothing has been tough since dealing with spirit. Spirit airlines has an option that made her school vacations spectacular! They have "unaccompanied minor" options that are fantastic! My daughter has had some of the best memories made during her childhood , because you guys are so affordable and easy to deal with. Staff is friendly but the airline nickels and dimes you for every little thing. You can't even choose your seat without paying extra, it's absurd. If you want to pick the exit row you're paying $20 or more, even if you're a frequent flyer or have their credit card.
